Do we have MVMe/SATA device comparison between Z270 and X370? And also the memory bandwidth? These days most of us have focused too much on gaming benchmarks, but there's no test to reveal storage and memory performance AFAIK.
Like, Z270 platform has 40 PCIE 3.0 lanes (16 from CPU, 24 from the board) but X370 has just 28 (20 from CPU but only 8 from board) along with few PCIE 2.0 lanes, and no one pays attention to the difference.

It performs slightly worse than a 7700K when you limit the resolution to 640x480. Even a GTX 1080 is bottlenecking the CPU beyond that, and it's one of the most powerful GPUs you can buy.

I can understand trying to remove the GPU bottleneck, but no one actually games at below 640x480.

I'm almost certainly getting one, pretty much thanks to Sup Forums pointing out how it matches the 8-core Intels

I'm waiting a while though, primarily for ITX boards to come out but also to see if the price changes at all
