Looking to get into IT networking. What certs/books should I start with? N+ Security+ then CCENT CCT?

Looking to get into IT networking. What certs/books should I start with? N+ Security+ then CCENT CCT?

Also I noticed while at a hotel, I was unable to reach the router login via the ol 192.168.x.x Are these business routers only accessible via terminal?

CCNA which is somewhat like CCENT but full course

admin access can be made only cli through ssh accessible and not even on "business" routers, default gateway was in 192.168.x.x range?

So CCNA and thats a full classroom course?

gateway said 192.168.167.1 but wouldn't load anything. Was just curious how it works. Very interested in networking.

Cool, I'm another user. I took CCNA but didn't get the cert, I'm into developing software.

That's because a gateway is just the place where all external petitions to the ip range go. In other words the door to the Internet so to speak.
It's customary for house routers to use the gateway as admin panel, but not mandatory,in business tier hardware you normally connect using a USB port and using a protocol like telnet or ssh,and throw commands into the router.

is the gateway pingable

thanks user! Was researching telnet and ssh. How come you didn't get the cert?
I was using the app "fing" didn't try pinging it.

>What certs/books should I start with
I have the best answer for you.
>monster.com
>look up the kind of job you want to do
>look at the requirements
>they list the certs that they are looking for
>look at a few more job postings
>you now have a list of certs to obtain
>order them from most requested to least and get going

yeah CCENT 1 & 2 equals CCNA

tried pinging the address? what error was shown in browser? many things could happen inbetween.

you shoiuld check a terminal emulator like putty or teratern to see if there's any console access

>in business tier hardware you normally connect using a USB port
Please for a second stop and think about what the fuck you just said.

Gotcha! Thanks
So just go for CCNA then I'd assume?
Putty, check! How about Bitvise SSH Client?

and thats why he didnt pass the cert

I'm looking for IT work but everyone wants a god damn college degree. I have none. But I do have 18yrs IT experience of various degrees

>But I do have 18yrs IT experience of various degrees
Doing what, exactly and precisely

>admin access can be made only cli through ssh accessible
stay retarded user

playing video games and posting on an anonymous taiwanese crocheting image board

>getting useless (((certs))) for proprietary hardware and software that will be obsolete in 2 years instead of learning the system architecture of open source systems like GNU/Linux and BSD/FreeBSD

exactly

Network+ isn't required if you get your CCNA

lots of desktop support
diag and repairs both hardware and software related
setting up and maintaining basic networks and devices
use to custom build pcs and laptops/repairs
jack of all trades really
it admin
mainting small business servers and backup/shared drives
setting up policies and remote support

etc etc

cool so skip that one too and head straight for CCNA. thanks user

Most enterprise grade networking equipment is CLI only. You can usually access this either by a physical connection or something like telnet or ssh.

getting paid to be an it admin while playing video games and watching youtube at work.. lol

No problem. Cisco certs are pretty universally respected in the IT world.

gotcha thanks

can =/= must

You stay retarded.

Is CompTIA certs worth anything?

Look For/Search For eBooks on that criteria on here ;

ebook777.com/

You'll find plenty.

I've downloaded hoards of Sup Forums related eBooks off there.

get on my level you plebs

>can =/= must
You did say "only" you retard.

that's to be expected
the hard part is just getting the job

cheers bud! I think I got plenty of info and thanks to all who posted!

woahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

welp there goes the tech thread.. derailed

They're much better than nothing but worth less than Cisco.
