Why do Europeans speak English with an American accent instead of British accent?
Why do Europeans speak English with an American accent instead of British accent?
Only RANDSTAD faggots do that, though.
I don't
Because you made english relevant so it's reasonable to speak it with your accent.
Because you won WW2 and unlike the other victors, you didn't take that much of a nosedive. Hence your cultural hegemony.
Actually it's more like Americans speak with a more Germanic accent.
cuck desu
explain
How is that cuck, Mehmet?
I live in southern germany, so i am more likely to, because you occupied it
Because of movies, tv and music.
It's easier to pronounce tbqh
If that's the case, then why do schools teach European Spanish and not Mexican/Latin American Spanish?
Most europeans I've heard speak with an english accent, specially the non english natives.
>this kills the britbong
cuz we were invaded by the us not the brits
Because USA is more relevant than the UK
Because britbong english is disgusting.
Because even though we are taught British english all the relevant english media is made by Americans
Some don't
I've heard Swedes using a british accent before
If anything most yuros speak english with our local accents.
speaking or trying to speak with brittish accent if you are not one is pretenius as fuck
Kek,for the same reason
Our study books are in British English, but most media is in American English. So that's what you get.
"i have to go to work"
how do you pronounce those T's? whether you use british or american english relies on that answer, i think
Hypothesis I from my ass:
>Euros that learned from school generally use British
>Euros that learned from media generally use American
your ass seems logical enough
>yuros saying "colour" instead of color
REEEEEEEEe
Because it's easier to understand.
In fact, the moment I stop thinking about it I start talking ala tony montana or some gangsta nigga. I'm afraid if I ever go to the states I'll end beat to death for dropping the n word three times per sentence
They don't, necessarily.
Usually it's more a German accent or Russian accent or whatever. Only when they get very proficient they will gain a unique "English" accent that is noticeable.
Colour me sourprised.
JAPANESE ACCENT
Because LA/NYC drive English language media content. UK actors have to be able to pass as LA/NYC natives to further their careers. The Economist even said - "The world stopped speaking English long ago, the world speaks America." I would say the world speaks Angeleno or Manahttan.
>UK actors have to be able to pass as LA/NYC natives to further their careers.
british boker face
Dubsguy is ours now
The world does not speak Manhattan.
Because it's easier
next question
I've been consuming MUCH more American media than British ones, go figure.
No, it speaks Los Angeles.
The US is the largest English-speaking country in the world. Why would anyone choose the accent of a small, irrelevant island instead of the variety that is spoken in the English-speaking country that people actually know about?
American media is also pretty ubiquitous throughout the world. It is even more dominant than the local media in most countries. Especially here in Europe.
>a small, irrelevant island
Christian Bale flicks between his native English and American accent depending on the interview. Like many British actors, he's so used to playing American characters that you can't blame him. I'd like to see the return of the transatlantic accent, like England's brave Cary Grant had.
bale is british?
wow
The UK is hardly irrelevant now is it.
Only compared to the US. You're still among the top three most relevant countries in Europe. And definitely among the top ten in the world.
The British are just that good at acting.
I-I still think you're great, dad
Compared to the US, China, Japan, Germany and Russia you're fairly irrelevant.
But you are in the second tier of relevant countries. In the same tier as Korea and Canada. And a tier above France and Poland.
magnificent way to insult several nations at once
transatlantic is the best english accent
because american english is simplified english for foreigners
kek
also
>Poland
>France tier
Do me a favour and change that behaviour. It's not honourable. There is no need for you to put on such an armour.
You are a nigger Spaniard.
You'll be fine.
My High School taught Mexican Spanish.
Unfortunately it seems such memery is the topic du jour on this forum.
Really sucks the oie de vivre out of me.
*joie
I'm just stating my opinion. It's not meant as an insult. It's just the way I perceive the relevance of countries based on cultural exports, economy and military power.
American media and the fact it is more monotonous and easy to learn
British popular culture is much more prevalent than German, China and Russian.
>the oie de vivre
It was at one point, yes. But I think the Chinese have pretty much overtaken you in that regard. This past year I can name at least three good Chinese movies that were released in cinemas here. And only one British one.
And those three countries are a lot stronger in terms of economy (China and Germany) and military power (China and Russia), that they just rank a tier above you.
>But I think the Chinese have pretty much overtaken you in that regard.
Nah.
Actually, you might be right. But you need to make more good movies.
You probably think many British films that are released are American, and popular culture isn't restricted to just movies.
>he doesn't worship the goose of life
depends on where you learn it from.
if it's mostly school / higher education, it's more british
if it's mostly MTV / video games / other mass media, it's most likely american
da fuck did you say bout me, bitch ass nigga?
see? that's the first thing that pops in my head
This
mexican spanish is shit tier
in california the crappy colleges have mexican teachers
i went to so so uc san diego and the faculty was all white females from south america
i think he means differences in spelling and pronunciation more than an actual accent
>white females from south america
?????
yes like this colombiana
strange world
Do the French hate us the most? It always seems like it on Sup Forums and it makes me sad I love the French...Paris is a gross city though
> You probably think many British films that are released are American
No. I think movies that are produced by American studios are American, and movies produced by British studios are British.
> popular culture isn't restricted to just movies
You've already won the argument. It doesn't matter. I mostly just listen to podcasts, surf the internet and watch movies and tv-shows. Most of them tend to be American. But the UK probably is the second largest exporter of cultural products after the US.
>a small, irrelevant island
Britbong English sounds pretentious as fuck when spoken by anyone outside the UK, and only fedora neckbeards try to mimic it.
That said, we are taught UK grammar, because US is objectively wrong.
because if you speak south american spanish you sound like a third wolder
but the english taught in Spain is British English, at least the vocabulary and spelling. But if speaking basic English is difficult for the average Spaniard, speaking with an English accent is nearly impossible
Compared to the US, yes.
There are 318 million Americans.
There 64 million people in the UK. (And from my experiences with the British service industry, I'm willing to bet that a big chunk of those people have an atrocious foreign accent or don't speak English at all.)
You'd need to have a special interest in the UK to try to imitate their accent. In today's world, the American accent is the default.
do you guys think soe will grow her hair back?
>That said, we are taught UK grammar, because US is objectively wrong.
No, we aren't. And please give an example of how American grammar is "objectively wrong". The only difference I can think of on the spot is that the British treat some singulars as if they were a plurals. Like... "The government are doing something." instead of the American "The government is doing something."
And in all honesty, I think the American form is a lot more logical.
Unless they are immigrating to the US, I prefer foreigners to speak English with a British accent. Especially Indians. But I fear a future where continental Europeans will speak English with an Indian accent.
What a horrifying thought.
Germany is in no way more culturally dominant than the UK. Apart from Berlin techno they haven't had a relevant musician since fucking Krafwerk.
Also, the Bundeswehr is a fucking joke
Brits are correct about some things, incorrect about other things. They have a lot of trouble with pluralization.
USA
>Math is fun.
UK
>Maths is fun.
No one.
>Math are fun.
No one.
>Maths are fun.
US slang and colloquialisms are pretty bad though. Americans say, "I care less," when they don't care about something. That's wrong, they should say, "I couldn't care less." I'd criticize UK slang and colloquialisms too, but it's mostly incomprehensible chav-speak to me. May as well be a foreign language.
>Americans say, "I care less,"
*they say, "I could care less"
UK slang and colloquialisms is not mostly chav-speak. Chavs make up a small percentage of the population.
This.
one thing I've noticed is that even the least comprehensible American accents are pretty easy to understand. Even that Appalachian accent is understandable
Jeg gikk på den skolen i Oslo med hoyest karakterkrav for å komme inn.
Yeah, yanks open their mouths more, so it's clearer, that's why.
Hahaha, helt sikkert, Asbjǿrnsen.
Because the English accent is even more nonsensical than the American standard pronounciation.
For instance where Americans actually say "matter" like it is written many English would say "ma-uh" as if there were no "t" in there which is pretty retarded.
she's trash anyway
Because American is the international language, not English, i.e. posh faggot gay language
