The Serbs won and we lost. They have succeeded in permanently separating and alienating this part of the Bulgarian nation from its historical and blood origins.
It was quite clever, really. Rather than try to assimilate them, they used the strong regional identity to their advantage and elevated it to a national one.
Anyway, as both Bulgaria and Macedonia are dying , it does not even matter anymore.

ottomans spoke a heavily persian influenced turkish in the palace, but that is just the royalty, we see similar patterns in rome as well
also there is also a direct line of state heritage coming from gokturks all the way in central asia
greeks on the other hand do not even have anything close to older greek culture today, there is no connection between the hellenistic greece and the greece of today
