Tfw I failed my exam in Databases

>tfw I failed my exam in Databases
Please tell me normalization is just a meme and nothing you need for real

but normalization is easy

Unlike Calculus, normalization of data isn't a meme and you're gonna need it.

Calculus is a foundation of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence.

Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence is a meme

Calculus was easy but I can't understand all this BCNF crap

Yeah everything is in 2nf and there is absolutely no referential integrity
Its a total joke

Even in places you can reasonably change the rules enough to make an id pk field number only its varchar making lookup just fucking awful

You don't need most of this shit, though.
It's foundation in the same sense electronics is the foundation of computing.

Basic shit like "what is gradient", "how to tell that a function is differentiable" is needed, but being able to perform multi-dimensional integration on paper (held me a year because I did numerical errors) is a meme.

And I have a sneaking suspicion that when a user logs in the app reconnects to the db using the users creds. But I'm not sure about that

no you don't.

for small scale normalisation isn't needed. for mid scale+ just get the company to hire a 'database guy' then you don't have to know normalisation.

He means that Calculus is a meme because it has few practical applications for pajeets in contrast to the knowledge of normal forms. Pajeets use sql and ORM intensively.

Ok. Just be ready that you're not going to get a high skilled job with such an attitude.

t. work harder, not smarter

I never said Calculus wasn't easy, it just isn't necessary.

BCNF and 4NF are also easy, only unlike Calculus you can't afford not to understand them. Think of them as a way to organize your database in a manner that removes redundancies, makes it easy to add/remove/update data and also allow for the database software to make optimizations and return your data faster to you.

Just look it up and learn what they are, how they work and why they're needed by yourself. If you can't learn shit by yourself, you might as well just switch majors because that's all you're going to do from now on, no hand-holding from professors/employers.

>normal forms
Someone teach me these

t. Pajeet

Yeah, it's very smart to skip the foundations and to excuse laziness.

Welcome to g poojeet

I don't see you proving basic integer arithmetic from axioms. Oh you're just a hypocrite, nevermind.

>half way though my database design and implementation course, and we havent learned about normalization, only just started on relational algebra

Guys, should I be concerned?

...

>having entity-value-attribute tables

wtf this is terrible

It also guesses the next value in pk sequence and don't auto increment or anything

I don't use the Jacobian matrix either, I'm just a hypocrite, nevermind.

You're the one claiming you need all the foundations to actually employ the methods, not me.

I bet you think that learning C as the first language is a good idea.

No, normalization is just academic bullshit, any real DBA will tell you it's standard practice to have a dozen copies of every column in multiple tables and synchronized between other applications and external sources.

This post started off as sarcasm but on second thought probably reflects the truth.

Turbo retard. Shit like this creates inconsistencies in data.

Its just retarded what you're saying. One guy makes one mistake in spelling some shit in an update and you feel the effects.

I can't begin to tell you how wrong this thinking is.

r u not neurotypical?

Read the second line in his post

I passed databases with a B and I can't remember how to normalize.

Work with databases a lot to.
The wall that flies up in front of my brain in math didn't like normalization either it seems.

I personally think that it's because no one can properly teach it for fucking shit. They always just read a page from the book and then tell you to figure it out because they don't fucking know either.

No I'm just atypical.

No, it's like one of the only three things you learn. You'll get there.

Its like living in filth even when you can work for a day and not live in filth

I think that learn SICP is a good idea.

I don't want to persuade you to learn Calculus. You can just learn Java and make a pajeet-tier career without the knowledge of the foundations and to learn anything on the need-to-know basis.

My point is just that if you want to resemble a white man, not a pajeet, learn Calculus, Differential Eqations, Numerical Analisys, Nonlinear Optimisation and so on.

How the fuck do you even fail that. Maybe you should have studied instead of gaymibg 12 hours a day.

>This post started off as sarcasm but on second thought probably reflects the truth.
Even more so in NoSQL shops.

t. works with NoSQL

I never study anything, i make A's and B's anyway because I actually like computers. I even got a discipline award lol.

Feels weird being a natural talent at something, my class mates are jelly sometimes. I don't know how to handle it.

>tfw information just goes through one ear out another, and through your eyes into the void that is your brainlet

Storing documents is different sometimes you need that kind of flexibility that the rigid row structure of tables can provide but it is rare in ideal situations

I learned all of that math and more in university and have now promptly forgotten almost everything from disuse.

top quality post

I know all that shit, but don't need any.
I have my white man card right there, with all the ticks on it and whiteness score of "Aryan".

It's just that knowing them as something more than "input a matrix and a vector that fulfill requirements, acquire result" is, in vast majority of cases, a meme.

>Please tell me normalization is just a meme and nothing you need for real
No, it isn't. I have database normalization at the moment and trust me, it will become needed if you go in Backend development.

So what's the point?

> failed two of my units for computer science
both were first year units but thats because i was lazy any chance of salvaging my degree?

I am a computer science student and was wondering where I can start with learning maths? Any book lists or something

fucking learn your math if you want to pass university. that's why you went there, right? for a degree

you don't need a degree to work in the field you want

you can quit right now and actually learn what you want to practice

Thats what I was asking user.

Could you please give me a quick crash course on normalization? I have gone through several online guides on the topic but i still dont understand shit

Re-read the guides until you understand.

Normalization is there so that you don't duplicate shit, so that you don't need to synchronize shit and that everything is where it should and there is one right way to do most of everything.

>normalize your database
>queries with joins slow to a crawl

um... BCNFtards??

kek

MongoDB...

say whatever m8 wont change the fact that i
1. have 7.5inch dick that white women enjoy
2. am the database goto guy @ my company
3. have a 120k+/year job with benefits/extras
4. am white
