reactos.org/ It's not linux, it's a M$ open source clone:
"The main goal of the ReactOS project is to provide an operating system which is binary compatible with Windows ... such that people accustomed to the familiar user interface of Windows would find using ReactOS straightforward. The ultimate goal of ReactOS is to allow you to remove Windows and install ReactOS without the end user noticing the change."
Yeah, as long as the API calls it's trying to run have been properly reimplemented.
Nolan Collins
Lol okay m8
Grayson Sanders
Oh, well that's pretty neat then.
Oliver Anderson
It's insanely nice for finding info on undocumented winapi calls, a lot of them have been reversed in reactos now
Xavier Reed
they may make it vista/7 level in 10 years, reinventing the wheel
still better than 8/10
Jacob Reyes
this, right now it's a good research project
if you want to know about windows internals, reactos has the most information publicly available
for practical use, wine can run more windows software
Levi Torres
I tried it in a VM and couldn't get it to run shit. However, the O's did appear to be stable and the UI was basically a 1-1 clone of Windows 2000. Down to the processes and system files.
I was genuinely impressed.
Zachary Cooper
they just released 0.4.4. They are starting to add lots of functionality in these mini-releases.
John Perez
FOSS BSOD served by russian haxorz.
Brandon Morales
was supposed to be 2010, but ran into some bugs at the last second.
Hunter Sanchez
Do windows drivers work? I'm actually interested in seeing if steam can run and if it'll work with drivers.
Alexander Reed
So no?
Joseph Butler
>an even shittier version of WINE and playonlinux installed by default
Bentley Anderson
It properly loads and executes PE files, the kernel might not have every API CA you want to make though.
Isaac Ortiz
API call***
Hunter Rogers
yeah. Also skyrim
Chase Nelson
Shit, that's cool. I might give it a try.
Also, are windows viruses also compatible? What about antivirus?
Camden Walker
>Also, are windows viruses also compatible? Kinda, but i heard they want to try a different security layout from windows. reactos.org/wiki/Security >What about antivirus? Dont see why not.
Noah Ortiz
What? It's true.
Landon Roberts
druaga has a video trying to install it on an old machine, failed pretty horribly. Big time buggy
Lucas Hall
He probable took an ISO from the front page, but in fact those are not being updated much. Should've used nightlies.
Liam Martin
does it have any systemd equivalent to rape my privacy?
Juan King
Will it run video games? Can it use vender-supplied windows drivers?
Parker Myers
Maybe
Logan Powell
It can run and use anything made for normal windows
Robert Green
> tfw Windows will be deprecated in your lifetime
feels good
Mason Parker
So Windows without the botnet?
That already sounds much better than any gahnoo+loonix distro out there
Connor Cox
It should die and take Windows with it.
Kevin Barnes
Yeah, but the problem is, it doesn't really work. At all.
Jaxon Mitchell
Remove yourself from Sup Forums. In fact, remove yourself from this universe.
Gavin Nelson
does it offer better privacy in any way?
Adrian Lopez
Not really, but it's not botnet. See
Sebastian Diaz
still sounds better than win10 anyways
Ayden Richardson
A lot of the core apicalls are implemented, a lot of stuff actually does work
William Foster
The only problem Reactos has is common among all opensource stuff. Not enough money.
No money/donations -> no dedicated developers No dedicated devs -> buggy/outdated/slow project buggy/outdated/slow project -> no users no users -> no money/donations
Andrew Hughes
What doesn't work?
James Edwards
Good enough for office and games pre 2010 (or maybe 2012 on intel igpu) way better than windows 10 botnet i guess
