Is it normal to begin to long for a luddite lifestyle as you get older?
I see the world as it is now and it brings to mind the saying "be careful what you wish for, you just might get it" and it reminds me of the years when I was a "computer guy" and a lot of people looked down on me. Now a lot of those people are hopelessly addicted to their phones and social media. People in their 50s, 60s, and 70s.
I wanted technology to be more embraced, but not like this.
you should try to refrain from caring about how people judge you, a lot of times you can't help it. At the same time you should refrain from judging people the same way.
Kayden Gomez
after like 7 years selling and 3 taking care of tech yeah i would really like to build a log cabin or learn flyfishing or some weird away from civilization shit. but i have no desire to drop it until i get far enough to be able to choose my next carrier comfortably without just... stopping... or something
Hunter Bennett
Kaczynski effect
Brayden Long
Yeah, the things he was right about he was -really- right about.
William Martin
the world is pretty fucked up and modern society has replaced true community with fake blue connectedness. our lives are hollow and we long for genuine community that no longer exists.
People are shallow, relationships are fleeting, you will not build a network of actual friends in this modern world. You will exist a tiny island adrift in a sea of glowing screens. Social interaction is now a formality, the coming generations will be among the most isolated and simultaneously the most connected.
Logan Watson
I saw this technology as a resource, not a residence.
It has created some truly vacuous people.
Thomas Green
the world is the best its ever been, it's just idiot hardliners in irl Sup Forums and youtube making everything seem like doom. people being completely superficial and trying to maintain ludicrously oversized social groups to feel self worth is nothing new it's just easier to tell who's a complete social cuck now
Samuel Stewart
>the world is the best its ever been
Digital tech is becoming cheaper but everything else is becoming more expensive. No, the world isn't the best it's ever been. It's becoming worst.
Jayden Hernandez
We have multiculturalism...nobody wants to be a part of society anymore.
You act suprised. People drown themselves in anything to escape their own misery for awhile.
Nobody trusts anyone. We keep to ourselves now.
Everyone is afraid. Your leaders have destroyed your community and culture.
This is not tech fault. Multiculturalism did this.
Jose Sanders
It's not you getting older OP...things genuinely do suck now. Of course you want to escape.
Juan Sullivan
This OP post is so good and complete, I don't even have to add anything.
Lincoln Perez
Ok has a cause but refuses to look at the symptom.
Henry Campbell
Or rather the other way around....he see a symptom...society withdrawing...people distant and lonely.
Refuses to see the cause...what has happened to make society embrace such a thing.
Chase Parker
>get older >22
Tyler Flores
I think exactly the same OP. I've always been a computer guy, but never an autist. (Inb4 : > Sup Forums > never an autist)
Funny how normies became retarded with technology. Dem fucking smartphones zombies can't leave their minds alone for a few hours. There is no hope in humanity anymore.
Jonathan Cook
>the world is the best its ever been
Dylan Allen
Social media has sped up the process of multiculturalism. You see all these third worlders in africa and asia wanting to go to the """paradise""" they see on instagram and facebook (Europe), and being able to stay connected with each other.
Jack Carter
all the convenience and increased living standards we were promised with new technology never mentioned giving up every last shred of privacy as the price of admission
Parker Roberts
>you should try to refrain from caring about how people judge you Never taken up a mortgage? You will very much be judged when you do, at least around here,
Brandon Garcia
Yes
Ted tried to warn them but they wouldn't listen.
Too many people feel (wrongly so) that the establishment of mass surveillance and complete loss of rights can be prevented. They never realize that it's technology itself that will inevitably bring these things.
No intelligent person could continue to rationalise microphones and cameras turning into internet-connected devices that absolutely miniscule in size. Obviously this is going to result in mass physical surveillance with little initial investment.
Dystopia is coming and it's not because of some evil conspiracy of government agents who want to ruin every citizen's life, it's because you like the convenience of google.
Joshua Nelson
>Don't judge Such a retarded statement that seems to just be accepted as good advice. Telling someone not to judge is telling someone not to think and form opinions.
Judge more.
Oliver Robinson
>smartphones zombies can't leave their minds alone for a few hours. This. Although, the world is not as hopeless as you're making it seem. Can you tell me more about this guy? I'm ESL and I don't really know anything about him.
Elijah Gray
The need to be observed and understood was once satisfied by God. Now we can implement same functionality with data-mining algorithms. Since God did not exist, it was necessary to invent Him.
Alexander Lopez
Judge. Question them and make them question themselves. Phase out the reckless and forwardless thought school of "Don't fucking judge me! I'll do whatever the fuck I want!" that seems so widespread today. Get rid of the massive echo chambers online. Force people to interact with others; to teach one another.
Stop masturbating (to porn), that fucks up your brain and its' pleasure centers.
Dominic Long
Math professor/genius type, bombed some people. Wrote a big paper on how technology is destroying society.
I'm approaching 35, have been a computer nerd since as long as I remember and a professional programmer for 15 years, and if it wasn't for the fact that I literally have no other skills that would allow me to support myself, I'd gladly move to some fucking rural area and spend my time chilling offline. I'm absolutely tired with technology; both my work and the influence it has on people's lives in general.
Also, despite knowing quite a bit about tech after all these years, I've been considered a luddite by "normies" for quite some time, because:
>I've never had a social media account in my life >I've never owned a smartphone in my life >I use a paid email service and send emails in plain text wrapped at 72 columns, replying _below_ the quotes, which seems to confuse the fuck out of 99.9% of people these days >I use cash to pay for almost everything >I only visit maybe 4-5 websites in the entire Internet and prefer newspapers and books to online fucking "content" (i.e. clickbaity, keyword-stuffed, ad-ridden shit written by underpaid retards who can't write for freetard idiots who can't read)
James Clark
so now you understand all those older people that can't learn how to use computers?
Brody Brown
Technology is fine. Your thoughts mean you're becoming weak. You'll falter until you're so weak in mind that you will have second thoughts on having second thoughts. And you thought your sudden realization was innocent, free of consequence. No, it's just the beginning of your unraveling if you cannot get yourself back to center.
Zachary Campbell
Technology is not evil. It's those at the helm. Technology makes it more efficient for the less evolved at the helm to self-destruct (which is in itself an overstatement).
Jacob Wood
Theodore is wrong despite how much I liked his creativity and persona. We have other means. It could be different if people were not so inclined to be easy prey.
Justin Sanders
Virtually the same story here.
Except I do own a 3 year old smart phone, for maps mostly, because I got tired of carrying paper maps.
Even some other programmers seem to think I'm odd for not paying with my credit card, but carrying cash.
Justin Brooks
Funny thing, Ted was locked up in adjacent cells with the guy that blew up the FBI building, the Al Qaeda terrorist on who they pinned the first bombing of the WTC and some Latin King gangbanger that got hundreds of people killed from the inside. The Al Qaeda guy tried to convert them all to Islam.
Angel Butler
>Guy devotes a significant part of his life and sanity into writing an argument as to why what you just said is wrong >lol fuck reading that shit man! It's da corporations!
I've thought for a number of years now that under different circumstances I'd quite like to be a monk.
Hunter Reyes
Around here a number of places has all out banned cash payments (including my whole campus).
It's an interesting development. Good for convenience and good for shops since they don't carry cash and as such are not likely targets of robbery. Bad for anyone preferring cash (for privacy, backup or other reasons).
Liam Walker
You only find people who are scared of what other think on Sup Forums and Sup Forums kek
Xavier Martinez
Corporate greed, surveillance and so called social networking have destroyed the internet. Now it's all about selling and getting information about people. Then that information can also be sold. Or stored to be "used against you in a court of law" if necessary. Normies accept all this shit and don't seem to care. We don't need to make artificial robots, we already have millions of them made of flesh and blood. I was born in 1950, yeh really. When I think back to the optimism with which I viewed the future, even as recently as the early 2000s, I genuinely despair now. We are well and truly fucked. People on Sup Forums etc are treated with suspicion and distrust because we learn about and know things that are increasingly judged as dangerous to know. We're a dying breed - regardless of age.
Justin Perry
>tfw the cyberpunk dystopia is becoming real
Austin Wilson
>I was born in 1950
at least you lived trough the golden age of tech and futurism
Joseph Wright
Respectable.
This. Why do normies have to plaster their shit everywhere at every time ?
Camden Flores
I suppose it's naive to hope that maybe we'll all become more tolerant of eccentricities in the face of everyone having their secrets passively harvested by and known to the elite huh?
Levi Torres
I imagine you still believe in Santa
Josiah Richardson
w-what do you mean by this?
Easton Price
Kurisutina da bes. We'll get those SERN bigger.
Logan Jenkins
For some reason this hit incredibly hard, especially >even as recently as the early 2000s, I genuinely despair now. We are well and truly fucked. >because we learn about and know things that are increasingly judged as dangerous to know. I've always wondered what my father thought about the future, he was born in '57, and his father was a leading computer/chemical scientist of the time. Came home with briefcases full of punch cards, it's what my father and his siblings uses to draw on as kids, but despite all this he says he never thought about the future. I just find your post brilliant.
Eli Adams
If you live in america this is illegal as cash is legal tender and they are legally obligated to accept it.
Josiah Wood
It's natural if you get shoved wotard the decentralised technology pinyins. Luddism is one natural guardpost on the road a lot of fourchan kiddos get onto.
Wonder what you could've changed about your own life not to come to this [?]
William Cooper
I don't care. But I can relate to the addiction part. I used to be super into gaming/computers and my family thought I was weird. Now they're on facebook all day and I don't even have a social media account (used to for a few years but then realized it just sucks up time, drains you and leave you feeling unhappy)
Charles Harris
Very nicely put into words, i was really struggling how to teach this matter to my kids
Nolan Myers
>shitposting on Sup Forums at 66 years old
I bet you fapped to BBS ASCII porn, didn't you?
Ryder Cooper
not him, but have you not read and fapped to erotic stories (text) before?
Josiah Price
Not in the US, so not applicable here.
Easton Myers
This is wrong; there is nothing requiring any business to accept any particular form of currency. If you want to buy a $10,000 car with pennies, you are not entitled to do so just because it is "legal tender."

Brainlet mode: Luddite Sheep mode: Technophile Logic mode: Recognizing that new technology has benefits and drawbacks, and that change for the sake of change is not progress. Using a mixture of old and new technologies that fit your lifestyle and needs will always be best.
Nicholas Martinez
This nigga woke. Learn to take the good and be unphazed by the bad. We have access to information and products not even kings of the past had. Don't flood your head with jewish media though.
Lincoln Johnson
This thread has nothing to do with porn.
And judging people with lack of information isn't the intellectual exercise you believe it to be. The phrase "don't judge me" is for those who wouldn't know you well enough to make the proper assumptions that would be precursors to understand their dilemma in life, which may in fact change your judgement.
Brayden Nelson
>Brainlet mode: Recognizing that new technology has benefits and drawbacks, and that change for the sake of change is not progress. Using a mixture of old and new technologies that fit your lifestyle and needs will always be best. True Philosopher mode: Recognizing that luddism and technophilia can fit one's lifestyle and needs, and that for these specific people, the benefits they recieve from the ideology circumcises the need to ascribe to some platitiude about compromise or something like that.
Tyler Watson

Id like a life where the tinkerer and hacker can still prosper and technology isnt a weapon used against citizens by governments. I have devices that are non-upgradable blackboxes that spy on me and thats where everything seems to be going
Charles Jones
Based user.
Judging is for fools, We are all human beings. Judging leads to hate, leads to anger and frustration, leads to failure.
If you don't judge, you will notice how suddenly people don't mind being closer to you, and they respect you.
Caleb Cook
No. Master technology and rule it.
Andrew Hall
I'm probably mildly autistic, I love to talk with people but hate to talk verbally.
Communicating through text is ideal for me, and that's most functional in this digital age.
I quickly get annoyed with verbal communication unless you're very close to me like my ex or one of my best friends.
Living as a luddite, I'd probably kill myself from all the require verbal communication.
Caleb Thomas
Underage get the fuck out. Anyone who knew pre-2008 knows that's bullshit. Anyone who lived through the late 80s to 90s knows that's really bullshit. Anyone who lived through the 70s or earlier knows even when the riotous 60s were happening things weren't this politically and socially unstable.
You're a delusional moron. I'm a liberal and I cannot fucking believe how dense people on our side are about this. Stop pretending like problems don't exist and aren't getting worse. You're going to get us all killed. Fuck.
Asher Torres
Similar story here. 27, been a fan of technology my entire life, been using computers my whole life. Now that it's at the forefront of society, I want it to go away. It is so prevalent and pervasive, you cannot get away from it if you want to participate in society.
Despite having used it for so long and having been enamored with it for most of my life, I'm the weird one because I don't use a smart phone or social media websites.
Jaxon Sanders
same, also 27 though i do have a smartphone, with no SIM card in it i got it cheap and the 1080p oled display is just great for looking at porn in bed, sue me
Angel Harris
Once again...it's not tech...it's multiculturalism that's turned out world to Hell and ruined our societies
Aiden Stewart
On the one hand, I enjoy a simple lifestyle with few things to be expenses. I don't mind roughing it a little if I can avoid having to work longer. On the other hand, I'm more interested in technology than any other human activity, and I hate people who reject technological or scientific advances for sentimental or fear reasons. Yeah, people do dumb shit because technology allows it. That's their problem, let them hurt themselves and don't worry about it. Nothing of value is lost and the smart people who continue to advance technology in interesting and useful ways aren't going to magically die, they'll just be hidden in the masses of idiots.
Isaiah Ward
Go to bed Sup Forums
Henry Long
I had a coworker who would talk about this all the time. He had some sick computer skills, but wanted to go back in time to relive his woodshop class he took as a child. One day he quit, moved out west, and became an apprentice carpenter at a mom-and-pop store in a small rural town. (he also got married)
I did agree with his opinion, but I still believe there is another solution that doesn't involve leaving everything behind.
Justin Morgan
The world is shit now, very mcuh so, but it's a fucking delusion to think it hasn't always been shit, much more so in the past. Now you can actually complain about how shitty it is instead of worrying about getting your head cut off if you disagree, at least some of the time anyway.
Joseph Barnes
How do you think the jews popularised multiculturalism? they couldn't have done it without the invention of the TV. Mass immigration on this scale wouldnt have happened before the airplane. womem's "liberation" couldn't have been done without the invention of the washing machine.
Ryder Rodriguez
And the boogeyman couldn't exist without the invention of the closet.
Colton Johnson
I would argue that loss of religion did this.
Christian Gonzalez
The loss of religion is part of the loss of identity that allowed multiculturalism to take root.
Jordan Price
This is truth. Ignore jaded antisocial anons saying it's bad advise.
To not judge doesn't mean you need to accept everything and pander to everyone. It just means you should stop caring about things which have no real impact on you. Judgemental people are so fucking neurotic they end up trying to control everything around themselves, but there's always something to worry about so their efforts are pointless. They just end up being extremely unhappy with things, and it drags everyone around them down too.
Fight mercilessly when you're really being oppressed, but always be critical about if what you're feeling is real oppression, or just some shit you're making up in your head. Reflection is key. Keep track of what you care about, stop worrying about useless shit, and you'll be happier and more successful. I promise.
Isaiah Moore
I remember when kids would play outside most of the summer. Now I don't see any on my casual bike rides. I saw a couple of 3-4 year olds one time but they were staring at their fucking phones while walking.
Hunter Hall
tell us some more stories g-pa!
Colton Green
This desu.
I get it, look at your phone on the bus. But go climb some trees and fall out of them nigga.
Shit I am only 27 I shouldn't be having "kids these days" garbage this early.
Dominic Jenkins
Good fuck those little shits, causing problems and mischief outside doing things and stuff.
