I can afford a 1080ti now, ive never owned a reference card, how loud are these fucks compared to after market? For reference i have a 970 strix atm.

>how loud

I'm sure it depends on quite a few things, not least of which is the sensitivity of your ears. I'm sure you can find a video that purposely captures the sound volume emitted by the card of your choosing.

New and improved build. I ordered the 650w PSU in this build and RMA'd the 520w. I feel more comfortable with the build now. Your thoughts, advice, warnings, critiques on this build, my brothers?

pcpartpicker.com/list/TY38Cy

on default settings its actually really quiet, even during load. The problem is that it throttles. So you are leaving roughly 100-200mhz performance on the table.

if you set a more aggressive fan curve, to retain the clocks, it will be cooler, but also noisy.

>The only worthwhile gfx cards are the GTX1050
You can fuck that right off. Only reason they sell is for alienware builds with limited space.
They are profoundly shit. A scam card if anything. I should not be given a 10xx name because of the deception of it.

It supports m.2. Consider it. Even a small one for just the OS, and leave the SSD for game's, and programs.
Considerably faster. But if ya can, just go whopping big storage on M.2 and leave the SSD for later, when you can afford a large on for 'main storage' and HDD's for backups.
But all in all fine.

Spent way too much on the case. Power supply is overkill. RGB RAM is a meme. It all works, but there is a lot of wasted money in there.

Does anyone know of a good, aesthetic, half height ITX case? I'm looking to build a new HTPC and don't need the extra space, but would still like to be able to use an add-on card if I decide I need one for whatever reason.
Availability from Canadian retailers is a plus, though I'm not against importing it.

Rate the upgrade plan for my system. Stuff I already have is marked "Purchased."

Man, where did you get that MX300 for $112? I'm jelly.

Looks good.

>present day, present time
>need to assemble a new pc
>not sure if should go for i5 Kaby Lake or wait ryzen

should I buy an i5 7600k?

Black Friday. I missed out on the 750 model for $130, then that popped up near the end of the weekend and I snagged it. Sold out super quickly.

>should I buy an i5 7600k?

>>wait for Ryzen R5s

I thought Black Friday was mostly a meme in Canada. I really should have grabbed one. Still waiting on R5 though.

I thought that too, initially. I bought my CPU, mobo and RAM in October and had I waited for Black Friday I could have saved a good fifty bucks (although I would have paid more for the RAM, I bought that a week before prices got ridiculous). But retailers are starting to make more of an effort with their Black Friday shit because they lose business by people buying from the US.

do we even know when they are going to hit the market?

also, op could simply be and amdrone

Ordered this and a full modular psu, kinda excited. I've had nothing but crappy plastic cases all my life.

Got myself a gaming radeon r9 390 8gb. For only $210 aud.

did you buy an extinguisher as well?

Nice, plenty of money left over for a fire extinguisher.

Ret's Pray a game. Build a pc to your specs selecting only the 2nd cheapest item.

Is getting Grizzly Kryonaut thermal paste overkill if I don't plan on OCing (7700K)?

Especially if the custom cooler will have its own paste.

Hey fellas, I built a machine with your help a couple of months ago, I just recently got a much higher paying job so am most likely going to upgrade my machine, but may wait until the 20xx/Vega cards come out before I do so. My question for now is, what monitors do you guys recommend? Pic related monitor I got secondhand and it has a few scratches in it, I'm probably looking for 1440p 60fps screens, probably 27 inches if possible as that's what I've gotten used to. I'll probably just get two. do you guys have any recommendations?
Pic related, my current rig. The G1 has done very well so far, for a 1060 card.

It's all good except the windows 10. Don't pay to be a product.

>59413175
Jesus, dude. what are you planning on doing with that? Because you won't be able to do much in terms of gaming, which is what most of this general is about.
Just get some normal thermal paste like a normal human being
I used noctua NT-H1, was like 15 bucks and had no problems at all with cpu temps.
aesthetic case desu
Ignore this user
m.2 may be considerable faster but SSD is plenty fast already, not worth spending another 80 or whatever dollars on a m2 drive to cut your boot time from 30 seconds to 15 seconds.

>some normal thermal paste like a normal human being
>used noctua NT-H1, was like 15 bucks
The fuck is wrong you? Grizzly paste is the best at the moment and cheaper than your shitty overpriced noctua paste that should've been half the price you paid it.

If you care so much about being normal fuck off to facebook.

Well I don't game. Just shitpost.

Just use whatever paste that comes with your cooler. It's probably more than good enough. Buying paste is a waste of money.

Boy, do I have the board for you.
That machine will do fine for browsing.

pcpartpicker.com/list/n8mFqk

Is this a good build for an overkill pc? I want to buy it when there are better 1080ti models available.
The PSU and hard drives I still have from my pc now.

I use the machine to collect films, shows and comics and games so it will be chock-full of 8tb HDDs

Maybe gonna buy a 4k monitor in a few months.

15 ausbucks* so probably 5 of your greasy oilbux in the USA.

is it crazy to try and find a copy of windows 7 to buy for a new build?

Is 120gb ssd large enough for win 10 and some programs in actual use case scenario? Is 60gb?

Yes.
Out of interest, what's your PSU?
Also, if you're looking to save a bit of money, get an 850 instead of a 960, and a cheaper cpu cooler, but it doesn't seem like you are.

Thx but why even go there when I don't have interest in gaming culture. Sup Forums is more autistic anyway.

Windows itself is like 3gb or something, so 60gb is more than enough.
I'm sure you can find them, but you'd probably be better off just using a keygen, would work out easier for you.

i really want the best of the best

but I am not sure about the ssd, if there is any practical benefit at all i would like to get the 960 pro but there probably isn't right?

the cpu cooler is pretty on par with water cooling and it's more silent so I definitely want to have it

Sup Forums is perfect for people who don't play video games, and only shitpost.

bump

It's up to you, if you want to blow the money it's your choice. Like with anything in any hobby, the higher up the scale you go the less dollar/performance value you get. Like the difference between a 1070 and a 1080.

I want to upgrade to a 1080Ti when the board partner cards come out, in doing so I'm replacing my 1080p monitor with a 1440p one.

1. What is a good 1440p monitor?
2. Do I have to replace my CPU or not?

Windows is enormous in a actual use case. O want a good idea of how much I need.

120gig isnt enough for any serious use, if LITERALLY all you do is cloud based office work and browse the web it will be fine, otherwise you want at least 256gig if not 500gig.

This is assuming you don't have another few TB of backup hdd storage.

Will this play witcher 3 ultra?

Are these things the optimal cooling solution for the average person?
surely they can keep a cpu cooler while doing less noise than my old single fan Evo 212 that's a pain in my ass every time I want to remove dust

I have a few spare HDD I was going to use for games and storage. The SSD would be purely for OS and programs.

Might be acceptable, but you are definitely going to notice how much faster the ssd is and then be kicking yourself when you can hardly put anything on it.

Personally I regret even my 500gig ssd, picking up a 1tb m.2 on Monday.. But if you're pressed for cash 120gig will do the job.

what do you put on there that is more than 500gb?

as a heavy user I can't imagine having more than 500gb as games and os right now

Dell 27
Yes buy Ryzen 1700x

about 400gig of work on that ssd, plus OS and everyday programs, then 2 256gig ssds full of games, a 128gig with my linux install that I swap out when I need it.

It's not that expensive to get higher capacity stuff now, basically I bought the SSDs in increasing capacity as price dropped, after I get the 1tb m.2 ill replace the 128gig with a 1tb normal ssd then replace the others.
Atm the plan is
>m.2
>1080ti
>3x 1tb ssd
>get a gf

What Dell 27" are you talking about?

Is this a pretty decent build so far or should I change anything?
I'm pretty much ready to order, just double checking since this is my 1st build.
pcpartpicker.com/list/ztyqQV

That's like exactly the build I'm also going with.

Just wondering what the Sandisk 240 SSD is worth though, compared to say a Samsung one.

For the case I'm going with a Fractale one.
pcpartpicker.com/product/yLDzK8/fractal-design-case-fdcadefsbkw
or
pcpartpicker.com/product/svVBD3/fractal-design-case-fdcadefsbk
What made you pick the case you picked?

>7700k
>480
>the same build
What are you planning on doing with the computer? What sort of monitor are you using?

if he says gaming and he is usin an i7 he should kill himself

I think they're the best in price bracket. I've got one myself cooling a FX8350.
My only issue is that the pump can be considered noisy. But useing a pair of headphone as speakers is louder.
I think it's quieter on less power hungry chips, as the software with it has scaling going on. Note* you can only set fan curve to preven dumfucks
For the price I can't fault it other than the mounting. I suggest getting around 12-16 spare washers as it seems to expect thicker mounting material.
Ask in /guts/. They've been through all the AIO's.

Guys do I got problem with Dell s2417dg, I'm having problem while playing the game re remake in hdd, the display just suddenly went blank and enter power saving mode. No response from keyboard and mouse could wake the display. Any suggestions?

Gaming, I know I'd probably be fine on an i5 but w/e. So I should change the card?
Just a 24 inch 1080p, 144 hz
rude

this thread is for building, not fixing. Maybe someone will help you, maybe they won't, you're probably better off asking somewhere else like /sqt/ though.

There are only 2 features of a cpu cooler.
>feature one
keep it under overheating temperature ANYTHING LOWER IS A WASTE
>feature two
do it quietly.

So, the best course of action is buy a tower air cooler with quiet fans that don't spin until the cpu reaches between 40-60degrees celcius, and even then hardly ramp up past 20% so they remain basically inaudible.
You gain NOTHING by cooling a further 5-10 degrees with a water cooler, you would have to be lucky to have a chip that is thermally throttled when overclocking, they will become unstable well before overheating, generally.

water cooling is a complete waste of time for everyone involved, other than aethetics.. I guess, sometimes it looks nice.

Depends if you want to play on 60fps or 144fps. Personally I would change the cpu to a 7600 and use the savings from that plus a bit more to change your 480 to a 1070 so that you'll have to upgrade it in 12 months instead of 6.

not probably fine, 100% totally not-cpu bottlenecked, you don't need an i7, you will not notice it in games, you will not notice it in general PC use, you will only notice it in high end professional usecases that properly optimize multi-core and hyperthreading to that extreme.

if you are gaming and you buy an i7 you are an idiot.

Okay, is it okay for the GPu to closely stacked together with WiFi adapter? Like
The GPu is screwed atop the WiFi adapter
Is there no problem at all?

K then, I just figured the i7 would last me longer w/o having to upgrade. Pay now than later I guess..
I'll switch to the i5 & 1070. A-OK now?
pcpartpicker.com/list/Q6zFqk

thats good, you can probably go down from 650 watt psu to 500watt or 550 but the savings are probably marginal and can't be placed elsewhere.

the general rule for gaming is your gpu is basically all that matters as long as your cpu isnt more than 5 years old. the exception obviously being when we jumped from single to multicore.

that won't be your problem.
If the game you're playing is old, and the version of windows you have is new, try running the game in compatability mode.
Your GPU would bottleneck far sooner than your cpu would for playing games, you will probably not have to worry about your cpu until you need to buy a new motherboard. That build is solid, and will run modern AAA games at ~100fps. You could save money with your psu though and use that money to get a 2tb drive instead of a 1tb one.

o yea also that case is ugly as hell, get a Phanteks P400S with a window.

Need some help with a cooling theory. I have an older gaming laptop and I'm in the process of replacing thermal paste/pads today.

There are 2 sets of heat sink fins going to a single fan. One in front of the intake and one in front of the exhaust so its cooling as it draws air in and out.

The fan itself is opened up on the top and bottom which to me seems like that was take air away from drawing through the intake. Should I use something to cover the top and bottom of the fan off so it only draws/exhausts through the proper ventilation openings?

Mind you people can say this is "how companies designed their cooling to be" but this is an older MSI laptop with a generic ass laptop shell that other laptop companies used.

>Canadafag here
>Asrock x370 killer is in stock only on newegg.com
>can't buy it

Fuck this shit

How does this look? I had a laptop for 5 years now I just want to play witcher 3 ultra. Also can I make it matx I don't care for expansion
pcpartpicker.com/list/pbPg4C

Why not just spend little extra and get 1080 since it dropped in price?

Sure why not I will build in a few weeks what is a good price 500$?

idk I've never built a PC before, I just know the 1080 dropped in price and as much as you're spending it just makes sense to wait for extra funding and get one.

This is more of an overkill portable build.
pcpartpicker.com/list/DWqBWX
Should I go for 4k 60Hz (Viewsonic XG2700-4k) or 1440p 144Hz (Asus PG279Q) with this build?

So whats a good cpu, under or a little above 500, to get mostly for gaming

Should I change anything? I'd love to add a bigger SSD, but my budget won't allow it.

7100T as opposed to a G4560 is due to better power efficiency, as is the GPU (best performance per watt on the market for both CPU and GPU, as far as I know).

I really like the features of this mobo, lots of USB ports and an m2 slot, but I'm willing to downgrade if there's a cheaper option also with an m2 slot. I found some a little cheaper (around 100€) but the price difference wasn't good enough for me to downgrade.

Any tips?

7700K

What do you think?
Changing from my i7 860 after almost 8 years.

fuck RAM prices tbqh lads

when are they coming down again? It's getting ridiculous

JESUS CHRIST THANK YOU BASED AMD

Thanks man

Soon, if you are already wanting to spend $300+ on a cpu you should just wait for the new architecture.

you never owned a reference card but now for reference own a strikx? how does that even add up?

Shoulda got yourself a rx 480, seriously why go for lower clock speeds and more power consumption?

>slow clock speed on 4cores
This does disappoint me.

Their better than intel (some at least) and they are all OC-able so I'm not complaining. Don't have to pay a premium to overclock.

thoughts on my build? pcpartpicker.com/list/Kxj6Ps

i probably going to wait for ryzen 5 ,though i admit im not sure if it will be worth it

Could anyone explain me this bullshit?
I'm building a PC and I can't decide between the 6700/7700(k or non k) and the ryzen.
Which one should I get?
(main uses would be gaming and compiling as well as video editing).
Which is the best one for the price and specs wise and why?

Which kit do you recommend, Sup Forums?

280$
Msi B150M PRO-VDH
Intel Core i5 gen 6, 6400 2.7ghz turbo 3.3ghz
16 gb ddr4 2133mhz.

370$
Asrock H110M - DVS/D3
Cpu Intel I7 6700k /8M/4.2ghz, socket 1151
Cooler EKL (400gr)
8Gb DDR4

Any cheap but good key gaming keyboard bundles. Or even just a sole good mouse for that matter
I don't want to go all out on peripherals, after just spending a lot on a rig

Is it normal for Amazon prices to fluctuate that much?

A couple days ago an i7-7700K was at 320 for my country, then yesterday 350 and today it's at 390... I feel dumb I should've gotten it at 320. Here's hoping it goes lower again soon.

What country? Check other computer hardware sellers.
