I haven't had the urge to get anything new for over a year now. Pretty content with my HE560 for home and some ANC Bose shit for commuting.

are headphones that have their own soundcards with '7.1 surround sound' a meme? waste of money?

also curious as to how long the lifespan of your headsets are? the last two I had shit the bed way earlier than I would have liked (and broke in the dumbest most frustrating ways).

Repost from the last thread:

An audiophool friend of mine was looking to get rid of some lower end stuff, so I was able to snag the SHP 9500's, DT770, and a Fulla 2 for $200.

Pretty new to all this, have I done well?

So far I like the DT770's more after eqing down the highs a bit.

What's the next logical upgrade I should look into?

yes

>SHP 9500
$50
>Fulla 2
$100 + shipping
>DT 770
$150

so not bad.

more EQing

For someone who wears glasses and can't easily wear contacts, are there any comfortable ways of wearing over-ear headphones?
I've got a pair with really soft pads that I can wear for hours on end without my glasses, but as I'm pretty much blind without them, it's not very practical. So, when I wear my glasses, I can hardly wear them for more than an hour because the pressure.

Take a look at the K7XXs, the pads are super soft and clamp force is non existent

Headphones snapped at point in pic related

Headphones before that broke at wire-jack joint (had to wiggle around to get audio. Needed to be held in certain position)

>inb4 take better care of your things
I take autistic amounts of care of everything I own. I dont know how these happened

anything similar to pic related around 120 USD (flexible)? Audio quality of pic related was good enough for me, not too fussy. Must have a mic.

I Just want a STRONG headset that will not break easily.

get headphones with less clamp, softer pads and preferably open-back, too, to avoid killing the bass when the seal is broken by your glasses

Stop buying headsets. Theyre almost all built like utter shit. Hyper X Cloud Core is about the only thing that isnt. Just buy some headphones and get a desk mic or a modmic/boompro.

NO MORE HEADSETS

Hyper X cloud II was the other broken headset I mentioned. Though I suppose the wire-jack joint is pretty weak regardless of headset/headphones

feels bad...

I'm a sweaty weeb from Australia who just had the 2nd hinge of their ATH-M40x's break off rendering them unusable after (just over) a year. As a result I am now in the market for new headphones.

I'd like to spend up to US$300 to get something with somewhat higher sound quality or will just last longer.

I use my headphones to play vidya (weebshit) and listen to music (weebshit and Daft Punk) on my PC and I was a fan of the strong treble and strong base of the ATH-M40x's.

I'd prefer closed-back over-ear to keep from annoying flatmates, but am fine with things bleeding a meter or two to get better sound quality.

Any anons have advice on how to proceed?

Best headphones under $100 coming though

I order from these guys all the time, they're great

Rather than the ModMic, why not the Boom Pro?

One cable and it's cheaper. The only downside is the headphones must have a 1/8" jack.

Gaymer headset lol.

>Philips-SHP9500
im looking into these headphones atm. The point where the band connects to the cups and allows them to rotate, it looks like it may also be a weak point that would possibly break. (Same as my Logitech G35s in the pic from my last post)

Can anyone give their opinion on this? does it feel or look like a weakspot to anyone else?

Why is everything in sweden so expensive or not available, i just want a nice pair of headphones

>how long the lifespan of your headsets are?
Don't have a headset, but ht MDR V6 is sturdy as hell, i've heard of people who have had them for 20 years or so and only had to change the pads.

Unsure. General music and gaming needs. That being said, I'm not so much one of those competitive FPS players (i.e. people that might wish for a perfect 'soundstage' for awareness of where other players are based on hearing footsteps or whatever), it's more-so a matter of single-player games overall (if that affects the choice).
With other people in the house though, the idea of music and the occasional piece of porn audio not leaking out has its appeal.

>Comfort level
Long periods of playing games is a factor. Is anything really uncomfortable enough to warrant choosing lower sound quality in another pair of headphones?

>Past headphones
Some cheap Superlux HD681 with my first PC build, for too many years now. Don't really have anything to compare them to and pick out things that they might've been good for.

U did good but you may want to invest in DT880 (770 trebble is rape) HD600 or AKG 712 (2 of these go on massdrop for 200$ sometimes). SHP 9500 are nice tho

M40X seems to be within you budget, but if i were you i'd save a some more and get HD558 for open-back or DT770 80ohms closed-back.

You seem to have accidentally posted a picture of the SHP9500 for some reason. Here are the actual best headphones for under $100, though, I've got you covered.

HD650s or X2 for gaming, anime, and n word music?

friendos: is there really any significant quality differences in standalone dac outputs over $100 or is it all a meme?

Don't buy a set with a microphone. Make sure you buy phones that either have a removable cord or consider wireless. Bluetooth is great, but isn't compatible with everything.

If all designs were competent there wouldn't be. In reality they aren't and price won't tell you which is. It's still pretty rare to get a downright bad standalone converter. Generally I'd advice getting a device based on its features as performance remains mostly unknown for majority of devices.

Rather than focusing on the content you are using them with, think of what you want. Your choice is dictated by preference to tonality, what you can drive and budget.

how much audio do open back headphones leak/bleed? the philips shp9500 in particular

Id rather not have everyone around me hearing what im doing. Is it just a bit more than closed back? or is the difference significant?

X2
Negerbass for negermusik

very, very significant.

So much that I use open back for gayming because I can hear myself clear as day. People in the same room while you wear them will hear everything.

Significantly more. Moving coil drivers like SHP9500 tend to emit a little less sound to the back than planar magnetic or electrostatic drivers but it still sounds like a little speaker to the outside.

DACs themselves are a meme

That's a meme

Budget is $250. I could get a 650 used for that, and save for a fulla 2, or get a new X2.

My preference is bass and clarity. I play lots of games, so I need soundstage, and watch lots of anime, so I prefer detail. These are my preferences for what sound I want.

With a mic connected to the philips shp9500, wouldnt music or game sound come through very clearly then? annoy everyone youre talking too?

PC 373 it's an HD 518 with a mic

I ripped apart a headphone/mic combo I got from amazon leaving only one earcup as a stand (so it doesn't pick up when I bump the desk) to use it as a desk mic

Currently I have it hung on the wall behind my monitor. Its a decent microphone for basic use.

Just wanted drop in to thank /hpg/ for suggesting M40X with Shure HPAEC840 pads for a friend with ear issues.

They sound pretty good for the budget, and the alternate pads are pretty comfy. Can't wait to hand them over to him.

Why are sennheiser headphones so ugly? The only good looking ones cost over $1000, and even those are plastic shits. Can't they learn to use aluminum or steel instead of chinkshit plastic?

>snapheisers
No
Even
Once

>My preference is bass and clarity
Somewhat mutually exclusive. You can't have it all with the response. Neither headphone is a bad option here I think. X2 is more boomy, has more low bass and an overall warmer tone. It would be very warm if not for the lone treble peak. HD 650 has a broad midbass boost which makes it sound warm, full bodied and to some extent thick.

Soundstage in the extent which headphones can alter it is a direct effect of the frequency response. Neither headphone is exactly worthwhile in terms of soundstage and you definitely don't need it in games. It doubt it does what you think it does. Detail is also just frequency response. The less colored the headphone is, generally the more detailed it sounds. Detail is a somewhat vague term and a certain type of coloration can give an impression of increased detail.

HD 650 is much less sensitive and might need an amplifier for you to drive it loud enough. I say might because I don't know how powerful your whatever device is at the moment and I don't know how loud you want it to be. X2 should be easily powered by the electronics you have already.

No mics don't quite pick up stuff that easy. I've been using modmic with various of open backs without an issue.

Thanks user. I'd give you gold if I could

nice bait

Xiaomi Hybrids, you can't really go wrong with the price.

I was really sold on the philips shp9500 until I noticed it was open back. Any other similar good quality headphones with a closed back and more emphasis on noise cancelling? (For a similar price under or around $120US)

not bait

>noise cancelling
>under $120

I'm considering getting m40xs, how were they?

he probably means isolation

Yes, isolation. My bad

anons told me about KZ ATE. what about them?

How do I decide between open and closed headphones, Sup Forums

bump

Some slow individuals on 4chin unironically use Reddit as a boogeyman.

If you need isolation from external noise, you only have one option: closed. If you don't you can choose whichever. There isn't much to be generalized about their sound. Designs have advantages and disadvantages but these vary a lot depending on the model in question.

The only reason to choose closed is if you don't want sound leaking in while you're listening or don't want sound leaking out to those around you

Other then that there is absolutely no reason to chose closed over open

I have MDR V6 headphones, what would the equivalent be for earphones on the price/quality spectrum?

>Some slow individuals on 4chin unironically use Reddit as a boogeyman.
i wonder why

user, I think it's for the best that we don't know more about your subs. That wasn't headphone related anyway and attempts to discuss Reddit on Sup Forums is truly like opening a can of worms. A can of dumber than average worms.

>Do i need isolation?
>If yes: Closed
>If not: Open

>attempts to discuss Reddit on Sup Forums is truly like opening a can of worms
yeah because standards have dropped so low that it's not universally despised anymore

Sounds like X2 is for you, they have dat BAAAAAS and a big soundstage but be prepared for vocals to take a hit.

Chance of getting any other recommendations for this post if I narrow it down to just open or semi-open?

Let's say the budget's £80-85. Music, games, etc as I said. More of your audio-autism to prevent me from wasting dosh, Sup Forums.

Indecisiveness is hell

How much of a hit do they take?

Etymotic MK5

For me it was quite too much, but bass was also too overwhelming. They are differently recessed, along with a midrange, and were overshadowed by bass. HD600 on the other hand that I got have the best midrange out of all open headphones that I've tried, and the most forward midrange so when music calls for it my waifus scream right in me ears. If you can go and audition both in stores, if you can't, try to find an order online that you can easily return and try X2 first, altho I would rather try HD650 and see if bass is enough but if you are listening to loads of SIMPLE, yeah there is some rap that isn't a simple 2 beats over fuck, fuck you pucci, rap than I feel that bass won't be enough and altho HD650 have a slightly bigger soundstage than HD600, HD600 soundstage is the smallest out of all open headphones in that price range that I know, imaging is pin point tho. What kind of weeb music you listen to? It can range from anywhere to simple idols where X2 may shine to youtube.com/watch?v=MgwSOAoFA2c where OH GOD I LOVE HD600 VOCALS SINGING TO MY EAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARS :3.

Brainwavs HM5

When I said anime I meant like, shows.

anyway, I had the K712, and I hate how boring and flat and neutral they sounded, so I doubt I would like the HD600s.

Aren't the 600s and 650s similar in sound? So I'm not sure if I would like the 650s.

Sadly I can't demo shit. My state is basically a swamp and rebel flag two teeth fucks. No audio stores around here.

I had both and ended up keeping the 650's over the X2's. The X2's bass is way overrated, there's just slightly more than the 650 but it sounds more bloated and anemic.
The 650 handles n word music just fine unless you just absolutely need your head rattled, in which case you shouldn't even be looking at open backs. The X2 might be a little better for chinese cartoons and gaymen (especially if you wanna use it as a headset with a Boompro) because of the wider soundstage but the 650 is better at everything else.

Anemic is the wrong word, I was thinking bloated. Point still stands for everything else though, soundstage isn't enough to make up for every other aspect of the sound.

would you pick the 650s even if they didn't have an amp at first?

I have a pair of LCD-2s that I drive with an o2+odac, worth upgrading the amp/dac at all?

Tried Love Live yet?

Also, if you like absurdly complex vocal work, you might enjoy 志方あきこ's work on Ar Tonelico and such.

Like: youtube.com/watch?v=YTO9DEc4cMU

This shit sounds great on HD600.

If you want more inputs/outputs/other features, or if you want more power for future upgrades, sure. Otherwise no. If you don't believe me, try and find a higher quality amp/DAC to ABX test. Make sure to volume match too with a decibel meter or a calibrated measurement rig.

That's actually what I did. Used them for a couple weeks unamped until I got an O2, it sounds perfect now.

Not him, but do you have a sound card you could use them with? I've been running my 650s through an X-Fi Titanium sound card for around a month, and it sounds good. Ordering my external dac+amp this week probably.

I'm also listening to it using this EQ that makes them more like the Harman target response curve. I posted it last thread, not sure if you saw it before it 404'd. I really like the way it makes them sound.

How does it sound unamped? right now I have the standard Afterglow V1 headset, how much of an upgrade would it be?

I sadly don't. I have a motherboard that has HD audio, but I bet that doesn't mean shit.

Koss pro4s. I'm pretty happy with them, just looking to upgrade.

How are the schiit products? I was thinking about either getting a schiit stack or Jotunheim, is that a bad decision? I have the x2s, but might get a planar headphone pair one day. or one with more impedence

anyone?

They're good, the magni 2 is a very good value. I've heard the nfb-11 is better than the jotunheim and schiit stack unless you want the balanced output though.

I think they're great to start out with for the price as I have the common Magni/Modi 2. I do want to get something different now.

>anyway, I had the K712, and I hate how boring and flat and neutral they sounded, so I doubt I would like the HD600s.
All righty then, I think X2 will suit you more since I feel that HD650 won't be much of a difference from K712 for you. HD650 is basically HD600 but with bit more bass and rolled off highs, I didn't like it since female vocals sounded worse.

>When I said anime I meant like, shows.
So you listen to anime soundtrack?

Last time I checked I had 2 ears, not 8.

Not bad, but look into the NFB-11 instead.

Schiit user here, the thing is, i like my x2s sound signature, so is there any way to preserve that?

what a hard choice. I want good female vocals but I also don't want my headphones to sound boring. how much more bass does it have vs K712?

And I guess.

>trusting a company that released a product which literally blew out drivers
youtube.com/watch?v=tCZ-AJQOiDg

Schiit: worse than chinkshit. Buy fiio, buy O2/ODAC, buy whatever. Just don't by schiit garbage.

>schiit
>a good company

Pick one. They are literally worse than hifiman in terms of censorship. At least hifiman didn't blow out peoples' drivers. Just because they're made in the USA doesn't mean they're not complete pieces of shit scumbags. Don't buy schiit.

Alright, but i would like to get a dac and amp. However, I will not have the funds to afford both for a while. Which would be better to get first. Note: I am currently driving my headphones out of my computer.
