I still have no reason to upgrade from Windows 7.

Don't be mentally challenged and at least run antibeacon and ooshutup10.

>Now that the dust has settled.

New tricks are pulled every day. The dust will never settle. People will just get used to being dusty.

Wake up sheeple! Somewhere out there is a GNU/Linux distro that suits you.

>be mentally challenged and at least run 2 3rd party programs to stop my Personal Computers OS to spy on me

No thanks lad

i like 8.1 more. Everyone wanted classic menu layout but now that microsoft made it it just seems 8.1 took more courage.
But really, 8.1 runs way better on both my pcs, and i use it one the desktop for overwatch only so there is no reason to upgrade.

...

Then run OpenBSD and never run any software that matters you illiterate stupid shit.

>Don't be mentally challenged and at least run antibeacon and ooshutup10.

Sure, trying to hack a proprietary OS is not being mentally challenged. Stop trying to fix the unfixable and ditch Windows.

great aesthetics, shame about the spying

Yeah, and linux is NSA hacked according to Wikileaks, so run OpenBSD and never run any software that matters you illiterate stupid shit.

I absolutely love it. It works perfectly fine after you debloat/tweak it. Dumbfucks on Sup Forums spend more time ricing than actually configuring their OS.

This is not about the government spying on you. This is about a company extorting you.

manda-fucking-tory post

>thinks "ricing" and "configuring" are two different things.

A-user...are you ok?

You know what I mean

Botnet. It literally uploads passwords, keystrokes, picture files, and program files to Microsoft automatically in the background to check for "illegal content" so the cyber police can be notified.

Better than SystemD

No I'll stick to linux, thanks. Runs everything I could ever need and doesn't treat me as a product.

What data do you tinfoilers even have that you think Microsoft would give a shit about? Do you think they have a team of hooknosed Jews looking through your anime search history and rubbing the hands together thinking about plots to make you some sort of slave? Microsoft doesn't give a shit about what you do. They want to improve their product and its easiest when they know how people are using it. Which features to add, and suggestions that make your life easier.

do you have a single fact to back that up?

>t. Moshee Bergstein

it is known

maybe you should get a job

"one of them sent me example code as a screenshot embeded in a word doc"

What. The. Fuck. I ground my teeth reading this.

It's a shame that DX12 is W10 only and the software producers go for this API instead of Vulcan.

Vulcan will never make it.

I do, I work for GNU.

>software producers go for this API instead of Vulcan
Star Citizen confirmed to use Vulkan only. The only DX12 exclusives have been shit tier console ports afaik.

Windows 10 LTSB is great. There is litterally 0 reason to not use it over Win 7 or 8.

Cant quite say the same for regular windows 10 though, too many annoying features that require third party software to fix.

NOW that the dust has settled?

It's fucking worse than day1 release.
So much worse.
Never go near it. Not even in a blackholed VM, it is worthless in every single definition of the word, even for people that obsessively like to break things, or fix things, it is perma-broke and unfixable.

uhuh

>Star Citizen

Not a valid argument.
It's pyramid scheme based unfinished game project.

>doesn't treat me as a product.
>biggest distro is Amazon spyware

>biggest distro is Amazon spyware
You're talking about the amazon search function that was only available in Unity and that has been removed years ago I presume? Thought so, sit back down itoddler, grow ups are talking.

Feom my experience 7 and 8.1 have the same average FPS in benchmarks.
8.1 has higher "max fps" by 1-3 fps
10 has lower avg and max compared to 7.
min fps of 7 = 8.1 = 10.

make your choice. I did multilpe benchmarks, ran evry one of them 3 times and made a mean of those runs on my PC.

The Talos Principle also uses Vulkan.

YEAH! Windows 8.1 wins!

Went back to 8.1.
Mainly because some games kept crashing, turns out it was a windows 10 exclusive feature. Too many things left a bad taste in my mouth, but main reason for reverting back was the issue with some games.

Eventually I'll have to "upgrade" back to that turd, but I'll stick with 8.1 for as long as I can.

Mind you that those hogher FPS are more like some FPS spikes. Nothing noticeable. 7 and 8.1 have the same AVG which is what you're onterested.

I only use windows 10 for gaming, everything else is ubuntu.

A big fucking lie. I got a new PC with 8.1, hated the interface change from 7. Heard of windows 10, eventually upgraded my 8.1 laptop to stay up to date with the newer windows features while getting back that classic windows design. Now when I use it for basic stuff I have a bazillion different svchost.exes running, god knows what telemetry going on. Everytime I try to kill the stupid processes forcing updates behind my back they come back. It's a real pain the ass to have gigabytes of updates out of nowhere on a 1mbps internet connection. Ran out of disk space cause of this bullshit and had to open steam and quickly uninstall games to get my disk space above nothing. Also the new edge browser cant even handle running webms in Sup Forums. Poo in loos ruined windows.

Fair enough, but until you run a retest Windows 8.1 has a nice placebo that I will use to comfort my buyer's remorse :)

i don't have cortana and i never use the start menu for anything (since like XP).

...

So tired of this meme

>linux is NSA hacked according to Wikileaks
lolwat

how do you really stop update on this ? i still get the update with windows update service disabled

Its still a steaming turd.

iss bad
just bad

It's fantastic.

>le M$ spying meme
What do you have to hide aside from the fact that you're not unemployed since you don't cover the "actively looking for a job" part of the definition? lmao

Windows 10 is actually pretty good. It has come a long way in the past decade, from being a shit OS that you could barely rely on not to crash and erase your stuff, to a reliable platform for education, enterprise, content creators, etc.

>But, muh botnet.

Yes, this is true. However, the NSA has been collecting all digital communications for much longer than windows 10 has been around. You should be much more afraid of the gub'mint than Microsoft.

Throughout history, no software company has yet put people into death camps, but many governments have.

windows 10 kills drives

why would you want to stop updates?

>Windows 10
Here's your resource ill just leave this here
activeabuse.xyz

It's like a hot girl. Has a TON of issues that you constantly have to get under control to make it useful in any way...but if you have the knowledge and patience the pay off is well worth it.

Sucks, but what else is new.

because it download when i'm playing

just use wsus you fucking dip

The only thing that interested me even slightly was WSL. Turns out it's a piece of crap that crashes if you look at it too long.

i would never knowingly use an OS that forces me to update and gives me no choice in the matter

i would never knowingly use an OS that takes screenshots of my desktop at random intervals and sends them to a database somewhere

i would never knowingly use an OS that turns on my microphone at random, records an audio clip, and then uploads it to a database somewhere

i would never knowingly use an OS that lists every file on my computer, and checks them against a database of illegal/pirated files

i would never knowingly use an OS that punishes me for trying to install software from outside of the windows store

i would never knowingly use an OS that doesnt allow me to install the drivers i want, and will reinstall the latest drivers every time, even if the latest drivers are broken or reduce functionality

i would never knowingly think that someone who uses windows 10 isnt a dumb cunt

Just works for me. But I need to get around to the ol' usual back-up & re-install. I haven't re-installed in almost a year now.

I keep Manjaro on my secondary solid state drive.

LTSB is the only usable version

and literally any popular linux distro (or macOS) is better

veredict: use it only if it's your only option

>i would never knowingly use an OS that forces me to update and gives me no choice in the matter
wrong, plenty of options
>i would never knowingly use an OS that takes screenshots of my desktop at random intervals and sends them to a database somewhere
turn the telemetry off of highest level, and even with it maxed out your statement is wrong
>i would never knowingly use an OS that turns on my microphone at random, records an audio clip, and then uploads it to a database somewhere
wrong
>i would never knowingly use an OS that lists every file on my computer, and checks them against a database of illegal/pirated files

epic XD

You're wrong. You lose.

>what does it matter if the police knock down your door in a pre-dawn raid, you have nothing illegal in your apartment, right?

>lies, embellishment and fake news: the post

>laugh at autists who use vim when I am 5 times faster in VS
>remember that lagdroid owners are forever BTFO when wiki leaks proved they have inferior security to iOS devices

Just give up. There is no longer any objective measure of reality, just facts and alt-facts.

Sure thing lad. Of course.

>tfw you realize that if the government really wanted to they could break into your computer no matter what OS you're running once you're regularly using the internet
>realize that noscript and the like are literally pleb-tier that will only ward off script kiddie viruses and spyware
>accept that I have nothing to worry about since I'm not committing any crimes against humanity
>freely use and enjoy the pros of Windows, macOS and Linux
>mfw autists will still fight me down over this

I have a dumb question. I know that windows license keys are tied to the motherboard. But what if I have two different boot drives running windows? Would they both be activated if one of them is, as long as it's on the same motherboard?

Just out of curiosity:

Can Win10 install on a computer that has no network access at all? Or will the installer insist on trying to get updates during installation and hang forever until it finds them?

The reason I ask is because we've got some old XP machines on our production line that we've been wondering about upgrading. But, for reasons of regulatory compliance, we are forbidden from connecting them to any kind of networking or USB drives -- all production software they run must be run directly from a specially-approved DVD-ROM. So whatever OS we install, it's forbidden from connecting to the internet during or after the install.

It's not a big deal -- we can continue to use XP pretty much forever -- but it would be interesting to know if Win10 is an option for our kind of application.

vault 7

That's not even about the NSA.

Yes. NIC detection is done as part of the setup and some relevant prompts are omitted if one isn't found.

- t. guy who had to install NIC drivers after the OS

In 10 keys are to your MS account if you use one for your machine

Thanks for the info.

>hurrdurr i breathe through my mouth how do i blink
>boohoo a setting i dislike is enabled by default, literally unusable
Nothing is perfect for you out of the box. At least fucking try and stop being such manchildren.

>implying the settings can be proven to do what they say
>implying they don't have a habit of being silently changed back
>implying privacy-hostile defaults are not a problem

>What's the verdict?
My next PC is gonna be BSD.

DWS Lite is the best Windows 10 privacy tool.
I disabled windows update so that my settings won't change.

>turning off updates
What's it like being a danger to yourself and others?

It isn't though.

>turn off updates
YOU fuck your shit up
>keep updates on
>get your shit fucked up by M$

It's shit, granted it's better than 8/8.1 but still shit. Stick with Win 7. Hell 7 supports 192GB of ram so those who like lots of ram should be set for a long while yet. (most of the speecy threads the ram total is 8/16GB on average)

Win 8.1 is actually pretty good once you install classic start. Off the top of my head it handles multiple monitors much better by letting you have a task bar on each monitor and have it only show what programs are on that monitor. In 7 I had to install a third party tool to do this and it didn't work very well and I ended up uninstalling it.

>linux for server
>windows for gaming
>mac for desktop

Heavy on disc usage, heavy on battery life, heavy on bloat

Keeping home laptop on 8.1

The only benefit is having my one drive account sync my documents automatically, but i already had that functionality with an arguably better sharing and backup system

still a disaster unfortunately

We're forced to use it because it's the only OS that is going to keep up with new technology and it's extremely frustrating because of the bugs, the stalinian updates regime and the privacy concerns.

Microsoft has successfully made us its bitches.

Decent for my tablet
Terrible for my ThinkPad
The most terrible BotNet ever.
