Is it normal to begin to long for a luddite lifestyle as you get older?
I see the world as it is now and it brings to mind the saying "be careful what you wish for, you just might get it" and it reminds me of the years when I was a "computer guy" and a lot of people looked down on me. Now a lot of those people are hopelessly addicted to their phones and social media. People in their 50s, 60s, and 70s.
I wanted technology to be more embraced, but not like this.

I'm approaching 35, have been a computer nerd since as long as I remember and a professional programmer for 15 years, and if it wasn't for the fact that I literally have no other skills that would allow me to support myself, I'd gladly move to some fucking rural area and spend my time chilling offline. I'm absolutely tired with technology; both my work and the influence it has on people's lives in general.
Also, despite knowing quite a bit about tech after all these years, I've been considered a luddite by "normies" for quite some time, because:

I've always wondered what my father thought about the future, he was born in '57, and his father was a leading computer/chemical scientist of the time. Came home with briefcases full of punch cards, it's what my father and his siblings uses to draw on as kids, but despite all this he says he never thought about the future.

On the one hand, I enjoy a simple lifestyle with few things to be expenses. I don't mind roughing it a little if I can avoid having to work longer. On the other hand, I'm more interested in technology than any other human activity, and I hate people who reject technological or scientific advances for sentimental or fear reasons. Yeah, people do dumb shit because technology allows it. That's their problem, let them hurt themselves and don't worry about it. Nothing of value is lost and the smart people who continue to advance technology in interesting and useful ways aren't going to magically die, they'll just be hidden in the masses of idiots.

I had a coworker who would talk about this all the time. He had some sick computer skills, but wanted to go back in time to relive his woodshop class he took as a child. One day he quit, moved out west, and became an apprentice carpenter at a mom-and-pop store in a small rural town. (he also got married)
