Miserable and poor the English language is

How, tell me, how do you enjoy reading literature written in reportedly the most primitive European language alive, which is of course English. Doesn't its rigidity piss you off while reading? You don't even have as much freedom in terms of word order as we have in Ukrainian or Russian. No adjective diminutives, the language itself is very unprecise and dependent on a context. No proper single rules for writing.

did you get someone to write this for you? I refuse to believe someone with such a grasp on the language would call it primitive and rigid, especially compared to slavic languages

t. a typical Slavic language where the use of the passive tense is considered bad form no matter what

But English is so nice for songs
>youtube.com/watch?v=K9U1r38di-8

>She looks as if she's blowing a kiss at me
>And suddenly the sky is a scissor

What's going on in here?

>the language itself is very unprecise

Oh my God, where did this Afro-British gentleman get this knife from?!

>his language has no dual or genders
>he doesn't even know what declinations are

>his language is needlessly convoluted
>he assigns genders to inanimate objects

>he doesn't even have his own language

*declensions
Even cavemen knew what declinations are :^)

>he assigns genders to inanimate objects

This to be honest. Why did this happen?

>no one speaks his language outside of his country

If you learned a bit about etymology when studying for your citizenship test, you would know that declension and declination mean the same thing.

Slovenes are not a made up meme ethnicity speaking a second-hand language that would only exist inside a made up meme country. Like "Australians".

literally never heard of slovenia before I came here

muh minorities and muh Argentinian exiles tho

pic related, where Slovenian is spoken natively (not including closely related dialects in NW Croatia).

Penal colonies are not exactly known for first rate education.

>Ukrainian

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

WHAT DOES RUSSIAN WHEN HE WANTS TO KILL BY LAUGHING?
HE READS LOUD UKRAINIAN MANUALS!!

Just get beheaded, asshole!

must be embarrassing having a lower average IQ than a penal colony then

WHAT DOES RUSSIAN TO GET RID DEPRESSIONS?
HE DRINKS BIT OF VODKA AND READS RUSSIAN LITERATURE TRANSLATED INTO UKRAINIAN!

HOW DOES RUSSIAN READ UKRAINIAN WARNING SIGNS?!

russian: "warning: dont put our head out of window"
ukrainian:"thinking: dont show your melon out of hole".

BWAHAHAHAHAHA.. god fucking shit..

>no nasals

English is great in that it's simple to learn and difficult to master.

>muh word order
You can basically put the words you want in any order and a native speaker will know what you want. It might not be correct like in Russian, but people will understand you. And as for actually getting it right, native speakers struggle with that shit, so how the fuck are non-natives meant to understand its complexities?

If I ever want to go to Germany I had best learn Arabic instead.

cat ate mouse
mouse ate cat

two different sentences in English

kot je mysz
mysz je kot

the same sentence in polish

English is a meme language desu

australian born chinese are the laziest, entitled dumb cunts I've ever met, and I doubt their parents are bothering to take IQ tests

Chinese here are old people investing in property or their children who deal drugs

or chinese food shop owners or whatever

>I had best learn Arabic instead.

sure. have fun. you will need it in the refugee detention center.

youtu.be/DzXzHKktX9A

Is that a bad thing or a good thing?

OP mentioned this with context dependency, but you're going to get a lot of weird looks and questioning about a mouse that managed to eat a cat.

There are languages I like better, but I don't think English is a meme. Maybe that's just because it's my native language and I don't want that to be a waste, but still.

are you retarded
retarded you are

English is more rigid in structure because word placement serves the same role as cases in languages using advanced declension

it's mindless to say that "hurr English has free word order as well" because it doesn't

doesn't mean that English is inferior, it simply utilises different strategies

Ever thought about learning Scottish Gaelic?

I have a very poor grasp on the English language despite it being my first desu

>doesn't mean that English is inferior
Yes it does.

i think its fun part in english.

I like learning languages because it opens opportunities to talk to people, and as a show of respect towards people of other countries - it's not fair to just expect everyone to learn English, even if it is what will happen.

Almost everyone who speaks Gaelic speaks English anyway, and there's not too many free resources out there for learning it regardless.

French is the best /lit/ language pêh

most slavic languages lack advanced compounding and articles (very common in English)

does this mean slavic languages are inferior?

dutch is the pretties language to listen to oetz

I don't know what that first thing means but I use articles every day. Perhaps it's your language that's inferior, m90.

i learn languages. but i find its ironic that when in the east europe and asia people love you for that. in the west europe and america everyone hates your for that. i once was talking russian and french with a friend. then some fagget just exploded next to us in a rant that we have to speak german.

also i measure good language by its simplicity and way when children can freely read and understand the "higher language". in german or english no child of 4-6 will be capable to read free the Shakespeare or Schiller. i love russians because on one side they keep their language simple on a word level and on other side they use very complicated system to build textes. if you got the system understanding right you literally can speak sounds with them. Russians can translate literally and very direct Most languages of this world but its so fucking hard to do it other way.

youtu.be/-G7OrdYjQ0k

>articles
>in slovenian

examples desu

aehm..
what does German do for fun and giggles?
he watches dutch royal TV.

youtu.be/__pll7gNU0Q

>he doesn't know about based Upper Carniolan article "ta"

Example would be "ta rdeč" which means the red one (what we call communists)

>Shakespeare
High school students struggle with that, because it's a completely different English to what is spoken today. And Shakespeare's plays aren't great for their plot, but for the themes they pervade - the understanding of which isn't down to your knowledge of the language, although obviously knowing the language better will help you there.

Russian is my favourite language, thanks to what you said, as inI really like the directness. I think most languages have something to appreciate in them though. English is a tough one though, it doesn't have the elegance of French or the presence of German due to being an amalgamation of almost every language that the British Isles were exposed to over the millennia. But maybe that is something to appreciate in itself.

looks exactly like a common deictic pronoun

also
>dialects

>because it's a completely different English to what is spoken today.

niggaaa.. thats the whole joke i told you.

Look like the Russian этo tb'h

Putin - Huyloo, la-la-la!

shut up and go cleaning polish toilets.

>he speaks the standard version of the language
I bet you use terms like deictic pronoun in everyday conversations, too.
What's that supposed to mean, anyway. All I found was references to the words me and here.

well yeah im a linguist by trade

not a syntactician though

Ta can other mean this (like the Russian eto which you mention) or it can be used as an article; but the usage is archaic in literary Slovene and is today a dialect word.

Because it's not really "assigning genders to inanimate objects" but rather declensions that highlight how a word should be treated and/or modified.
The terms "masculine" and "feminine" are only used as parameters due to the fact that these concepts are easier to grasp, but, for example, when we say that a table ("la mesa") is feminine, in reality, what we are saying is that it should be grammatically treated and modified in the same way as the word for woman ("la mujer") is.
Some african languages have up to 12 grammatical genders and most of these have nothing to do with being a man or being a woman.

you are brainwashed, polish people support Ukraine SLAVA UKRAINI!!!!SMERT MOSKALAM!!!! And you're a traitor! who is jumping supports EU and those not jumping are in act moskals

We just had this thread like 2 days ago

I feel like English would flow better if it weren't so cucked by French.

*if it weren't so cucked by the Burgers.

fixed that for ya lad ;)

...

I believe that the dependency on word order is what allows english to absorb words and phrase from other languages more easily; and that the dependency on context is what makes native english speaking societies better at war :^)

i have questions for you. i am planning to switch to linguistics. i am hasitating because i am mainly intrested in historical linguistics, not synchronic linguistics. anyway, here are my questions:
1) How related is the field with anthropology in global academy? Would I be able to continue my career as an anthropolog?
2) How common are field research missions, globally? Are they funded? I think that I would be bored if i got stuck in campuses, but would love to trace languages and research them where they are, with their actual speakers.
3) what are the job oppurtunities except the academy? Would a linguist find a job as a translator for example, as easy as those with a translation degree?

>historical linguistics

is your parents millionaires?

not really, but i don't think i will be needing money unless my daddy spends everything before he leaves.
why? is the field dead?

die

It would also be a primitive language with wich you couldn't express any non trivial concept.

French is a terrible language. It's merely a bastardized derivative of Latin, and it would be for the best if it were removed and forgotten.

You will have to delet this post

I'm butthurt now. Now I am butthurt. Delet.

not. but you will earn nothing.

rofl. eat shit.

Norwegian isn't even a language. It's merely a bastardized dialect of Swedish, and it would be for the best if it were removed and forgotten.

French - Alive and spoken, derived from vulgar Latin.
Latin - A dead language

Norwegian - Alive and spoken, derived from Old Norse.
Swedish - Alive and spoken, derived from Old Norse.

You could argue that Swedish and Norwegian are in fact the same language, but you can't say that Norwegian is derived from Swedish since they both derive from a common ancestor: Old Norse.

what do you mean? academicians have a preset wage, at least here

are you telling me that in turkey the state just supports people who are in academia?

what do you even mean? how are the academicians supposed to make money when they have to spend almost all of their days like a teacher? the state obviously gives wage to the academicians working in public universities.
although, i recently learned that turkey has the lowest academician wage in comparison to the country average income. Just so you understand: My monthly income is 1900 liras as a student, and the entry-wage for academicians is about 2000 liras

The funny thing is that Norwegian started out as being a west Norse language (Norwegian, Icelandic, Faroese) but was so influenced by Danish, a east Norse language (Swedish, Danish, Gutnish) that it pretty much jumped from one dialectal group to another.

>muh vikangz
Meme harder. Everyone knows Norway is simply West Sweden.

Oh, it came across sounding like the state just gives people with higher degrees a stipend for living in turkey or something. Which is actually not a bad idea.

They're average IQ is just 2 points lower than yours, and that means literally nothing since these are just estimations

Proper English is somewhat rigid
while its derivatives
American, Austrailian, Canadian, etc
are more free-flowing
subject to the inclusion of slang and cultural references
melting pots, if you will
Example: "Oh shoot, forgot to ask; dj'yall want cokes with yer perogies or malted milks with them quesadillas?

Nice """""dialect""""", pardner.

>Proper English
There is no such thing, there is no authority that has the power to proclaim it, which is why we dont get into stupid situations like the french recently did.

Google Translate doesn't work for Upper Carniolan. But fine, try this translation:

Kaj si mi ravnokar rekel, ti kurba majhna? Jaz ti povem, da sem natreniran gozdar in da sem bil že velikokrat zraven, ko se je pobiral krompir; vsaj 300 gajb ga imam že nabranega. I love your sense of humor.
If you ever come to North Carolina,
I will make sure to alert the proper authorities, but only after we have raced fast cars down dirt roads, drunk moonshine, and eaten fried foods together.

>only after we have raced fast cars down dirt roads
I like that.

>drunk moonshine
I will bring šnops, then.

>eaten fried foods together
Good. Just explain to me what hashbrowns means, first.

Rumors are about that english language are perfect for managing. Recently I heard one great example a guy who finds and repairs malfunction in english actually called "trouble shooter" while in russian its just a called a locksmith, which finds and fixs stuff. They are just combine to diffrent words and boom => new concept ready.

shredded potatos,
which are fried and usually eaten with eggs
but sometimes covered with
all sorts of indigestive things
including cigarette ashes from the cook.
this is why we drink first...

yes, english is very good for technical/practical concepts

Modern Norwegian is based on Danish.
Saying it's based on Swedish is just wrong, but he is onto something when he says it's not a real language.

Your country has a GDP of 9k USD, you're a thirdworlder Russian speaker.

Just do one you glorified Pole, I hope Novorussiya forms.
