Multiboot

Why does Ubuntu hate me, Sup Forums? Has dual/multi-boot ever caused anyone else this much trouble?

Google ur issue faggot, and I'm talking about ur tech issue, not your mental issue

Insightful response, thanks for contributing to the conversation.

Googling was the first thing I did, fuckface, I've spent hours and hours trying to figure this shit out to no avail.

sounds like you GRUB didn't install properly. have you formatted the drive, installed windows and then tried it again?

I really can't format the disk at this time, I do everything on my computer and AFAIK, I have no way of reinstalling Windows if I were to format it.

I formatted the partitions Ubuntu installed to and tried again, but it still didn't work. boot-repair did fuck all, and I am not sure about any workaround regarding boot managers on the Windows side of my partition.

Is formatting the entire disk, reinstalling Windows then installing Ubuntu the only way from where I am, or can I install another boot manager without having to worry about file damage?

Dude, just run "sudo grub-install /dev/sda" from chroot or live

Try GRUB rescue disk
>I have no way of reinstalling Windows if I were to format it.
What? Why?

Both of you morons don't know what you're talking about

Its literally this easy, OP

I doubt OP is capable of doing that.

Sup Forums is not your personal techsupport, you imbecile. Ask this shit in the /fglt/ or a linux support forum. Also stop calling it
>Linux 16.04

Did it, only gave me an error message saying it couldn't complete.

Also this, its really simple

I called it that once, it's also helpful to know which version of the software you're dealing with.

It is Ubuntu 16.04, Linux version is most likely 4.x

Okay, thanks.

Kys, OP

>GRUB
Thats the problem. Use syslinux

Spotted HPA.

>Linux 16.04

try booting into windows and disabling fast startup. This keeps the drive half-awake and doesn't allow it to be mounted.

>too afraid I will brick my entire disk by mistake
Why? Just start over.

Seeing you are massive retard, I'll give my best guess.
During the installation process, you installed boot loader on /dev/sdaX instead of /dev/sda or whatever.
Just list all the disks and install GRUB in master.

Install gentoo
