Cyberpunk is a genre that was supposed to be science fiction. It featured oppressive governments and corporations that had reckless disregard for the health and privacy of average people. It also featured cyber attacks that could render networks useless, personal information stolen, and actual physical damage to infrastructure and facilities. Since all of these features are present in today's society, it is no longer science fiction but rather the daily norm of living. Most people do not realize they are living in this society, and use technology to watch porn, look up sports scores, or post selfies of themselves.

That sort of implies that an artificial intelligence program like skynet is a requirement for a story to be cyberpunk. I think it'd be more accurate to say dominated with technology they don't specifically get dominated by the computers, or use the computers themselves to dominate..

These are IV-7/5s. These are dirt cheap on ebay. They do sell the nixie tubes with some scientific indicators (Hz, ohm, micro, etc).

Both require up to 30V to the grid and 30 volt to the digit they are displaying. They also require 1.5V for the heater coil.
I use 24V on the IV-22s and 15V on the IV-7/5

Technically not no. They're vacuum fluorescent tubes rather than neon gas tubes. They also take a far lower voltage than traditional nixies. They have a few other differences but you get the picture.
Now style, look, and layout wise they were pretty much modeled after nixies 100%.

Kind of nice to see someone else distrusts the mainstream media. After following it for a while I've noticed a cycle of about 1 or 2 years before people develop amnesia and then within 5-10 years practically have no recognition about events but they believe the propaganda around it. It's almost kind of laughable how it repeats, like during the last administration Obama practically called fox fake news, and the stuff Trump said about the media being unhealthy away from the perceived standard people expect of it the same people that would of been too eager to agree with him a few years ago act like it's a bad thing now. Mainstream media is fucking ridiculous it's all about views to push marketing, it's like when they reported eggman was a school shooter, that was fake news. They don't give a shit as long as they're first to report facts if it is even a fact or not. That probably really helped fuck up that guys life too. No ethics in journalism anymore.

Anybody ever read Altered Carbon by Richard Morgan? It's a pretty good action cyberpunk read. Trashy sci-fi, but it's got a lot of charm. If you read it and like it, the sequel is fine but don't read the third book in the trilogy. He completely shits the bed halfway through so badly that it retroactively ruined my experience of the first two. it's that bad.

Just finished The Peripheral by Gibson was a bit surprised that it had a mention of Mozart in Mirrorshades I use to see that book recommended a lot about a decade ago but have only ever seen one copy in person not sure if it's my type of read though I generally dislike time travel concepts because it seems unrealistic and is typically just a fucky dues ex machina in the story to save the day. Rather enjoyed the Peripheral although I had a minor existential crisis thinking about things toward the end.

Make all your computer programs terminal-based, or at least have a dark theme.
Add a filter on your apartment windows (if you have any) to make it slightly darker.
Make sure any widgets you have in your room (like clocks and stuff) have terminal-like displays. Black background, lime/cyan/white text, bitmap & monospace font. Digital clocks work well.
Get a noisy air conditioner, but make sure that the noise is a soft "hummm" sound rather than a "rrrrrrrrrrr" sound that my AC has.

choose appliances carefully, get as much analog hardware (not just computers - radios, TVs etc) as possible and acquire a lot of screens. install BSD. it's not about dark css and blue LEDs. my electric kettle is more cyb than 90% of your fags battlestations
