If you want a cheap good quality pen and don't need a retractable tip go for a Graphgear 500 imo.

For quick note taking I use a ball pen but if I really want to write things like a letter I use an ink pen. A dip pen to be precise It's just that much more sophisticated.

Funny story, I needed a green pen, could not find just green. Bought a pack of color pens, and now I love them and use all the time to write in my dear diary.

writing tools general when?

I use a Rotring 600 0.5 and occasionally switch to a GraphGear 1000 0.5 or rarely my Zebra Drafix 0.5. If I need to write something in pen (say a legal document) then I use my chrome Space Pen.

I have other mechanical pencils but I tend to use these the most.
