dumb windows babby

You're supposed to click the No-button, not upload a screenshot of the message to Sup Forums with the text 'no'.

Donate them a tip letting them know if they actually bothered doing a decent job they would be hired and not have to work for free.

May get at least one of these beggar freetards to actually try better themselves.

mpv doesn't have this problem. I don't understand why people use anything else; the default keybinds and some minor config settings, like setting screenshot directory, allow you to do everything easily.

Keklsheckl

why would you ever use smplayer in the year of our lord two thousand and seventeen

Most of the open source devs have regular jobs and do it in their free time

Why aren't you using VLC?

...

Mpv doesn't need a frontend, you're only crippling yourself by using smplayer

Isn't smplayer just a wrapper around mplayer?

Use mpv, you're mentally defective if you need a GUI

I don't have any problems with SMplayer. I like mpv, and it's easier to use with my phone/bluetooth mouse when I hook my computer up to my tv. It's also easier to get casuals into a better player.
It works with mpv and has for a long time (years) now.

>it's another look at me im using software that's completely pointless on windows thread

Then why do they need donations?

I prefer the smplayer UI over any other player UI.

I originally started using it years ago because it has very easy, perfect support for putting subtitles over black bars, which is an absolute must-have feature for me. Every other player I've tried since then has some annoyance that I don't have to put up with when I use smplayer.

Mpv can already do that anyway.
Why do you use the wrapper, lazy boy?

I dontated to SMPlayer, I use it as my media player

>GNo*
Fixed this for you

mpv devs all have animu girl avatar, indicating they are on some sort of welfare due to crippling, medically recognized autism.

GNo/Fuckyourself

>like setting screenshot directory
I like that it stored the screenshots in the same directory as the movie by default.

There's no reason for MPV to be so uintuitive. I don't really give a shit what anyone claims. There's no real reason. You call say GUIs are bloat but all have a desktop

because if they can get enough, they could use that money to either quit their jobs to fully devote themselves to the project or hire paid developers to maintain the project

>open source software with a nag screen
Yeah, SMPlayer is trash. Open source software is supposed to be low-bullshit. It's not supposed to have nag screens reminiscent of 2000s-era shareware.

Can confirm. I have a day job in the software industry and I write FOSS in my free time. As long as I have an income to sustain myself, I'll continue writing FOSS, but it would be nice if I could also make a liveable income from FOSS somehow. That's the dream. Accepting donations (incl. Patreon) is okay, but I'd never stoop so low as to add a nag screen to my software.

>You call say GUIs are bloat but all have a desktop
That depends on what you mean by "desktop." A lot of mpv users would also have tiling keyboard-driven WMs and maybe even a keyboard-driven web browser (like qutebrowser.) There's a lot of software out there that caters for people who don't like GUIs and mouse-driven interfaces. mpv is just one of them, but it's funny because mpv is a meme right now and a lot of Windows users are trying it out and it's the first time they've used any software like it, so they assume it's unique. It's not, really.

Having a basic interface is literally not hurting anyone. Not being able to use hotkeys standardized for a reason is also just playing pretentious.

How is mpv a meme though? It's genuinely the best player out there.

>fork mplayer
>slap easy QT5 interface
>ask for money
lmao

The lead mpv dev doesn't have an animu avatar, he's employed by Plex to develop mpv and their PC playere

>Having a basic interface is literally not hurting anyone.
On Windows and macOS, maybe, but on Linux you have to pick a GUI toolkit (GTK+, Qt, wxWidgets, etc.,) which would annoy some people. MPlayer had an internal GUI, but mpv removed it because it was awful.

>Not being able to use hotkeys standardized for a reason is also just playing pretentious.
There is a reason for this. mpv's hotkeys are straight from MPlayer, which has been around since 2001. mpv devs tried to change the default hotkeys once, but there no agreement on what they should change them too.

>How is mpv a meme though? It's genuinely the best player out there.
I agree, but it's a bit of a meme right now and a lot of people on Sup Forums are trying it out. If mpv is the first keyboard-driven program you've used, you're not going to have a good time, and you're probably better off with MPC-HC or VLC (or an mpv GUI frontend, but not SMPlayer because it's shit.)

>mplayer-gui
>lot of time and lot of work
LOL

>MPlayer had an internal GUI but instead of improving it they couldn't
See that's the actual issue. It's all complaining and no actual solutions. The worst GUI would still be better than no GUI. If they didn't want MPlayer's for being bad there's dozen of other well-received GUIs they could've borrowed from.

>no agreement was made
Why? Hotkeys can be changed what does the default matter? Sounds like bullshit.

>The worst GUI would still be better than no GUI.
Strong disagree. Code doesn't exist in a vacuum. It needs to be maintained. If it's shit, it should be removed. mpv's has a fast pace of development because they discard the crap. The size of mpv's codebase now is much smaller than MPlayer's ever was, and that's why mpv gets frequent contributions and MPlayer only gets maintenance updates.

>Why? Hotkeys can be changed what does the default matter?
The problem is, if you say that the current default bindings are outdated and you ask the community for new ones, everyone has their own opinion on what the new ones should be, and their own collection of pet keybindings from the old set that they have gotten used to and they don't want changed. The two attempts that mpv had in doing this just resulted in bikeshedding and no actual progress, and the conclusion was that the keybindings should be changed gradually. Over time, some obviously terrible bindings, like Esc->Quit have been removed.

mpv > smplayer > mpc-hc > vlc

>but it would be nice if I could also make a liveable income from FOSS somehow.

F/OSS by design is unfriendly to software creators earning a living wage.

SMPlayer integrates better with KDE, allows you to search for subtitles without leaving the player and has literally all of the functionality of MPV.

I know, which is why only a lucky few actually get paid to develop FOSS. I'd still like to be one of those people.

What the hell do you need a frontend for?

It's a fucking video player, not a browser. mpv has an OSD for selecting subs, audio tracks and seeking. What else do you need?

I've used SMPlayer since 2007 on both *nix-like and Windows OS.
it's pretty comfy desu.

>SMPlayer integrates better with KDE, allows you to search for subtitles without leaving the player and has literally all of the functionality of MPV.
mpv can search for subtitles without leaving too, my fag.

it has a nice dynamic range compressor filter that mpv doesn't have

Please explain

MY GOD, A PERSON CAN'T AFFORD TO WORK FOR NOTHING ANYMORE AND NEEDS TO PAY HIS FOOD/RENT SO HE'S ASKING FOR SOME FUCKING DONATIONS!

How dare he!!!!

KILL YOURSELF, JUST FUCKING KILL YOURSELF, you freeloading waste of life.

af=drc in mpv config. Literally as simple as that.

Oh, didn't know about that. Thanks.

You see, no one in the real world makes a comment like that.

Really? SMPlayer searches opensubtitles using the file name as search query. Can mpv do this? If so, I might just ditch SMPlayer.
