My boyfriend is looking to switch from Windows to Linux. What he's talked about is wanting a distro that is stable, looks nice, and isn't a complete botnet. The only thing he really uses the desktop for besides web browsing and stuff is streaming movies to our Roku over Plex.
I just cook his meals and use a MacBook so I don't know much about this stuff.
Any distro recommendations?
Lucas Murphy
Xubuntu
Robert Hughes
Install Gentoo
Dominic Jenkins
Ubuntu, one of its flavors. It has the most support out the box.
Colton Hughes
Linux Mint, Ubuntu
Not this

Windows 10 LTSB

Solus
Jacob Ramirez
Manjaro
Jeremiah Hill

Henry Powell
Solus was one of the ones he mentioned, is it good?
Ubuntu seems likely.
Carson Cook
Solus is good, but it's still pretty immature. I'd wait a few years before considering it for a daily driver.
Go with Ubuntu or one of its spinoffs. Anything else will inevitably be a fucking headache if all you want to do is shitpost on reddit and stream through Plex.
Isaiah Scott
Alright thanks, all talk to him about it.
What should I make for dinner?
Hunter Williams
Jambalaya.
Henry Edwards
Why are you here doing his homework? is he crippled or something?
Julian Nguyen
Chicken and pasta with bacon bits
Jack Jenkins
Ooh, that's perfect. Thanks user. We're going to watch Shin Godzillatonight, I'll make lots.
He's at work and I'm bored.
Oliver Hernandez
Same advice I would give to anyone looking to try out a linux distro. Plain Ubuntu. Not the flavours/derivatives or obscure distro like gentoo/manjaro/Arch/Solus. When you know why you would want to use them, you won't need an advice.
So yeah, Ubuntu 16.04.2 for stability and support. Plenty of info/guides/support all over the web.

Apple removed the X, it's called Ubuntu now

Cute. Post videos of you and your bf :^)
John Davis
I like cooking and I don't like using my willy. Never saw the appeal.
It's tiny and barely works anyways.
I stopped eating oats, sorry brother.
Nathan Scott
Brother, I need these oats. Lend them to me
Tyler Williams
Fedora
Christopher Scott
If we have some I'll let you have them. I've been swapping out oatmeal with a couple eggs for breakfast. Trying to get down to around 100lbs from 116.

why enterprise? You do know that LTSB is better because it doesn't have contana right?

Debian stable is the best for stable systems
Leo Russell
I guess. But what qualities does he have? Does it matter that I'm quite submissive? I know most cute traps like to be dominated but I don't have it in me to do that. My self-esteem is too low. ;_;
Alexander Sullivan
Kill yourself.
Chase Murphy
Depends on the guy and what you like. I'm submissive and like masculine guys. But I know people who switch though. You can definitely find someone.
I have a trans friend who's beautiful, tall, and an exclusive top. Loves submissive boys.
Jack Cox
I don't want to be a bottom, though. Ideally I'd like to be masculine but I just don't see myself getting into it.
I was in an open relationship with a cute girl and enjoyed it a lot. She got what she wanted and I got off on it but I ended up not being able to deal with the shame so I broke things off. We're still friends and that's nice, there are no romantic feelings for her left. But I wish I could be masculine so badly. I want to be a real man. ;_;
Josiah Smith
Stable? Debian Stable. Or Ubuntu (a little less stable). Debian or Ubuntu are your best bet for stability and support.
Jason Collins
Ubuntu, Xubuntu or KDE Neon.
Leo Allen
If you identify as a real man then you are one user. If you're having trouble figuring yourself out don't worry. You will eventually. There's someone for everyone.
You'll be alright user.
Levi Barnes
You are a fag and are going to hell, but I'd like to put in a vote for Xubuntu. It's simple, lightweight and yet easily customizable to have good aesthetics. The only thing I'll say is that you will probably need to set up compton to replace it's default compositing as it kinda sucks. Also you should go with a tasty, correctly prepared steak. Can't go wrong with steak.
Dylan Cruz
I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I've recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called "Linux", and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.
There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine's resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called "Linux" distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.
Ethan Anderson
Sure you posted enough personal information, OP?
Evan Young
I hear hell is nice and warm. How do I get there too?
Daniel Mitchell
Don't worry its inevitable for us all. Anything will be better that nonexistance
Isaiah Allen
TempleOS is your best choice. You can download it at: templeos.org
I would download the iso onto a live CD/DVD, Format the hard drive, and then install the OS.
