The fucking tits right here

My work was using XP until 3 months ago.

At least then they didnt disable IE and folder browsing. I cant even google shit for customers now.

no, my name is not aaron

Never really used Windows XP, also ever had proper internet till 2010 by then I was using Windows 7, before then every machine I owned had Windows 98 even if it could run XP

Actually I am old enough to not be fond of XP. Anyone who used the original version knows how unstable that thing was. Nonstop blue screens, error messages, not a fun time.

Oh god yes. Who else remembers actually going into System32 to find this song again?

...Also I think I remember the actual file being like, fucked up volume wise. Like, it was real quiet compared to the rest of the computer's audio or something, so you had to turn your volume up.

I forgot about the blue screens until just now

Vista is 11 years old? That is depressing, I see Vista as being very recent technology.

Remember using the CMD prompt to see ASCII Star Wars?

People often forget about the bad, only remember the good. Honestly 7 was a much needed improvement. I think that was the last time I was enthusiastic about Microsoft coming out with a new version of Windows. I remember modifying my Windows XP with Startdock to make it like Windows 7 since I didn't want to have to reinstall my OS on a weak system. Of course, all those Startdock programs caused a ridiculous amount of lag to the point XP was unusable.

Much like CPUs, software has stagnated since vista. Every windows since has almost been incremental.
I still see sandy bridge as recent

Why is windows xp so comfy Sup Forums?

did u have wildtangent arcade as well?

i remember leaving my computer on overnight to download 100 mb demos.

Sup A-aron?

>be 11yo kid
>buy latest beta XP build at local pirate
>admire its beauty

Because it reminds you of the time when you had fun and life was worth living.

...

When hope was high and we dreamed love would never die?

Holy shit yes

What games did you play?

I remember downloading Rebound and leaving the game and my computer on to circumvent the time limit.

right in the feels

I would mostly browse metacafe that was a weird youtube predecessor

Metacafe was the shit senpai

I miss being young stupid and full of hope, now i'm just stupid

Its re-member, buying into unfunny and forced south park memes is about as low as you can get.

Well, Windows 10 is modded Vista.

or Break.com ;.;7

Damn, I used to rice my XP to look cool and save muh pixels... It was surprisingly easy to rice XP

Ah, the win98SE days where I discovered fucking "abandonware", DOS games everywhere, lucasarts shit, emulators. The first days of M.U.G.E.N. mIRC with that shit plugin that let you listen to midi files and share them with some other faggots in the same channel. Ragnarok Online when it was good. RPGMaker 2000's translation by don miguel. Knoppix and Mandrake. BeOS. Trying to install stupid shit like themes for Windows XP so it would look like mac.

I do. Jesus.

What was that website filled with memes that had a weird name.

I can't recall it, it had a red color scheme.

And they had some pretty hilarious shit for that era

Does someone still have very old screenshots from the good old times?

>gamespy died in 2013
>GeoCities died in 2009

>installing Windows Memphis and Whistler betas
>comfy

>try to find sites with viral videos
>oh hey, this seems like a cool site, uniquepeek
>first easy to find porn I downloaded from internet was from there, some really skinny blonde chick

>all those years later, maybe more than a decade, try to find said video
>I am determined to find the fucking video so I visit the internetarchive
>After 5 hours, finally get it
>dat 240p quality
>she wasn't even that fucking hot
>still cum buckets

...

Rebound was great. I loved blasterball and collapse as well.

no
yes

>mfw my first PC ran Vista

When did you grow out of being nostalgic for derelict operating systems?

For me it was when I turned 15 and Windows 10 came out in 2015

>first PC was running MS-DOS 5.0 with no Windows

I can keep going:
>Avatar: The Last Airbender ended in 2008
>Half-Life 2 came out in 2004, Ep2 in 2007

Remember Cowboy Bebop on Adult Swim? What year was that? 2007? I mean, not THAT much time has passed, right? It was 2001.

when I tried out longhorn beta

Never. Now let us reminisce in fucking peace and go back to thinking you are cool

I played blasterball a lot.

Did you play DarkOrbit demo?

No!!!!!

That...

that can't be !!!!

Stop it!!!!!!!

All those years, so much loneliness, so much pain

Stop it

Nah I never did. My computer couldn't handle it. But also loved Blackhawk Striker 2 so goddamn much

>Avatar: The Last Airbender ended in 2008
Shit nigga, I remember having my eyes glued on my Emerson 21" crt during the final, Simpler times back then

>when hope was high
This. When our optimism was real, and not an ironic facade for mocking our youthful naivete.

>good
man you are delusional, windows xp ran like shit, always.

>first machine was an Amiga commodore 500

Still got it. Might fire up some Boulderdash

Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith came out in 2005.
Final Fantasy VII is 20 years old this year.
How about Return of the King? 2003.

One thing I notice with young people (Oh God, saying "young people"...) these days is that they have a really self-depreciating hopelessness and apathy for the future that they hide behind ironic depression. They say "haha I'm so depressed" but the jokey nature seems like a cover.

>no internet until i moved out in ~2009
>accidentally install gentoo (well, it was fedora core iirc)
>uncle gives me a dodgy copy of xp on a cd-r for my birthday
>set up a sweet dual boot system

That has nothing to do with CMD, it's just a goddamn telnet server you're connecting to. Fucking winbabbies.

Such is life

Don't even start with lotr man, lotr is my go to weekend movie night, the trilogy holds up so well i can watch it forever

I was referencing Les Miserables but yes, that too.

>lotr is my go to weekend movie night, the trilogy holds up so well i can watch it forever.

I wish the lotr movies had more sword action fight scenes, though.

Get them to install Firefox ESR.

I'm using it on my retro gaming rig and it works great

>I started learning how to use a computer when I was 5
>Windows 98 on our desktop
>this underage faggot was roughly 5 when Vista came out
>that cancerous reaction image in the year 2017
I'm not even that old. Don't make me feel like this. Let me just enjoy the one good thing in my life, please leave this website.

>First PC was some 486
>Would boot straight into Norton commander
>Would launch Windows 3.11 from there
>tfw never got to experience pure DOS

You know the knife scene near the end of the fellowship when the chief of the urukhai throws a knife at Aragorn??

That scene is real, Aragorn actually deflected a knife

i used xp until about 2013.

Viggo was such a boss in the shooting of those films.

>the helmet kick was real and he broke his foot that's why he screamed

When the prop department makes props so good they are actually real

Working for weta workshop must be nice

Because you don't use it on a daily basis and see how lacking it is in the current day

You have 1 hour to complete Sonic the Hedgehog

>good old
I wouldn't trade 2017 for anything. Hardware lasts forever, and the best of the best we once paid five figures for in the past can now be had for next to nothing and enjoyed to the fullest with tons of software, documentation and support on high-speed internet.

Nostalgia is shit.

I sure do!

>1991 was 67 years ago

That looks nice user. I want to get a meme theme like that once I build my pajeet PC. Haven't had Windows since 2009 and it's time to come home.

For me, Windows 98 SE was probably the comfiest of all OS's. I actually only have XP on an old netbook (HP Mini 311), everything else is some linux distro or (for my wife) Win 7.

I love that, unless you're gaming, or doing anything processor intensive, the vast majority of people out there can comfortably using anything computer with a first gen Core i3 or newer (assuming it has, or can be upgraded beyond 4gb).

Using a 7yr old computer 7yrs ago was a painful experience, even if you browsing a single website.

I'd also like to note, that XP was was quite lousy in retrospect. Unless you really stayed on top of everything installed on the computer, you would likely end up with unwanted software, and suffer performance issues within several months. and the "search" function? Nearly useless since it didn't index your files for quick access. Plug in and play, or auto driver installation, etc...also useless most of the time. If there was ever a time to use OSX over Windows, it was in the era of Windows XP.

Windows XP wasn't that good, it was just virtually bug-free compared to Windows 6.0 and on.

I first used 98 back when I was a wee shitlord. It was XP that carried me for years until college when I decided to become gay and get a Mac (still used win 7 on work/school comps).
7 is about all I want today. 8 was a complete laugh and even though I have friends on 10 I think they have just given up on life/have shit taste.

>telnet towel.blinkenlights.nl
>it's all there, now with extra ipv6 scenes too

Underage b&

My first was 95 but I will always remember playing SimCity 3000 after school.

if you idiots or everyone contributed to

>reactos.org/

we would be using this daily

Believe me, you don't want my contributions.

A square peg will never fit in a round hole even if you have thousands of idiots pushing on it at once.

Good old days my ass, it was shit back then,
>websites took ages to load sometimes over 10 mins to load a high res image
>you were fucked if someone called you
the only good thing were irc chats

Bullshit. Underage b&.

>gamespy died in 2013
Glad Halo got patched but it's mainly Spanish speaking people on multiplayer now.

What was the name of that game where you had a space ship blasting bugs on a strange mining colony planet? I remember you had to get power crystals to update your ship and the ship had a weird horseshoe shape

There was also another game that was an RTS with military units. You had American military units (yellow) and you would fight Russian military units that were green. I was tied into TBS (as like TBS Superstation)

>>I wouldn't trade 2017 for anything.
Liar.

Cause it was beta tested by the client base. It didn't get good until about service pack 3 or 4. I held out on getting windows seven since I figured it would be a similar situation. I'm using a combo of linux and old windows now. Funny how linux gets so smeared around here for community input when xp took years to finally get it's shit together and it cost money. A lot of money in down time and problems in addition to the selling price.

I remember seeing episode 3 in the theater. Before the movie started an employee told everyone that if they had to have a lightsaber fight they had to take it outside.

Member the good old days?
me either
Seriously, was OS/2 good for its time or a meme from people who were anti-windows but wouldn't commit to linux? I know a couple people who talk about it sometimes like it was the shit, but I've never used it.
