Why does Windows always become so slow? Now from the moment I turn on the computer for the next 10 minutes after I log in (sometimes even longer than that), the hard drive will constantly stay at 100% and everything is slow as crux. After logging in (which in itself takes almost as long as the bootup process to reach the desktop), the fan will start to whir up even if I don't press a single key for the next 10 minutes. It's at the point where I'm better off going to the kitchen to brew a cup or three of tea. Programs now take ages to load.
Is it even possible to make this Windows install faster or will I have to reinstall?
Carson Williams
GNU/Linux doesnt have this problem

Brother, I've been asking this very same question for 15 fucking years. I'm mostly using Linux now, but it was the very first thing I noticed after installing it. I'd be afraid to use an ssd with windows these days.

You wish.
I installed Xubuntu yesterday and found out that:
-It overheats my PC far more than Windows 10(and that's considering that it is a lightweight distro) -Boot time is slower -Wi-Fi constantly disconnects after a couple of hours, whereas Windows 10 does not -GPU performance is noticable inferior -A large chunk of drivers do not work at all
Didn't even last a day on this shit. Linux is a hobbyist OS.

Wouldn't it be cool if it popped up an ad while spinning your hard drive.

1. You use HDD 2. Most likely faulty 3. The ease of software installation on Windows makes it a magnet for computer illiterate people who install literally everything that pops up on their screen. Such treatment makes Windows slower over time.
I had Win 7 installation from 2009 which I was using until last year and it was running just as fine as on day 1. Learn to use computers, or you will end up like Windows is like a car, if you take care of it, it will serve you well.
Cooper Rodriguez
I reinstall it every few months and this problem goes away.
Not even a clean install, go into Updateandsecurity>Recovery>Resetthispc>Keep my files.
Literally solves it, takes an hour, shut the fuck up and do it.
>Linux is a hobbyist OS.
You spent a fucking day on it, learn to use it before you shitpost.
James Rodriguez
This is normal behavior. Windows is simply hashing or indexing all of your files so they can send the hashes to Microsoft, for your safety of course.
Enjoy using Windows 10 op.
Luis Murphy
linux is a hobbyist OS lol
nobody serious uses it unless you have lots more free time. antergOS is easy as shit anyone can install it but configuring other bullshit is a waste of time + some programs dont run on windows
just a terrible waste of time for neckbeards

Funny how people think it all began with Win 10, whereas Microsoft was accused of spying on users since Win XP. >j-just use Win 7. It doesn't spy on you! Fuck off. ISP, Microsoft, Google, TV, your fridge, CCTV on the street, everything spys on you. Deal with it. Installing linux from binary image won't do any difference. Your UEFI is most likely bugged as well anyway.
Brandon Stewart
>same windows 8.1 install on computer I bought 2 years and 2 months ago >still as fast as when I bought it must suck being retarded

disable volume shadow copies service uninstall antivirus (anti virus software installs a file system driver, your pc can't access anything the antivirus doesnt allow. it's a system driver, you wont see it on device manager unless you unhide system drivers. if you want speed, you uninstall antivirus or disable all real time scan functionality and scan everything manually) disable indexing on anything other than start menu install the latest ahci sata controller driver switch to ahci mode if your sata controller is in ide mode defrag your hdd disable link state power managment on power plan advanced settings

I've seen this happen on different computers, different HDs, even on fresh installs. It has nothing to do with someone's skill level with computers.

When I started studying cs I felt the same After a month with it I didn't want to use windows anymore Now, after 8 years, I cry whenever I need to touch my parents' windows, cannot even SIGKILL a process in that shit, it's windows that decide what's happening, not me
So get used to *nix systems and don't be a faggot

I can disable indexing and other various services that works on background
I can also disable windows updates and download and install updates only when I want
My installation is more than 3 years old with hundreds of installed stuff.
Works like a charm and exactly same like fresh installed OS (i tested several times and then reverted to clonezilla backup)

It has way too much shit loaded into RAM and you have way too many startup and useless services running.
Run msconfig and services to fix that shit.
Finally defrag your ancient aztec technology data storage device.

I had a similar experience. I tried using Linux 10 years ago and I wanted to gouge my god damn eyes out in frustration. I gave it another chance 2 years ago. Formated my HD and installed Ubuntu MATE and never looked back. Now my family tries to ask me questions about their windows 10 problems. I won't touch it.

This started happening to me when I went Windows 8.1 before. Windows 10 still does the same thing but its strange cause it only lasts for 2-3 minutes after start up.
Windows 7 does not seem to have this problem oddly enough on the same HDD and partition.
