Apple critcesm thread

I am not too geeky. But I've seen a lot of comparison and stuff,

The thing is, I literally forgot why apple sucks. My sister just bought an iphone7 and I had no idea how to convince her not to.

Why did apple suck?

It doesn't suck, it's just cool to hate apple

Overpriced, underspecced

Hipsters flaunting their apple gear.

That's really it.

A very hungry fox walked into a vineyard where there was an ample supply of luscious looking grapes. Grapes had never looked so good, and the fox was famished. However, the grapes hung higher than the fox could reach. He jumped and stretched and hopped and reached and jumped some more trying to get those yummy grapes, but to no avail. No matter what he tried, he could not reach the grapes. He wore himself out jumping and jumping to get the grapes.

"Those grapes surely must be sour," he said as he walked away, "I wouldn't eat them if they were served to me on a silver platter."

Normies like my sister only care for snapchat camera, prestige and style. I guess there is absolotely no cure for them.

By overpriced do you mean more expensive than chink shit

DESIGNATED

Bought a brand new iPhone and it's dead on arrival. Went to an Apple Store to have them look at it and they shipped it off for repair with a turnaround time of up to 9 working days. Oh, and they never gave me my SIM-card back before sending it, so I have to wait 2-3 days for a replacement SIM to stick in my old phone.

Not the end of the world but Apple isn't what it used to be.

I'm retarded irl

dun expect much

I think the iphone 6 was the last good thing by them.

SHITTING

If your sister is not into tech dont bother. She already set her mind on it.
Tried to convince my little sister that a 200 chromebook would be enough for just note taking and general internet stuff. She went for a mackbook air.

are you retarded yeah its just cool to hate it could not be that people are paying 649 dollars for a shit OS that has to be jail broken to do anything for outdated tech on the shitty CPU no headphone jack so you have to buy a fucking new cord adapter for your current headphones while also having to be something that lets you charge and listen or just get bluetooth headphones on top of that having shit battery life yeah its just cool theres no real reason

Use an iMac for work.
Window management is fucking awful, literally require command key to do anything, and I need to dig into setting every time I plug in my headphones to switch it over from Soundflower. Peripheral support is also shit, took a good afternoon of diggng around and compiling drivers just to get a Corsair keyboard running with the right layout. Hardware is also weak as fuck and has a smaller fan than my old fucking EeePC.

And that's without getting into their shitty, nearly unusable mobile products that are still a mess of untangling iTunes and iCloud accounts with no simple way to do anything unless you suck Tim Cook's dick.

Dude, calm your shit. A Lightning->3.5mm adapter comes included in the box. And as for charging+listening, the iPhone quick-charges, so the most you'd ever have to go without music is 15-ish minutes, and that's *IF* you were enough of an unprepared idiot to discharge your phone in the first place *AND* you don't own the now-ubiquitous Bluetooth headphones that can be had for sub-$30.

I've had an iPhone 7 since the day it was released, and I have literally never had that problem.

I paid $150 for my t420

Oh, and whoever thought that a full screen grid of icons, exactly like an ipad, would look good on a 27in monitor can go suck on a bag of razors. Windows 8 was nowhere near that bad, and Apple don't have the excuse of making it 'touch friendly'.

thats not true in the usa though even poor people get caught up in multi year long contracts just so they can get the latest release smart phones

>grid of apps

You're doing it wrong. Until you mentioned that app drawer, I had literally forgotten that it existed, despite owning two Macs. I use Spotlight for all my launching needs, and you should too.

doesn't talk about the other half of post thats more compelling info on why apple phones are shit

Okay, fine, let's talk about the rest of that post.

>shit OS

As much as you may dislike it, it's a more standardized and optimized OS than Android owing to the homogenous nature of the iOS ecosystem. It also gets updates more reliably and manages system resources more efficiently. Android isn't so good with the system resources, which is why you see Android phones with 8GB RAM or whatever. It's actually not a bad mobile OS.

>that has to be jail broken to do anything

That is nowhere *near* as true as it used to be. Back during the iOS 7/8 days, I used to talk just like you. It was true then, iOS could barely even share data between apps, and you couldn't even change the software keyboard. Now, though, there aren't many practical, non-rice, non-masturbatory tasks that you can't accomplish on iOS.

>outdated tech on the shitty CPU

The CPU is anything but shit. Benchmarks bear that out, it's fast as fuck. This one isn't even opinion, it's just factually incorrect.

>shit battery life

Huh? My iPhone easily last me through the day, even when I get kind of aggressive with it. Even then, I keep a battery pack in my carry, so I often have a source of power anyway. I recommend for anyone with a carry to do the same thing.

Did I miss anything this time?

What a god.

>shit OS
thats all what you think of the OS personally it pretty shit its no where as near customizable as android and its not that i like android either i think almost all phone Operating Systems are shit

>that has to be jail broken to do anything
I still very much stand by this you wanna do something like download and emulator or download a file to the system and not have to use a third party app to download things cant do it without jail breaking or going in your browser and doing that weird developer app thing i just find it ridiculous that you cant look threw and manage/download files straight to your phone from the base OS and lets not even mention no sdcard

>outdated tech on a shitty CPU
i have nothing to say other than this is shit Quad-core 2.34 GHz (2x Hurricane + 2x Zephyr)

>shit battery life
1960 mAh ok its shit you should not have to carry a battery pack around when you can carry a battery in your wallet and switch out on most android devices and lets not even talk about how Iphones cant switch out batteries

I have the iPhone 7. Trust me the battery isn't the problem.

what's the point of battery life over 10 or so hours?

>And then we they get inside

Absolutely none of the stuff you said is correct. Did you even try?

modern macbooks and all iPhones suck shit.
Certain iMacs are great and only a few accessories are good(wired keyboard and magic trackpad). All companies are guilty of being faggots, apple, hp, asus, etc etc etc.

also, the "OMG STOP LIKING ANYTHING BUT WHAT I HAVE!!" consumers should always be ignored.

Too expensive for what it offers

It sucks because my mom bought me an android when I was in 7th grade and everybody laughed at me for being poor. So me and the other poor kids and the geeks got together and decided we would customise the shit out of our phones with sick icons and widgets and stuff and eventuallly prood nerdy kids all over the world did the same thing. They we all took to the internet and called Apple products gay to try and turn the table on the cool rich kids.

Totally worked.

Suck it macfags.

>no where as near customizable as android

In what terms? In rice terms? Because rice is not a valid reason to choose an OS. I already alluded to rice above, so I'm not even reactively handwaving this.

>download and emulator

>muh games

I thought we were talking about functionality here.

>or download a file to the system

If it's of a certain file type that you're equipped to use on the device, you can download it' otherwise, you can still save it directly to cloud storage of your choice, which I do daily.

>and not have to use a third party app

What? Android is almost completely predicated on third-party apps for useful functionality.

>i just find it ridiculous that you cant look threw and manage/download files straight to your phone from the base OS

Eh, I think that's more a matter of preference than anything else. Besides, there are apps for doing that. I have one for downloading things from the Windows shares at school.

>and lets not even mention no sdcard

No, let's talk about SD cards. SD card support in Android was a hot mess for literally years while Google figured out whether or not they wanted native read access, who was able to write the file system was going to address the removable volume (and removal of it), etc. When they finally did figure it out (adoptable storage), Samsung and LG both went out of their way to remove that option from their devices' stock ROMs because "they didn't think that was what people wanted to do". A classic example of why ceding creative control to OEMs is a retarded thing to do.

>i have nothing to say other than this is shit Quad-core 2.34 GHz (2x Hurricane + 2x Zephyr)

What does this even mean?

>1960 mAh ok its shit

There's more to the story than raw mAh figures. iOS is more power-efficient, so it can get away with less. I'm not going to pretend that its battery life is THE BEST, but at least exercise some integrity in your criticisms.

Apple doesn't suck if you don't need the freedom android has. I personally use an S7 Edge
>No jailbreaking since 9.3.3
>canijailbreak.com/

Speaking as someone who used to be a die-hard Android zealot but transitioned away from that into iOS a couple years ago, I find that most of Android's "freedom" is hypothetical and doesn't really matter in practice. Plus, it tends to carry natural downsides like fragmentation, half-working software, and the elitist Linux-esque assumption that just because you *can* perform certain tasks yourself, that necessarily means that you should be *expected* to do so.

>Copypasta FreeBSD code because better license

>"Look at me, my code's free (as in libre)! Isn't that great?"
>"Wahhhh, he used some of my code!"

Pick one, faggot.

>Wrap computer parts in aluminum and sell them for twice as much

Apple has costs associated with their business that other manufacturers don't, including their retail presence, their support network, and the need for large amounts of liquid assets to essentially launch entire supply chains from scratch, as they do relatively often.

>Sandbox everything and don't let you change that setting so that no apps can interact without their permission

That's a good thing, you idiot. If you could "change" a setting to disable sandboxing, everyone would disable it (the normies would disable it for the first sketchy game app that claimed it needed it disabled, and the pros would disable it for muh extendability), and sandboxing may as well not even exist at that point. It'd be laughably insecure.

>They have people actively working on RESTRICTING people's freedoms by patching exploits required to jailbreak the iPhone

No, you god damn window-licker. They have people actively working on patching exploits that are used by criminals to break into your iPhone. Jailbroken phones are compromised more often because jailbreaking creates security holes by design, and even the jailbreak program itself can sometimes be malware. It's legit dangerous. I would know. I had the Pangu JB for iOS 9, and I refused to update for a while because the new JB solicited your iCloud credentials.

>Tim Cook has brought nothing to the company except pastel graphics and less physical ports, yet he babbles on about innovation because that's why Apple was founded

The AirPods and the Apple Pencil are awesome, and you're going to look like a giant fucking baby in about two years when every-fucking-thing uses USB-C.

It's not underspecced lol.

And it's expensive because idiot consumers still buy it at that price.

It's a trend. It started pretty much with the iPhone 4 because at that time Android phones started to get a little bit competent, some people jumped into the iPhone 4 way too early and that made some people react in opposition to this whole business.

Before that it was more like nerds hating on it. Now laughing at someone with an iPhone is as standard as the green text bubble thing that's been going on. For every hardcore applefag there's perhaps 1 to 1.5 people hating on apple who barely used their products or simply does only have knowledge through marketing. They haven't dealt with these products at home or work, they don't have any criticisms besides "they're overpriced, they're for gay people, they're for stupid people" because that has been shown to be effective when you want to give the impression that you know something about computing.

A person who shits on Apple rightfully knows that changes in quality between versions or models of apple hardware and software are not marginal, and that just like they fuck it up many, many times, they have (and had) products that are also properly made, and not 100%, not 90% are deserving of such hate.

They removed the headphone jack in the 7's. Some of the 6's had issues with capacitive touch screens. Lithium batteries explode when punctured. Other than that, iphones are generally solid.

They had a few valid reasons for removing the headphone jack.

1) It's cheaper not to include it.

2) It's marginally easier to waterproof without it.

3) The jack was a point of physical vulnerability for the iPhone. Apple's technician documentation specifically warns you not to stick sharp metal things into the headphone jack, because you can puncture the battery cell, which the headphone jack literally points straight at.

4) Many, many frivolous repair claims are created as a result of debris stuck in the headphone jack. I work at an Apple-authorized repair shop, and we see people coming in multiple times a week claiming that they can't plug in headphones, or that their phone thinks headphones are inserted all the time, because they have shit in their headphone jacks.

"But the Lightning port is still there!", you'll rebut. Yes, the Lightning port is still there, and it's there because Apple hasn't yet come up with a good way to get rid of it. My money's on the Smart Connector eventually replacing it. It's flush with the device's body, doesn't use any moving parts (even the Lightning port has moving parts), and is capable of charging and transmitting data.

3 and 4 are especially noteworthy reasons. Many of Apple's product design decisions in recent years have been attempts to minimize the number of potential points of failure on their devices. The removal of the headphone jack is an example of this, as is the virtual home button*, the waterproofing, and their use of sapphire and ceramics**. They're clearly trying to build a more durable, impervious phone here, contrary to what Sup Forums says.

*Fun fact: thanks to the emulated nature of the home button, the button is now able to sense when it's not working properly and provide you with an on-screen facsimile of the home button for you to temporarily use until you get the real one repaired!

**Yes, ceramic bodies and sapphire displays are exclusive to the Apple Watch at this point in time. However, recall that the style of engineering that led to the semi-waterproof nature of the iPhone 6S was also first seen in the Apple Watch. My bet is that we'll see these technologies in iPhones at some point in the relatively near future.

>t. mactoddler

Having a battery you have to charge less often means your battery will see fewer charge cycles, which means your battery life doesn't go to shit after 2 years

This! Macs have the worst cooling of any computers I've ever seen. Do anything more intensive than checking your Twitter feed and it gets hot enough to fry your balls, taking away all meaning from "laptop". The fans also get so loud that you think it's gonna explode or something. It's like a goddamn helicopter taking off.

It's all correct. Poo in the fucking loo.

Apple does not suck. Apple fans do.

If apple didn't have its rabid fans they wouldn't do shit like they do now

>tfw you fell for the apple meme

You do realize that OSX != BSD right?
That is something even mentioned on the freeBSD project website user...
OSX uses SOME of the BSD code.

Yeah I'm sure its really common for retards to stick shit in the headphone jack and puncture the battery. Thanks Apple for innovations.

>Soundflower
That shit isn't even being developed anymore iirc. Use Loopback instead. (you don't even have to pay for it, the devs don't check if an old activation key has been used or not)

Besides, don't you just have to click the sound icon in the top right to change the output?

>as soon as she gets in range of the router every other device is thrown off
I've had this problem with Android devices too, it fucking baffles me. Anyone know the reason for this?

>Headphone jack
I still don't get the crying over this. It includes an adapter, and a set of lightning headphones. What's the issue?

Yeah, how dare Apple want to be able to easily tell the difference between a legitimate parts defect and an accidental damage case. The nerve of those bastards.

Not necessarily. If, for example, you have a phone whose battery lasts 14 hours and a phone whose battery lasts 21 hours, you're still going to plug them both into the wall every night, thus expending one charge cycle for both.

Or maybe you don't do that. Maybe you're an idiot who waits for it to run all the way down before you charge it, which would explain why you people are always so worried about having to choose between charging your phone and listening to music.

>botnet with placebo encryption

Only if you're an idiot. The difference to be aware of is where the data is stored. If it's on your hardware, it's yours. If it's on Apple's hardware, it's not. On your phone = yours. On a cloud server = it can be decrypted. I'd like them to go to zero-knowledge soon, but that's how it is now.

>Macs have the worst cooling of any computers I've ever seen.

Speaking as a guy who sees a *lot* of MacBooks, it's mainly early-2010s MacBook Pros that do that. The newer ones are a lot nicer about that.

>It's all correct. Poo in the fucking loo.

FWIW, the reason iCloud accounts are so convoluted is mainly for security reasons. They do such a good job protecting your iCloud account from attack that they sometimes erroneously protect it from *you*. It's not perfect, but that's where they're coming from, and they could do worse.

>Window management is fucking awful,

I agree that macOS could use native tiling, but there's software that adds that, so it's not a huge deal.

>literally require command key to do anything,

I personally prefer this. It's easier to touch-type Cmd because it's adjacent to the Space bar on both sides.

>diggng around and compiling drivers just to get a Corsair keyboard running with the right layout

Sounds like a Corsair problem to me.

Put yourself in the common person's shoes. You can't insert headphones anymore, and you've noticed that you've got some lint and shit up in your headphone jack. What do you do?

There's a chance you'll take it to a shop to have a professional remove the debris, but there's also a good chance you'll say that getting it serviced over lint is for suckers and try to dig the obstruction out yourself. With a small, pointy object.

At this point, you're well on your way to puncturing your phone battery. All it takes from here is a ham-fisted mistake, and, hey, you're out shopping for a new phone a few hours later because your old one started smoking for some reason.

>2017
>mb pro is premier ios app developer computer
>ios touch based environment
>still no touch support on mb pro

>honestly defending Apple's shitty repair process
why

I'm just saying that, as far as Apple and their warranty coverage is concerned, there's a difference between whether the MacBook failed on its own or it went for a swim because you got careless with it. The LCIs are an easy way to discern between those two cases, and that's why they're in there.
