The issue at hand is you can train a weapon on someone and reach for the taser; the taser has no recoil to control, operators are taught to use the red dot for aiming and if it fails you can drop the taser and stabilize your grip on your firearm if need be.

well that's the thing, isn't it - American police forces have a lot of Iraq/Afghanistan vets in them. And more importantly, a lot of police training is provided by private consultants, whose credentials are often simply the fact that they're veterans.

So you have police officers, who're often people that the army rejected, being trained as if they were soldiers by ex-soldiers whose military role often had nothing to do with providing training, and it isn't even the full version but a cut-price watered down version that can be sold to Police Departments as 'genuine military-level training' without actually taking as long or being as expensive.

Police shooting qualifications are easy as fuck. Literal 10 year olds can do it.

If you can't qualify you should just not get a gun and have to wait at least a year to retry.
