AMD's new drivers shit on Nvidia's. Linux drivers also work fairly well with 80% performance.

>GTX 760 and RX 480 owner

AMD has shit drivers

t. fury cuck

Just as good as nvidia if not better.

The last AMD card I had was the 7850, and while it was great the crimson drivers messed up my overclock and would always crash my PC if it wasn't running on the stock settings. I went with nvidia and while they are more stable I miss some of the features that AMD lets you do like controlling tessellation and messing around with overclocking. Also nvidia has this stupid telemetry bullshit now in their drivers

yes the drivers are terrible
I have a rx480 and everytime I start my computer my gpu catches on fire.

that's when I call Lisa Su and she replaces it free of charge so I guess it's alright

dubs confirm

I've heard mixed stories about them so they seem a bit hit and miss

bretty good, I've got Nvidia in my laptop and AMD in my desktop. Haven't had any issues outside the rare S3 sleep wake-up weirdness.

The driver settings utility itself will sometimes lag for a sec, but that's not much of a problem. I wish the settings had more documentation as well, doesn't exactly give details on what the difference is between 2x AA and 2xEQ AA and the like

yeah the crimson OC utility is shit, 3rd party ones are better

Had a 390X for a year and the drivers were fine No huge issues or any issues for that matter.

i bought a 470 and it will hard crash my computer every time i do so much as start up a game or fullscreen a video. been using AMD garbage for the past 8 or so years. time to get a 1080 ti

When will the Jews at Intel make GPUs that are at least mediocre so we can get more anti-amd threads?

THIS, except my story's different. I purchased an r9 390 around mid 2015 and that piece of shit would crash on almost any recent dx11 title at the time like gtav or final fantasy xiv after no more than 10 minutes of gameplay. GUESS WHAT. I had to wait until damn near the end of the year with my dick out for a driver update that fixed this bullshit, I think it was when they released catalyst 10.11 or around that time that they finally fixed the fucking problem. But before that it was absolute radio fucking silence. After this experience and the whole power draw fiasco with the rx series launch (and lets not forget dissapointment after dissapointment in their cpu lineup, e.g: bulldozer and ryzen aka bulldozers wife's son) I will never buy their cheap shit garbage ever again. The only reason you buy amd is if you have arreated emotional developmentautism and want to learn what dissapointment truly feels like.

Fuck AMD

No

Also nvidia now has garbage drivers.

It took 7 years for Intel to fix the custom resolution issue on their drivers.

Nvidia's pink screen from the 500 series still exist.

Increase your sample size before you say something sucks, fanboy.

Nice false flag

>somehow uses personal anecdote about GPU to shit on AMD's CPUs

Tell me, do they pay you pajeets in shekels or rupees or dell products these days?

I've had a 1950x and now have a RX480 and never had any issues.

What exactly is he a fanboy of? He owns amd so it's not like he's an nvidia fanboy, retard.

the Wattman settings reset pretty often when booting

but otherwise it's fine

>he doesn't know of AMD's planned obsolescence of older gpu

youtu.be/NtNm7h7-LNY

My condolences

I have a 7970. So a 6 year old card.

The first like 3 years there were cursor issues, driver crashes, and the micro-stutter problem.

I've had 0 issues the past 2 years, though. And it even runs games a lot better than when I first bought it.

If anything they're better than Nvidia drivers now. On my laptop wit ha 740M, now Nvidia nags you with shit, often fails to update, requires an account for lots of shit like just redeeming a game, etc.

AMD's driver quality has surpassed Nvidia's in the last year or so.

t. guy with a R9 290 rig and a 960M laptop

my rx 480 is doing just fine pushing my dual screen linux setup
no driver issues so far

AMD's modern drivers are great and unlike Nvidia the releases actually improve performance.

With Nvidia all new drivers gets you is gimping

They work just fine.

>thread full of personal anecdotes

Is this really the current state of Sup Forums?

>user asks if AMD drivers suck
>people who own AMD cards and thus use said drivers daily say no they don't
>OMG FUCK OFF SHILLS!!!!!!
I'm surprised you aren't claiming that AMD drivers are objectively garbage based on one obscure forum post you once saw on Tom's Hardware even though you haven't used AMD in years and your newest memory of using AMD drivers is from several years ago.

tl;dr you're a retard.

I have an RX480 since launch, I WOULD have said there were no issues at all with the drivers ever but then nier came out and I had to downgrade to 16.11.5 so it wouldn't crash.

Mine doesnt

not him but I got another 390 story

basically fans locked, played something, crashed, temps were over 100C

had to manually enable a fan profile every time I booted and every time after I'd closed a full screen 3D application

I hope you do avoid amd if you are this stupid to be asking this

>HEY WHATS UP GUYS
>HEY WHATS UP GUYS

480 has a higher tdp than 970 and also runs everything worse than fucking 970. they can stick their dx12 vulkan shit up their curry - bare hand wiped ass. vulkan doesn't even support fullscreen lmao
why the fuck would you buy shitty outdated pajeet tech

they're shit
>10Tflops AMD shit loses to 5Tflops Nvidia

m8 I'm going to tell you the same thing I'm always saying when people ask about either the RX 480 or 1060ti. It doesn't fucking matter. Both are pathetic budget cards and both will be as irrelevant as shit on the sidewalk 2 years down the line. Get the card that you can get cheaper.

Wait a week or two and get a 580. New fab process so they're not fermi bombs.

>I understand nothing about gpus
Thanks for the shitpost deepak

That was a while ago, and hotfixed within 2 days? But yeah.

>posting on g
>not expecting suicide within 2 years

lmao

>wanting to suicide in 2 years
>doesn't even want to live until android maids and sexbots will become the norm
Well I guess around 30-40 years of suffering is not for everybody.

The gtx980ti has been the most unstable driver experience I have ever had so far, multiple clean installs, different versions, still the same crashes, fan curves not applying properly, flicker, g-sync dual screen config fuck-ups.

Nvidia has been seriouly horrible since early 2016 driver wise.

Figure this is a good opportunity to ask you guys. I bought my 480 and it runs windows normally but it refuses to run anything 3d or intensive animation. The freaking crimson ui loads slow. Fur mark is 1 fps. Tried 3 drivers dating back to October didn't work.temps never go slightly above idle. Any fix?

RMA, you probably got shit silicon

it came back too

If a clean install doesn't fix it (search for radeon driver remover) then RMA.

Actually wait until the RX 500 series launches before you RMA.

People are saying it's just a rebrand, but it's not. RX500 is going to be on the LPP process, not FinFET. They'll be lower power, and should actually overclock a bit better.
The RX500 aren't just Polaris FinFET overclocked closer to their limits. It's just the same nominal clocks as LPP which are slightly higher than FinFET.

Meanwhile, at Nvidia:
>At least two beta drivers since GTX 400 series that bricked cards, one of which was 100% absolute certain death
>One WHQL release driver that rendered game menus at (literally) over 9000 FPS causing crashing and potentially permanent damage
>Regular drivers updates that reduce performance for older cards

I own an evga 980 non ti and I have done all the things you've mentioned with no issue what so ever. I actually haven't done a clean install in over a year with no issues to report. Not a single crash or dual screen problem either. The flickering might be true after I used to get black screens sometimes but it turns out it was a faulty vrm or some shit in my gpu so evga have sent me a replacement

Stop asking Sup Forums to be critical against AMD. It's not going to happen.

YES in terms of GPUs AMD is literally 2 years behind Nvidia in everything from performance to power consumption and temps.

Unlikely that I can RMA it because it has an AIO cooler on the reference card. vrms have headaches BTW. The funny thing is, it worked fine in another build (the guy who I bought it from). What *might* be the case is that the shitty dell oem mobo that I'm using isn't delivering enough power through pcie. However it should pull all juice that it needs through the 6pin, right? Thoughts?

*Vrm have heat sinks.

So put the stock cooler back on.

And yes, the Dell OEM motherboard could absolutely be the problem.

Also do you have your AIO plugged into the motherboard instead of the card?

They just need the serial of the card for RMA, no sales info, correct?
Actually I think the aio has a molex connector for the pump. I also distinctly remember that the pins used for the fan were disconnected (crimson detected no fan as well). I don't know if that would affect it in any way. It would be odd for the card's fail-safe to be tied to fan speed and not temperature. Temps are around 25 c idle. Tried underclocking, didn't help. Voltages seemed fine.

sssh... its..

The Way It's Meant To Be Played™

AMD drivers are BETTER than Nvidia now. I have a 480 in my other machine. Vega can't come soon enough so I can get rid of this.

I switched from 660GTX to RX480 and honestly I was impressed with wattman. much more intuitive UI than nvidia control panel which reminds me more of windows xp era and I've had no issues at all.

They became better, but Borderless Freesync doesn't work for me (and others) since the new driver

>tfw no Ryzen + Fury 2 godmachine
Feels bad, man. I just can't justify it over my 2500k and 570 SLI when I don't actually play games. Or really do anything with it at all other than post in desktop threads.

I definitely can't say I've had zero issues with AMD. I've had computers with dGPUs since 2001.
But I've had far less serious problems with AMD/ATI than Nvidia.
And going by like the past year, there's no contest. AMD's software is clearly vastly superior to Nvidia's.

Haha I feel exactly the same.
I hardly play games and don't need to upgrade from my 7970, when I used to upgrade like every 2-4 years.

Yet I WANT new hardware... I want some fucking games that aren't shit to come out to make me want to play them. I want something mind blowing to make use to the absurd power that's there in hardware today. But all developers will make is SHIT.

Its easy: Get an RX 480+ Ryzen R5 and you will be happy as fuck while spending only around 500

That no a meme. Nvidia drivers are better

> AMD's software is clearly vastly superior to Nvidia's.

I think in Drivers yes, it became superior but honestly they still long way to go. Look at their own "Shadowplay" feature, still a bit laggy. Or Freesync is broken yet again

I think you can still RMA your Lisa Su.

Yup. The 1060 is faster and runs cooler, for cheaper.

AMD drivers are mostly good now and perhaps a little better than Nvidia.

Upgraded from GTX 670 to RX 480 and was pleasantly surprised. The only gripe I've had was the hardware cursor corruption bug which came and went with a few driver revisions but is fine with the last few Crimson releases and the most recent ReLive releases.

The actual ReLive recording/streaming software is actually better than ShadowPlay IMO, even though I don't really use it much.

No they are fine

Yea, that was a wierd issue. Nier just doesnt work.

I don't know about AMD, but I can say that GeForce Experience is pure cancer

>he doesn't know of AMD's planned obsolescence of older gpu
Nvidia has to ruin everything

Mine crash in some games. Perhaps its because I use Trixx to undervolt it...

"Hey guys. I managed to code drivers that utilize 100% of AMD's hardware potential. Check it o-"

Holy shit NVidia drivers suck all the sudden

>tfw raped by "Nvidia Experience"

I just went from two 670s to an XFX 480.
Everything went really well, couldn't be happier.
I was able to undervolt the card a fair bit without losing any performance.

Used nvidia till last year, amd seems alright.
I've only had a few problems, mainly install issues.
I seemed to have more problems with multi-monitor and custom resolutions with nvidia honestly.

Nvidia driver suck more then amd in stablity and can kill your card, however in performance nvidia more superior

yes

youtu.be/H-aP0JqJkJ0?t=440

>$500
>Still don't play games
>Don't even have the satisfaction of owning the best
What's the point?

Agreed

>GTX 770 and R9 Fury owner

you didn't get jewed out of $1500?

Oh wow that 860K runs pretty shit. FX6300 is just so-so.

Good video.

Probably still worth waiting for Ryzen3 unless you absolutely need a budget gaming PC now, though.

Or I could just be content with my current system that's very nearly as fast as a 1700+480 and not get jewed out of anything.

No. No it's not. A 1600X and RX480 is roughly 2-3 times faster on average.

The 2500k is decent and good enough for most things, but come on, don't kid yourself. The 1600X has about a 25% higher IPC, 50% more cores, 300% more threads, more supported instruction sets where its IPC is even higher, and it's not a space heater(unless you need one..)

If you mean gaymen, then sure, the i5-2500k overclocked to 4.5ghz will match it in some games. But when it comes to not locking up when switching various windows in various workstation tasks, compiling, even just web browsing, and so much more? There's no comparison.

And 570SLI...? That's much weaker than a single 7970, and the RX480 is on average about 30-35% faster than the 7970, IIRC.

Had the 150mhz memory bug but new driver fixed it. Card never goes over 74C at 1100 100% load.

t. Gigabyte 390 owner

I have an MSI RX480 Gaming X 8g and I've had 3 issues with drivers and all the them showed up with later driver updates.

1. Random lock ups, this started about 5 revisions ago and seems to be fixed about 3 revisions ago

2. Primary display would flash off then on every 5 seconds when a secondary display was turned on and would only be fixed with a restart

3. When updating to the latest driver it would lock up if a second display was connected, even with a clean driver install.

Though this is the first time I've had issues with drivers that wasn't my fault for fucking around and i've been using amd cards since the 9000 series

New amd owner here, should I install relive? I'm getting consistent 120 fps on ultra setting on DOOM with an rx 480.

Do you want a useless recording feature to show off to your nonexistent youtube viewers? Fuck that shit, just play your games.

The average human eye cannot see above Nvidia and Intel drivers.

>there's a guy saying Ryzen sucks because he had problems with his GPU 2 years ago
>AMD SHILLS EVERYWHERE

And wasn't that Afterburner's fault?

sounds like a RAM issue

Yes. pic related is still a thing and you still need to raise power limit in a 3rd party tool (i.e afterburner) to avoid random BSODing.

not a single problem since first crimson on my end
this year is even better with more regular releases

>inb4 GCN 1.0 UVD bug

NOBODY cares, upgrade for fuck's sake it's been 4 years

>uses old software complains new drivers do not support it well

what? the cursor corruption bug has been unfixed for like 15 years kid. 'old software on new drivers' has nothing to do with it.

Yes fuck this shit

I've gotten rid of this in the 17.3.1 drivers, and I haven't gotten any BSODs, but I have had an issue where monitors randomly lose their link when the computer goes idle and shuts the monitor off.

You move the mouse and the screen doesn't come back on, so unless you have some kind of remote desktop you're fucked

are you talking about this when you say crimson drivers?

>you still need to raise power limit in a 3rd party tool (i.e afterburner) to avoid random BSODing.
you can do that in amd drivers you dongus

they are terrible, but my only experience is in bootcamp. the official specs are radeon but catalyst says firepro. amd auto detect wont even work, but i dont know if that is a imac issue or a amd issue.

Bootcamp is fucked up though, you need special drivers that support bootcamp

My driver experience

HD 5970
Awesome card
Good drivers for the 1st year
Then AMD stopped all support
New games wouldn't even run
Ones that did had close to 10% scaling on both GPUs.

290x
Awful drivers from day 1
GPU usage was low in every game
Latency was high 800 ish
Weird driver crashes all the time
Installing drivers was hit or miss
Sold it for a 780ti

Gtx780ti
Excellent drivers
Only issue was in Borderlands 2 where it would crash every 5min.
3 days later it was fixed.
Solid drivers even after the 980ti came out.
Performance remained the same through it's entire run

Gtx1080
HORRIBLE latency first month or ownership
Like 9,000ms lag bad
Made everything feel awful and laggy
3 drivers over 2 months fixed it.
Each reducing latency by about 50%

Everything has been nice since that fix.
Still mad they didn't catch it before release.

I still firmly believe Nvidia has the most stable drivers.

Pic is the 780ti
