Also, my very first laptop.

How did I do? Any apps you recommend for web dev?

Eeeew! No thanks. Only Windows and OSX in my household.

Is that 2015 or 2016 model?

It's not the mid-2012 13" non-retina model.

You done goofed.

2015. It was brand new in the box but I bought it off some guy on craigslist. God a good deal on it.

Eh, I was told by Sup Forums to get 2015. It's my first Mac.

No, we specifically told you to get the mid-2012 one. It's the most upgradeable and repairable of the bunch, with the most useful selection of ports.

Kek'd. Stay stupid. I did my research and don't fall for stupid trolls.

According to my research, 2015 model is only good because of its connectivity or else 2016 model is literally the best.

Feels good having a machine that I can actually upgrade with a good enough display that doesn't suck the battery dry in 2 minutes. Macs are still glorified shitposting machines just like any other laptops though, and you're still a filthy webdev hipster piece of shit.

VS code and... Don't think it's new... Reasealing is easy

is this a meme or is the mid 2012 13" actually the best one? what's a good price for one?

damn, Sup Forums is always catty. Just enjoy the thing and wear it out like your favorite childhood stuffed animal. That model is stout enough to run VMs, right?

LMAO

It's the thinkpad of macbooks.

>has USB 3.0 (unlike previous models)
>can upgrade ram (unlike air, retina)
>can upgrade hdd (unlike later models where it gets more difficult or impossible)
>hdd is standard sata (unlike later retinas with proprietary shit)
>can install second hdd in place of optical drive
>has ethernet
>no discrete graphics to die
>in production until late 2016

Mine was made in late 2014 and cost 500 eurobux a couple months ago, which I think was an okay price

oh, so they were made all of the way up to late 2016? why wouldn't you just buy a late 2016 one instead of these stupid new models?

Why indeed? I know I can't buy apple anymore unless they unfuck their lineup

But this computer should last me a few years.

no he's wrong they started welding in the RAM in like 2013

Not in the mid-2012 model. It stayed the same until October 2016.

Retinas, yeah maybe, I'm not really familiar with those.

Look into Espresso.

It has a shit screen, like Thinkpads

What are you doing on Sup Forums then? This piece of hardware can be somewhat useful if and only if it has Gentoo aboard.

Why are you trying to mimic Gentoo pros? Use your GUI shit made for apes.

Why on Earth would you buy Macbook instead off Dell XPS?

You get far more powerful computer with far better look and build quality.

Yet you bought Mac.

Yo, legit non-troll question here mang:
Given the uni-body aluminum build of Apple etc etc yadda yadda, what does the XPS have that makes its build quality superior to that of the MBP?

I mean otherwise the XPS a gorgeous machine with serious grunt, but I had a MBP that was practically indestructible whilst I went through uni.

Haha what

>t. mactoddler

The carbon fiber makes the machine light and sturdy as fuck and helps with heat. The aluminum of the outer parts is of good quality. It doesn't scratch or bend. The hinges in the monitor are extremely good. The keyboard while not good in my opinion is better than that of Macbooks. The Infinity Edge 4K screen is great, the touch screen of it is great and very precise even without scaling. The Gorilla Glass makes me feel safe in handling it in a way.

I love it myself and it is better than Macbooks I've played with.

OH and despite all of this, you can open up the XPS yourself without losing warranty and add/swap/change RAM and SSDs.

that's a 2014 article

>or else 2016 model is literally the best.

Best in what?

Ahh you shithead, I was asking a legitimate question. Was a good shitposting and note-taking machine.
Oh wow nice, I hadn't realised that it was all carbon fibre for the body: I thought it was just the exterior texture. The edge screen is amazing.. and I didn't realise it was touch. Thanks for the info legend.

What is a good non-Apple laptop alternative?

Interiors is carbon fiber. The exterior is sturdy, quality aluminum.

The touchscreen of the Infinity screen is fucking great. I never knew how much I wanted this until the first night I used it while laying down on the sofa and reading a thread on Sup Forums lel.

if you want to come out as a meme go to 9gag

It's a workhorse. I have the i7 2.9ghz one - you can throw anything at it. You can upgrade it with an SSD and 16GB RAM and you're set to do basically anything. The battery is replaceable as well.

Mine is working like a charm since 2012. It's literally one of the absolute best products by Apple.

Why doesn't a Macbook Pro come with CD drive?

>Any apps you recommend for web dev?
VSCode

if they took away simple ports just to make the thing better looking, there's no point for them to put a dvd drive on it.

Specially these days, who the fuck watches DVDs or doesn't have lossless music rips? I thought people forgot about cd drives 5 years ago.

>if they took away simple ports just to make the thing better looking, there's no point for them to put a dvd drive on it.
Pathetic.

make sure you icloud lock it to ensure the serial is associated to you (sign into icloud and make sure find my mac is enabled), and go into the recovery menu and make sure bios passcode is also enabled. also register the warranty under your icloud id (incase the previous owner didn't take advantage of that)

It's a meme. The battery life is shit on anything before Haswell processors but the faggots you see posting about this 2012 processor don't mind because they lay around all day in bed on their laptop and it remains plugged in.

>2010
I'd opt for an i5 at minimum if I wanted continue OS X support.

Entry level mid-2012 MBP benchmarks the same an an entry-level 2016 MB.
It's days are severely numbered.

They're £760 in the apple refurb section.
£400-£500 on cash converter, gumtree, etc.

it's a meme

source: have 2015 mbp, classmate has 2012 mbp, i see and have to hotfix his struggles daily

16GB max, the processors can handle more but apple is never going to release the firmware to allow the motherboard to recognise the larger dimms :/
SATA-3, 2.5inch.
Old school 1280x800.

No they don't the 2012 model would only be able to run the benchmark for like an hour.

2017 model could run it for like 10! so its 10 times faster.

That's...pretty high. I might pay for those specs on a new one, not used. You can get a factory refurb from Apple with warranty for that price.

Where DO technology illiterate appletoddler morons get the false impression that they or their fruity toddler toys are welcome much less belong on a technology board?

ohhhh look another shitty apple product

pleb

>I might pay for those specs on a new one, not used
It is new. can't you read?

And you're grossly misinformed if you think you can buy i5/8GB/256GB MBP from Apple for $1000.

Now that this proves EFI is shit, when will manufacturers stop all the EFI nonsense so we can install Linux without this unnecessary hassle?

Wrong board.

BBEdit -- there are others that seem better at first, but I keep going back to BBEdit. Coda was pretty good, too.
