Shit OS. No games.

i think i found one the entire OS

this
also build on gentoo and still google botnet

does it have an ssh client? yes? i'm good.

it's a chromebook.

It's too cheap so I can't use it to attract girls

Proprietary and tightly locked down BIOS. At least you can install SeaBIOS to boot a Linux distribution off a USB for either USB install or to wipe Chrome OS and install a Linux distribution.

They're focus is too narrow for now, they're clearly designed for a small segment of the market (k-12 schools and people who want a cheap secondary computer just for web browsing).

The Samsung ones look a lot like a MacBook.

the only thing i would use that for is to throw xubuntu on it install kodi and use it as a smart tv

or you could spend $20 on a beaglebone or some shit

exactly why its shit when you can do it with anything

Chromebook's are locked the fuck down.
i hate saying this but it makes more sense to develop on a MacBook

I am shit posting right now from a Samsung Chromebook Plus.

Chromebook is a good machine if you already have a very powerful desktop and just want something cheap to take along with you while you are out of the house to shitpost, listen to music, browse the web, etc. Very good at doing that and much lighter then a thinkpad and better battery life.

even if you don't use a desktop and only occasionally need obscene amounts of power you can just rent some supercomputing time and ssh in

I tachyon render 3D scenes with over a million points "on my chromebook" in a couple of hours sitting at the park with 10 hours of battery life to spare

I just cannot imagine going back to using thick-clients when the internet is so ubiquitous now.

>no games

For the target audience i don't think that matters and more considering most of the chromebooks doesn't have beefier hardware. A big part of the windows users only use the browser and an office suite for simple documents which is something chromeOS does perfectly and i feel that actually CAN hurt microsoft.

Chromebooks are fine for shit posting on fb, but you're really limited. I developed throw ssh and it's incredibly painful unless you have a premium service.

>I developed throw ssh and it's incredibly painful unless you have a premium service.

huh?

Chromebooks are literally for children, poorfags and 3rd worlders.

>does it have an ssh client?
Yes it does.

cmcenroe.me/2015/05/31/chromebook-vpn.html

Yeah I'm sure it's shit

>Implying Chromebook hardware can support even a decent-size fort

Sometimes when you program you have to modify your system try doing this with a Chromebook.

The keyboard. No function keys, no page up/down , no home or end, no insert or delete.
Most of the criticism here is more or less wrong since it's pretty easy to install a proper linux distro w/ or w/o removing the write protection screw. Hell, you can get plenty done with just the built in shell and crouton.

>Sometimes when you program you have to modify your system
Elaborate.

Why do most Linux distros have shit power management? I don't think it would be beneficial halving your battery life. ChromeOS seems light, maybe Peppermint would be a good replacement.

Idk about halving your battery life. I installed galliumos on my chromebook, it gets almost the same amount of battery life as chromeos (around ~11 hrs). I did remove most of the stock bloat and use terminal based programs usually.

Can I remote desktop to my Windows 10 PC from a Chrome book? I am thinking of getting a cheap one for sofa browsing where all the hard work is done on my main PC.

Yes, it's called chrome remote desktop.

I run into developers of all sorts in Santa Clara County, and I never seen any of them unironically use a Chromebook.

you can install a linux distro on a chromebook using crouton

chrome os is literally a linux distro

Whoa! have you heard about this new thing? It's called a chromebook, it's like a laptop but in stead of an OS it has only a browser and some extensions on it!! It's so revolutionary and awesome I can't believe it costs just the same as a normal boring laptop!!!

A distro based off of Gentoo, to be exact.

but it's not Gentoo.
just like how IOS is based off BSD, but it's not BSD.

you cant use portage

Nobody said it was Gentoo, mong.

>in chromeOS
no
>on a chromebook
install gentoo

>Chrome OS isn't Android with PC apps
Fucking why?

Literally the PERFECT complimentary laptop. A light 2-in-1 with an average of 12(!) hours batterylife. You can do anything on the internet these days, you don't need anything else.

Need more computing power?
>Remote into my desktop at home

Want to program on the go?
>Install a distro

Want to kill some time?
>Literally millions of games on android

There are no flaws, only cucks who would sell their mothers for a cuckbook pro.

>shit power management
That was my biggest complaint about switching from ChromeOS. However, that was back when ChrUbuntu was the only option out there, and I haven't tried since then. It's one of the much older Chromebooks, and I've gotten used to its role as a comfy shitposter/document writer/remote into my server.

As for the keyboard complaints, the C710 has a traditional keyboard and shittons of ports. Mine has more real-world function than the MBP that I'm posting from now.

They don't want to sell me hardware. They want to sell me access about my internet usage habits.

Prove me wrong.

It takes slightly longer than it should to replace with a linux distro

With PC apps you mean windows programs? Go be ignorant somewhere else.

lighter I belive, but I get around 12h batterylife on my x230, I doubt that your chromebook has much more (or that more than that is necessary)

I think he means apps running in windowed mode, like the Remix OS in his pic.

I found two. What do I win?

Chromebook.

Web browser os for a whole computer, no thanks.

Nice thumbnail newfag

The most restricted OS with the least amount of applications built for it. Gee where are the flaws?
