AMD V INTEL

Would it be stupid to wait for Skylake X?
Honestly Sup Forums the Ryzen R7 launch isn't exactly what most had in mind, after the years of waiting for this meme chip.

That kind of made me think, would it be idiotic to wait for Skylake X ( Intels answer to Ryzen).
I hate Intel's monopoly tactics, but I seriously feel like I don't have any other choices at this point.

Wait for Zen+

If you're a gamer then there is no need to wait. Just buy an i7-7700k and you won't be limited by CPU in gaming for the next 4+ years.

thanks for the hot gaming tip ;~)

>gaming as my only use
Honestly dude gaming is overhated on Sup Forums.
It is pretty comfy, but you can't be serious about choosing a 7700k over an 6850k or 6900k. There are so many benefits with having extra cores, that I don't even know where to start

thanks for the hot gaming tip ;~)

>hurrduurr gaming

Pretty ironic that AMD survived thanks to pandering to the gaming industry.

Many people here suffer from cognitive dissonance.

Far from it, you underage and clueless Sup Forumsermin.

Don't wait at all, just get a fucking Kaby Lake right now

Waiting is for idiots, there is always new shit right around the corner

Are you retarded? The actual benefits of those chips are few and farbetween and they are way slower than the 7700K in so many situations.

They are also ridiculously expensive.

Get a 7700k, it is way better.

I'm not making an epic new meme you retards, take your console wars back to the video games board

>CPUs aren't technology

Gaymers should just wait for the Ryzen 1500 cpus, since the 1700s are too expensive for them.

Why don't you wait for Amd's RAVEN RIDGE? It's releasing at the end of spring.

We don't even know if it will have Vega in it

Makes more sense to include vega since Polaris was a stopgap

Lots of things make sense but it takes time to act upon those things

There are hundreds of cpus on the market. if you just absolutely have to have the one that reviewers are saying is the best of the best, then yes you shouldn't be surprised that it got narrowed down to one option

if you call that a monopoly, the fact that only one of two competing companies makes the better product, than you are kind of dumb OP

That 6 core Broadwell-E was a very popular chip, wonder what happened to it after Ryzen

Intel are the waitfags now.

Nobody should wait, it's fucking stupid

Get the best CPU out right now which is basically anything Kaby Lake

Nobody sane would get a 7700k over a 6900k
Heck, even the 6800k

They would if they wanted 5% IPC and to delid for 600MHz higher overclocks.

Basically idiots.

I'd rather get the r7 1700 with the stock aftermarket-like cooler and overclock it to beat Intel with only losing a few frames in gaems.
Plus Ryzen is more future-proof and evident by consoles such as the PS4/Xbone multi-core is gonna likely to be a thing with PC gaems.
Productivity is pretty great with Ryzen against Intel atm.

What the fuck is happening itt?!

Only problem is that X99 is a dead socket.

You mean LGA 2011-3, while I agree, the LGA1151 one is dead as well, consider your only upgrade on it is a dieshrink of Skylake.

Sup Forums cannot be dissuaded from arguing about video games on every board they spill over onto

Holy fuck are you dumb

the 7700k is $340 and the 6900k is $1000

The 7700k beats it in the vast majority of tests too

7700k is way better

All sockets are dead sockets. By the time a CPU comes out that is worth upgrading to, it is invariably on a new socket. Nobody will upgrade their Skylake systems to Coffee Lake to get the same IPC and slightly better Intel graphics.

1. Overclocked Intel CPU for the same price is 20% faster

2. Ryzen is not going to get any better

3. Productivity is not better, in fact it is way better on Intel in the vast majority of cases

Skylake 2 is base consumer garbage.

AMD sockets aren't dead :^)

>I buy multi-core CPUs that cost 3x as much to get worse performance

Base consumer garbage, can't even run more than 1 VM without shitting the bed on the host OS

Fuck it, I have money and I might as well jump on the 16 thread son of a bitch and up my gentoo compilation speed tenfold.

Speaking of that, did Intel issue a microcode fix for Skylake crashing under heavy loads or was a new revision/stepping needed?

Autism is one hell of a disease

It really fucking isn't. Take your shitty cherry-picked single threaded benchmarks elsewhere, shill.

I'm not impressed, Sup Forums.

>it's not because I said so

AMDtards really are the worst

1.R7 1800x is the "worst" value chip of the three, R7 1700 is the best for its price. Comparing a $1000 chip to a $299 1700 seems pretty illogical, and the i7 7700k is better due to its optimization.
Here is a little info about Ryzen and its future:
youtube.com/watch?v=sciuiEcrnzg&t=1159s
2. Upcoming optimizations and bios state otherwise, Ryzen is not optimized by developers now and that will be taken into account since AMD didn't really have any worthwhile chip against Intel.
3. You are correct on a degree, Ryzen is not the best chip but the more reasonable productivity chip. I won't buy an I7 7700k for $339 and a $150 mobo + $30 CPU cooler if I could get an 8 core r7 1700 for $299 + stock/aftermarket cooler level and a $100 mobo.
More cores for $100 bucks less is a pretty good deal my friend.

8 cores aren't needed, the only real use for CPU is gaming, anyone needing more cores can be done by the GPU

If you bought an i7 for just "gaems" you should get out of this board.
Ryzen is at i5 tier but that is due to lack of optimization and updates.
Read the part where gaming on PC will most-likely evolve to multi-core due to consoles.

>Tesla market revenue per quarter $150M
>x86 CPU datacenter market revenue $4.7 billion

Right, why don't you call up Cray, IBM, Amazon, Alibaba, and tell them they can replace their CPUs with GPUs and tell them their entire KVM/ESXi rollouts can be done on GPUs.

Retarded Sup Forumsermin

This must be trolling. There's no way someone can be this stupid unironically.

>Would it be stupid to wait for Skylake X?
Yes, its going to be overpriced piece of shit as any Intel CPU in the last 5 years.

There is and it's probably the same guy posting the same 'productivity' photoshop benchmark for the last 3 days.

how new are you
I remember people saying i7s arent needed the only real use for CPU is gaming, anyone needing more cores can be done by the GPU

GPU computing is limited.

i7-7700k is already a bottleneck in certain games you dumb intel shill

GPUs are SIMD, Itanium is SIMD trying to do the same thing you're talking about, look how that turned out.

EVERYTHING WORTH DOING CAN BE DONE ON DOS

Itanium isn't SIMD.

Right, it's VLIW.

That didn't do it many favors though.

>2

Cool then I'll wait for Zen 2 for my main pc. If they can get some more perf out of a render chip, great. It's still a chip not viable for 99% of users.

Still, most productivity tests show Ryzen on the up-side against Intel in performance even with no direct optimization.
Yeah. I'm gonna wait for r5 and see which one is the best for me atm (building a new PC, old one crapping out).

It's EPIC and from experience it's rather good at server workloads.

More like firstly mobo vendors and Microsoft need to get their shit sorted before game developers start optimizing.

Who the fuck can optimize when Windows thinks each THREAD(not core) on Ryzen has 11MB of cache.
What the fuck is MS doing

>what is MS doing

Listening to Intel, AMD posted fixes for Zen a month ago Linux, what's Microsoft's excuse for not releasing it?
