GTX 1070 owners answer me this.

1080p@144Hz
or
1440p@60Hz(75 OC)

Which is superior overall?

1440p@~112HZ with tripple A games
1070's have more grunt than you think

>1080p
>2017

768p @ 512Hz

You won't be able to maintain the required framerate in either unless you only play assfaggots, cs go and overmeme.

GTX1080 Tri-SLI

3840x2160 @ 144hz

H-hey..!

>2012+5
>60FPS

Gtx1080 owner here
1440p 144hz

Go 4K
Seriously
1440p was a mistake
It's marginally better looking than 1080p with 1/2 the fps.
Most AAA titles run 70fps.
Making the 144hz meaningless

...

I imagine if I ever wanted to go at a higher resolution for gaming it'd be 1440p.
Only retards do 4k

WOW. rude

I have a 1070 with a 1440p 144 hz and it's great. 1080p is shit for a 1070

of course not every game gets that high frames but anything over 60 is good. I get 90 or 100 on a lot of games. And the frames are shorter so the exact timing doesn't matter as much

>It's marginally better looking than 1080p with 1/2 the fps.

so go even more marginally better looking at 1/4 the fps? lmao

>not 1440p 144hz gsync

1440p is almost twice as much pixels as 1080p. How is that "marginally"? The jump from 1080p to 1440p is similar to 1440p to 4k. It comes down to what size monitor you want, really. 1440p at 25-27" is perfect. 4k at 27" isn't worth it. I would only use 4k at at least 32". 144hz is great. 60hz is just shit no matter what resolution.

Get a fucking 1080p@144hz monitor and see how you like it.

Get a 1440p@60hz monitor afterwards.

Experiment and see which you like better for your own personal needs.

look dickbag - when you're playing video games you'll notice the 100FPS much more than muh pixels

I'd suggesting buying the first, and renting the second one.

Actually going from 1440p to 1080p, and then doubling the fps, you get MUCH more pixels per second

1080p@144Hz is superior for video games on a GTX1070.

I'd only go to 1440p on a GTX1080.

I paired my 1070 with a 1440p 144hz monitor. It runs slighly older games at 1440p 144fps, and almost everything new at 1440p 60fps. I purposefully bough a monitor a bit above what my gpu could power so that I don't need to upgrade my monitor when I upgrade my gpu next.

smartest post in this shit thread

>renting a monitor
What?

>1080p-->1440p
75% improvement
>1440p--> 4k
over 200% improvement
>1080p-->4k
400% improvement

You do realize 4k is 2160p, right?

1440p at 144 Hz!
I like it!

>I purposefully bough a monitor a bit above what my gpu could power so that I don't need to upgrade my monitor when I upgrade my gpu next.
same, but I got a 4k60hz display. I can play pretty much everything 2014 or earlier at 4k on my 980ti but everything is 1440p

luckily I got a 24" monitor so the pixel density is so high I don't really see an issue with blurry pixels at non-native resolutions

yes and what I said is still true and you're still retarded
>he doesn't know that monitors are rectangles

>alienware

Don't start this crap again. This is a resolution and refresh rate thread, nothing more.

Why are you still alive?

1440 to 2160 is not a 200% difference. I'd ask any schools you went to for a refund if you paid for lessons. 1080 to 2160 is a 200% difference.

As long as you enjoy it

>he STILL doesn't know how rectangles work

>he fell for the ayylmaoware meme

It's not a meme, it's a nice little system.
Let glorious hacker code show you the way

1920x1080 = 2,073,600 pixels
2560x1440 = 3,686,400 pixels
3840x2160 = 8,294,400 pixels

WEW LAD

4K 60hz

u can easily maintain 144fps in 1080p with a 1070 though

also 1440p if you're smart about tweaking your shit

Are you copy/pasting this into every thread that even remotely relates to it. Serious question

1440p 75hz gsync.

>225% difference from 1440p and 1080p

au.pcpartpicker.com/list/N8tJqk

This. Some people never consider the fact that they may not even need a 144hz. Many like myself only mainly play story driven games. Either AAA like Witcher 3, which would need a 1080 to pass 80 fps to benefit, or smaller indie games like Transistor or Paper Please which would see no benefit running at 144fps.

Not going pay all that extra cash for 144hz when the only competitive game I play is Rocket League casually.

>I'm a faggot

Nobody cares.

1080p at 60 nets you the longest possible life cycle for your card.

that sucks

...

>Many like myself only mainly play story driven games
lmao

only valid response itt

you are an idiot

>1080p@144Hz
>or
>1440p@60Hz(75 OC)

Just go 1440p@144Hz so you don't have to buy a new monitor when you upgrade your GPU in a year or 2.

I played CSGO, League, OW, etc. They all get boring and tedious after a few hours.

>Just go 1440p@144Hz

But if you want IPS, you going to have to drop at least $500.

Not an argument

1440p looks a tiny bit better, but it's not even that noticeable.
I would compare it to going from 900p to 1080p

You would think 75% ish more pixels would look far better, but it doesn't.

That's because most multiplayer games are shit.
If you're playing a game for it's story and not it's gameplay that's just embarrassing.

>year or 2

by then you'll be going into 4K territory easily

the choice basically stems down to whether OP prefers framerate or resolution

personally there's absolutely nothing wrong with 1440p@60Hz+IPS for general video game use if you're not a Competitive MLG MLP fan

Sacrificing 100+ FPS for image quality you'll barely notice is retarded.

Just sayin', once you regularly play vidya above 100+fps, you'll never go back to 60.

Witcher 3 is an exception, most brand new AAA games run at near 90fps at 1440p in my 1070 on high/max settings
I know doom averages 100-120 on ultra, Dirt Rally is 120+ Forza is 80, Fallout 4 is 90-100
And each one is damn worth it

>Falling for the 144Hz meme

No that's from 1440p to 2160p. You're literally blind

But if youdon't????
?????????
Is that a thing??

No pulled up my trusty windows 10 calculator and typed it myself

I hope it's pasta there's nothing more satisfying on Sup Forums than a retard being publicly shamed

>1440 to 2160 is not a 200% difference, 1080 to 2160 is

You're completely unable to follow a conversation, even when one of the posters is a name fag. Damn dude you're retarded.

Which setting should I lower when playing modern game on 1070s?

>If you're playing a game for it's story and not it's gameplay

Gameplay is always first. Just finished by by flame. People everywhere hated nearly everything about it. True, the story wasn't great, but the gameplay was great for me. Going through Technomancer now, same deal.

The ones that impact performance the most and affect quality the least

>Just finished Bound by Flame

It doesn't matter in my opinion, you don't have to go below high and you don't have to lower more than a few settings.
Just lower a few settings you're fine with lowering, things like texturing (usually a VRAM thing), draw distance and anti ailiasing tend to affect GPU performance by a lot

>1080p@144Hz

this

1440p is a shitty meme.

144Hz is fucking tits, it will feel like your cursor is slathered in lube

Lowering or turning off settings like AO for 1440p @ 120hz with ulmb.
Looks better than 165hz with Gsync on my monitor

Yeah, on medium-high settings and no AA, shill.

you are an mad

Pixio 1440p 144hz IPS freesync display or 4k 60hz IPS freesync, then upgrade to Vega, nvidia has no competing G-sync displays

Yet AMD has nothing that will play a single game at 1440p 144fps

>buying Freesync for an nVidia card
>Vega
>upgrade

shill harder

G-sync was literally on both of those display types first

And you need a Titan xp to run that or 4k what's your point?

Its like 600 for a 27" 1440p 144hz IPS Gsync display, and it was $800 for 4k gsync last I checked

He wasnt supposed to buy an nvidia card in the first place due to the increased monitor prices

I would take the 1440p, but not overclock its refresh rate. OCing refresh rates, at least in my experience, generally lead to image quality reduction.

What are you playing?

If fps's or platformers then get 144Hz, else the 60Hz should be fine.

Not a single person proved they owned a 1070
That's a 1080 you fucking retard.

1080p to 2160p is a 400% increase user

>1440 to 2160 is not a 200% difference
are you actually fucking stupid?

Get a 1440p@100-144Hz.

My 1070 is paired with an i7-7700K, and I can run modern games on High at over 100FPS fine. I can actually hit the 140 mark on older games from around 2012.

Newer games such as?

If you've never experienced 1440p, it's not a big deal. You'll barely noticed the difference between that and 1080p when you're playing a game. The frame jump from 60 to 100+ is MUCH more noticeable in single player and multiplayer games.

Also if you just run a 1070@1080p, you're elongating the card's life, as you won't have to overclock at all.

>Which is superior overall?
What are you going to be doing with it? Shooters and fast paced gameplay or watching movies in 100+ fps looks fantastic. Although 1440p is pretty scenic looking, but it's not an even step from 1080 to 2160 so it's usually easier to find 1920•1080p or 3840•2160p quality videos/games/wall papers. That's not to say 1440 is a waste, it's just less memed than 4k is.

Go for the 144hz, 1080p in "du current yeer" is just a joke since 4k is available but can't do 60+hz well and anons want to justify paying for 4k but running shit below 60fps.

you also won't have to blow your load on a monitor as 1080p's with gsync are much cheaper

>the next prime number after 2011
>60Hz

1440p@60.

Hz dick measuring is a meme. Don't fall for it

What games do you play

Word for word, number for number in other threads. hmm

It's really not a meme if you play fast paced games, there's a very noticeable difference.

You cannot be serious

Cards running 150fps+ overheat and spaz out
Cards running ultra at 60fps run far cooler and quieter
