first for windows 10 on x220

How much of a meme is a 34mm usb 3.0 card? I heard once you stick it in you can barely get it out and gets hot and you get low speeds.

Seriously, where can I find a battery for the x61t that's actually compatible with the dock

Look on ebay for ones that look like this on the bottom.
I'd offer to sell you mine but I don't trust you and one of the clips broke off in it.

I'll suck yo dick, man

I'm going to buy either the t460 or t460s. Despite being almost 300$ more expensive the s version has wqhd, faster SSD and better materials.

However I read some reports of people saying the 460s trackpoint is shite. Does someone have either of these models?

I have a T460s,

Trackpoint was no problem for me, but have heard others bitch moan about it.

Easily modded to fix if you aren't happy with it though.

I have an x230t, and it seems like my display panel is starting to give. What's the best replacement panel to buy? And is it possible to use one of those 1080p panels that are used in the x230 (non-tablet)?

How do you like it in general, and what made you buy it over the 460?

>buy used stinkpad
>remove stupid stickers
>left with this shit

Time to buy a MBP it seems.

They will blend in after a week or 2 of use.

Just buy a new palmrest on eBay, its like $20

Bought it in January and have used it a lot since then, still hasn't worn down.

Considering it since the palm wrest is also a little cracked. I can only find chinkshit ones though that don't have the StinkPad logo on them, are they any good? Not worth me importing a palmrest from the US to the UK for a cheapo laptop.

Also noticed today the dumbshit previous owner must have dropped it because the display is bent on one side.

Very happy with it, work in IT supp for a large company. T460s are the current staff refresh model which was picked by higher ups purely because it weighed less.

Depending on what your intended use is, it's a solid release, and you seen the edges? I enjoy occasionally running my finger along it.

Normal work stuff, relatively demanding software in terms of memory but less so in cpu. So the reason I'm considering the 460 is because upgrading the ram is easier. I could just add a second 8gb stick instead of replacing the 4gb with 16 (in addition to the soldered 4gb).

Other than that I heard the 460s is really built better

My x220 has screen tearing near the center of the screen when I scroll up or down in my browser.
What am I doing wrong?

What's the best relatively cheap eGPU? I'd do the research by myself if I had any idea where to look

Fuck you.

Didn't enable any tear free options.

mean

Is $300 CAD a reasonable price for a T420s with 6gb ram, 1600x900 screen and a 250gb HDD with a 500GB hdd in the ultra bay? The battery is at 90%

t420 or t430? Leave the keyboards out of the equation

Are X250 and X260 slower than the X230?

Both are garbage, TXXX or kys.

Is X250 a good Thinkpad? I need a laptop for work.

True, plus, at least on linux, I have issues with most devices plugged into the card (they work OK with 2.0 ports).

Txxx?

Best distribution for an X220?

Arch.

I did a google search of 'goat tier egpu' and bought 5 of them
currently playing crysis with twin GTX1080 on my T43p

T430 will have USB 3.0, better processor/graphics and an longer battery but will only use OEM batteries.

If you are fine with a 12" display.

Does anyone have any advice for debadging a Thinkpad, or at least tastefully obscuring the logos?

I removed the palm decal(?), and while I like it more than a logo I'm not the biggest fan. I was thinking of covering the exterior in some type of black tape or sticker.

I think trying to perfectly match the logos would look weird, so I'm thinking about just solid black lines, just big enough to obscure them.

I have black duct tape and electrical tape but think these would wear quickly and end up tattered and gross. Has anyone tried this or implemented something else that could help with my autism?

You can get one of the chink palmrests without the logo. For the lid you'd probably have to cover it up, the carbon fiber vinyl wraps are pretty neat looking

1.) Get a polystyrene sheet and cut to size/shape
2.) Modeling cement
3.) Putty to fill the inevitable gaps around the edges for a smooth finish
4.) Sand it.
5.) Sand it again.
6.) More sanding.
7.) Paint it. Rattle cans are good enough, assuming you get your paint from a model shop and not from a hardware store. You will never get an exact color match, so you'll have to paint the whole thing. Naturally, this means disassembling the computer.

get a chink one off of banggood

Just bought a T430s, does it have horrible battery life like the T420s?

Is the T series a lot more fitting for the 1080p resolution?

T5XX*

Nothin personell but I hope you die in your sleep for debadging a StinkPad.

heresy

Deal of the decade?

My T500's charger isn't working anymore, are 3rd party chargers fine or do I need to find a genuine Lenovo charger for 'best performance'?

Is L430 on same quality level as T420?

This is a joke right.

This has to be a joke.

Thinking of getting a cheap thinkpad to load gentoo on to carry around anyone with an x60, how does it perform? I only plan to do web browsing and programming really

lol no

I just got a T420 touch, love it so far. Perfect for what I needed it for, which was shitposting, porn, coding practice, wating movies, and some gaming (in that order).
Side note- I really didn't think I'd use the touchscreen at all and I actually use it quite a bit. It makes scrolling down pages super convenient when laying on the couch reading/shitposting here.

Carbon fiber vinyl does sound neat

I don't know how I feel about a full repaint but this is a solid plan. I feel like bc it can't be a perfect match I'm almost drawn to a covering in some ways. A faint outline might be better than a tiny black box but I'm not sure.

but just

how doesn't that bring you to orgasm?

Elaborate

I'm not you and only guys with tits make me orgasm.

>270 (two hundred and seventy) pounds for that
Maybe at half that price it would be a good deal.

Go on, find one then faggot.

Fuck no. You can get that for ~180usd where I live (local)

>buy one for half the price from ebay
>drop an SSD in it for pennies

Should I buy a X201 or a elitebook 2560p? Which one offers better Linux support?

PSA

Don't buy IPS screens from bumblesale on ebay. They develop ghosting after 3 months and don't honour warranties.

If you bought an IPS panel for your X220/X230, they all ghost anyway.

There are 4 different panels for the X220 and 2 of them do not have ghosting

They all have ghosting. The T series (E-IPS) panels (SLT1/SLT2) just have much less than the SLB1–SLB3. The SLB3 also has much less ghosting than the SLB1.

delete this

Is there anyway to fix the fan noise on an X240?

t430s best think

Hey guys I have a T61 with nvidia quadro NVS 140M, love this thing so much but I bought a brand new 9 cell battery and it's not charging.... Wondering if this is a common problem and the best fix.

I've tried removing the battery and AC adaptor then holding the power button down for 5 seconds, not sure why I thought that would help.

>tfw my x220 arrives tomorrow, the extra RAM stick the day after, and the SSD on saturday

Am I cool now

also on ebay nearly every preferred panel model listing is going to misrepresent in some way. lot of SLTx "compatible" listings. I just got what was guaranteed to be an IPS (some fools will even try to pass off a TN panel by sneaking in "uhh by the way this is a TN even though we put an IPS model # in the title. it's ~*compatible!*~") and cheapest, and lived with the ghosting

whalecum to the club

>I bought a brand new 9 cell battery and it's not charging..
well send it back, don't you have a warranty of some sort?
or did you buy some chink battery from a guy on the street?

>never actually handled a thinkpad or seen one in real life
>order a t420
>it just came in
Holy shit this is the most beautiful laptop I have ever seen.

post pics, we need them for the testimonials

So I found a local seller selling a T400 with a clean keyboard/touchpad (no signs of wear, no shiny keys), two official power chargerd, a 6-cell battery and a 9-cell battery (this one sealed), and the docking station, for 100$. With a 30-days warranty and the option to test it in person.

But I couldn't buy it because after making a few questions the seller went nuclear and acted very rude for no reason and said I now couldn't buy it.

Jesus...

I am in love with the design. I don't have a battery yet though so its off

Do they make numpads for the t420 that goes in the ultra bay?
I have a friend who wants one for when he's working on excel n shit, but doesn't want an external thing

Tell him to sell the T420 and buy a T520

Just installed Windows 8.1 on a T420 and it's fast as fuck and literally everything werks, battery thresholds, power manager, wireless, everything.
What was the problem again? Why should I use Windows7?

t520 doesn't have a numpad either

Xubuntu

Lubuntu

What's the best thinkpad for a dual sociology and criminology major? For general purpose use word processing, google docs, research papers, etc. Able to have many active tabs open in browser and fluidly switch between for research purposes. Able to play HD video, decent battery life, nice keyboard, and durable quality (I tend to be hard on shit). Do like to watch movies and have an 8 TB HDD filled with anime and movies, but normally connect to TV.

don't really play any games anymore but used to be really into Monster Hunter, Dark Souls, and would play games like Borderlands socially

T460p

>not getting the superior 16:10 T410

1st gen i3/5/7's are comfy. How's the viewing angles compared to the T420?

>1440x900 screen is fucking terrible for viewing angles
>1st gen core i series CPUs that enjoy mediocre performance and shit out heat
It's still an alright machine to work with, but if you're serious about wanting the screen ratio then why half-arse it, just get something with 4:3.

>1440x900
>better than 1600x900

/tpg/'s thoughts on the new x1 carbon? VS t470? which one should I pull the trigger on?

Is it possible to put a T420 in a T410 case? It'd be great to have Sandy Bridge with a 16:10 screen. Alternatively, is there an aftermarket 16:10 screen for the T420?

is there a laptop that's extremely easy to dissassemble (at least to the fans/processor?) because I'm too retarded to disassemble anything complicated and I'm tired of having to deal with secondhand laptops from my mother that regularly reach 100c and blackscreen (with a fresh wipe and windows install mind you)

Every time I install linux, there is always no fucking sound.

Seems the two models have radically different port layouts.
