Petabyte hdd when?

how is your disk space?

12 TB of which about 100 gb are still free + a bunch of 3+1 tb drives that i have flying around that i canĀ“t be bothered to count and they are full

Not for another decade or so, friend. A petabye is an unimaginable amount of storage.

Breddy gud. Why do you need a petabyte?

Isn't a petabyte just 1000TB? I'm finding it easier and easier to fill 1TB fast. I'd like to get into PB just so I can stop buying disks.

Probably not ever for spinning drives, but I can see the possibility happening with solid state memory maybe 3D Xpoint within a decade maybe not for retail, but having the ability to do so in a 3.5in form.

Never.
The areal density is already hitting a wall with HDDs and has fallen behind SSD.
Sure new tech is coming out which will allow for more stuff being stored on a HDD, but there's really not that much to be done when they move above 1Tbpsi, which is considered to be somewhat of a limit for the spinning medium.
New materials might make it possible, but that's a big if.
SSDs can basically just keep on slapping more and more layers to increase the storage size.

2.5TB local and 18TB on the cloud

ITT we're Arch users

...

What do you people even do with all that space? Are you ever going to look at more than 10% of whatever it is you're storing?

>Are you ever going to look at more than 10% of whatever it is you're storing?
I have watched easily 80% of the media i have stored.

If I need more space, it's not like I couldnt delete some of the things I really didn't like that much.

Backup.

A few sites I use occasionally fall off the net. I back'em up using wget. That takes a few GB.

struggling to find a use for what i've got

don't watch anime or movies, i delete tv series and documentaries when i'm done. the majority here is just music.

jesus u weeb

used to think like this until I got a second monitor, now my pc is downloading stuff and playing media 24/7

What do you need even storage for?

i remember when i had anime sickness. i even realized storing things i've already watched just because i felt emotionally attached to the series or the characters was dumb, but i did it anyway.

i hope you find peace someday.

do you even 4k content

That's called "liking something and thinking you might watch it again"

The real sickness is being too much of an ADHD fuck to rewatch something you liked

stopped hoarding data a long time ago, this is more than enough

btw what's the best intro in this matter ? how can i share the whole partition without passwords on win10 on the serving machine ? had to share just one folder and put the shit inside.

>stopped hoarding data a long time ago
>stopped hoarding data before it was cheap and easy
kek

when i stopped hoarding you didn't need much space, altho i never did it like you guys

>go on an anime website
>complain people watch anime

l e l

>"hoarding"

lol. I hope your internet never goes out for any period of time, cutrting you off from the streaming jew.

The petabyte hdd won't happen (even with HAMR it's impossible). The petabyte ssd will happen around 2025.

well,i can alway read a book, you know

thankfully i've got ~300GB+ of text books, fantasy, scifi, reference material, etc on my harddrives on top of my vast music/movie/TV/anime collections.

cool

Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
C:/cygwin64 976759804 892656940 84102864 92% /
E: 976656380 801344564 175311816 83% /cygdrive/e

you mean you don't do anything productive?

how did you jump to that conclusion?

Miss u spiral xoxo

Is that vista

yes

My 4TB hard drive was a mistake.

So was a GB a long time ago to the average consumer. It'll happen but yeah probably not for another decade

I have a solution to your problem: Don't delete anything.

What the hell are you guys storing on your computers if you need more than 1 TB of space?

>movies
>games
>music
>tv shows
>owncloud
>podcasts
>legacy installers/torrents that can't be found online any more
>acting as offsite storage for family backups
And a few staples for threads like this:
>hurr just stream everything
there's some shit that isn't available anymore
>hurr I personally have no use for something, therefore nobody does
fuck off retard, that's not how shit works

inb4 'you thought it was just bait, but it was me, Dio!'

More virtual machines and their mirrors than you can shake your dick at.
I have four 6TB hard drives keeping anywhere between 6-12 different VM images and redundant copies of each from a different timestamp in case I fucked a configuration up.

For what purpose?

pci e ssds have a fucktonne of room for fuckhuge storage space

...

>look at the faggot who doesn't use VMs
>look at him and laugh

app developing and test beds
Unlike most numale faggots, I actually test my shit on XP, Vista, and 7.

God I hate Windows so much.

>anime website
>not Botswanan hut building forum
Fuck off

Its like you guys dont even torrent.

I do tho

Holy shit you are almost literally me. That's 12TB usable in a 16TB total raid with a bunch of 2/3TB disks around. I'm also down to 100GB free though so I'm thinking of building a proper server with around 40TB storage for a starting point, would like to go higher though.

political memes and pictures for the desktop/speccy threads

Average 14GB per movie, 30GB for a TV season pack (cos I'm poor and can't afford 1080p TV). Storage is not as much as you think it is.

...

>so many 1TB disks and they're not even raided
dear god why

>imblying the disks you're seeing aren't just vmdks stored on a 20tb datastore

what the hell are you people storing what the fuck

Not brilliant.

Movies and TV basically. Well that's what takes up 90% of it.

same with my ~18TB
Movies, TV, anime.

you

...

do you want to be a little girl?

The real sickness is anime.

No, why?

It's not like I have 7TB of moe or some shit.

Once you've seen enough you eventually stop hoarding and only watch currently airing shows.

maybe for you, people are allowed to lead different lives believe it or not.

>only watch currently airing shows
If you think you've already seen all of the good old stuff, you're wrong.

HD porn

>he didn't just buy 100 10TB enterprise HDDs from Seagate
>he doesn't have at least 1 petabyte of storage

I think there is a very slim chance you could recommend anything enjoyable that I haven't seen or dropped.

Is ur name Japanese? You are cool

>860tb

You won't know what you'll end up liking until you've watched it.
That's why I just pick a genre, filter on production date ascending and watch every series I can find a release for.

that depends on how you define enjoyable.
personally, I enjoyed akane-iro, nanako, shukufuku, and ore no imouto, but can't say the same for you.

That's basically what I did, it took me around 15 years watching anime 5+ hours a day.

at this point I'd be willing to bet a solid 1/4 of those you've melded with others in your mind and couldn't accurately give me a synopsis of if your life depended on it.

I keep everything I watch and rewatch my favorites occasionally.

If you never rewatch ANYTHING you've likely missed something from several animes as I know of a good few that I missed bits of that I picked up on in the 2nd or 3rd watching.

You fucking hoarding freaks

>he doesnt want a high quality home media center

What is the current largest storage space available to an average consumer

I know Sony made a tape reel that holds like 600tb but that's not really consumer grade

Akane
Droooooooped.
Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!
Was great I enjoyed it.
Ore no Imouto.
Great enjoyed it.

8 and 10TB hard drives can be had for under $500.

...

Because a long time ago, young one, 1TB drives were the largest you could buy.

You are 100% right, I have to look up most shit to even remember if I have watched it.

Why'd you need that many at the time before 2TB but needed none after though. Doesn't make sense.

Also I have rewatched a handfull of shows but I generally don't keep them around I just download them if I feel like rewatching.

But is that the most available inside any single package?

Surely there must be more than 10

At this point it's fairly cheap to keep a large collection, I paid less than $300 for 8TB.

>1TB ssd
>2x 4TB hdd
>2x 1TB external hdd

So I guess somewhere around 12 TB total if I could smaller drives and such that are purely for occasional backup.

I've had a few drives that I was doing that with but when they failed I never bothered to grab the shows again and just stopped caring because usually anything worth rewatching is seeded.

s-shut up, I need it for muh YouTube video production to go along with my film studio and 86 employees.

8TB drives are pretty cheap now. I regret having bought a bunch of 4TB drives to make a raid. Should have just waited. I am not even using 8TB yet. If I had a petabyte, I wouldn't know what to do with it.

I would make it a challenge to fill it

...

Samsung sells a 15TB SSD for enterprise customers. ~$10,000 price tag.

Seagate has a 60TB SSD announced and Toshiba was rocking a ~100TB SSD a few months back at a show.

These are all well beyond consumer use though.

Largest consumer hard drive is 4TB SSD and 10TB HDD.

Just out of curiosity what are you following this season?

Masamune-kun no Revenge
Fuuka
Spiritpact
Seiren
Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon
Trickster - backlogged looked interesting enough not to delete

Anything not listed I dropped already.

Not him, but I haven't followed anything for 3 seasons, anime has gone to shit.

Previous few seasons had literally nothing for people that preferred harem shit unless GATE and Overlord counts.
