The Official Sup Forums Android Adblocking Thread

ITT we discuss the latest developments in Android adblocking.

Is Adaway out of the box still enough? Can it be improved with other filterlists? Is there a way to make Adaway as effective as uBlock?

Is DNS66 better?

>Is Adaway out of the box still enough?
Yes

>Can it be improved with other filterlists?
Yes

>Is there a way to make Adaway as effective as uBlock?
No, uBlock Origin can do more powerful blocking than the hosts file, mostly because the hosts file's primary function isn't to block ads

>Is DNS66 better?
No, since it uses a local VPN it means you won't be able to use a VPN in conjunction with it, only benefit it has over AdAway is it works on non-rooted devices and you can whitelist individual apps

Just get Firefox and uBlock Origin you nigger.

Adaway blocks ads everywhere you double nigger.

Why would you need a dedicated general thread for this? Just install AdAway and use the default lists.

It's fine, but if you need more there's Steven black hosts

Adaway don't even work anymore

I tried but that thing breaks the AliExpress app.

it also blocks okcupid

AdAway doesn't work on Sup Forums mobile site

Does OKcupid work

if you're looking for ugly fat girls, sure.

Alright then I'll stick to Tinder

>if you're looking for ugly fat girls, sure.
no that's POF

No that's both.

rootless adblocking without VPN possible on Android?
adb + hosts file or something?

You can't fuck with the hosts file unless you have root.

If you only care about browsing you can use mobile firefox with uBlock origin. If you want to stop in-app ads though, root or go home.

adblocking is like the only reason to root for me. Well, can't have eberything i guess

Why can't you root?

i can. i was until last week.
Substratum works rootless and i guessed it might be a nice security reason to go rootless alltogether, but i miss the adless comfort.
