Why are you Sup Forumsingers still using plain vim when there's atom with vim plugin?
I see literally no point in using pain vim.
Atom:
Better looking
Normal featues (mouse control)
TONS of Packages (FTP etc.)
and did I mention it looks way better?

Yo I use vim and atom w/ the vim plugin. The vim functionality is half-baked at best. Also, atom is ide-tier slow.
Atom isn't slow on my hardware. Files open instantly, and atom itself starts up pretty fast.
>text editing is pretty fast on my gaymen machine
I want text editing to be instant on all machines. If you need to use a powerful machine to run your text editor quickly, it's a garbage text editor.
Define fast, atom takes about 1 second to open and display whatever I was editing last.
Vim is literally instantaneous.
Is there anything that sits between vim and nano, feature-wise? Also mouse-support?
I don't even have a dedicated GPU so I'm no gaymer. Also for basic editing like configs or notes I use nano. Atom for Development.
I like atom, and do use it on my desktop, but it runs like complete ass on low end hardware. Also once you really learn vim bindings, you'll see why atom's implementation is a joke.
Threre are like 30 vim plugins, are they all bad? I am just using "basic" vim features
>Better looking
nope
>Normal featues (mouse control)
vim has plenty of "normal" features, including mouse support
>TONS of Packages (FTP etc.)
Vim has more plugins
At least come up with legit criticisms.
I use vim-mode-plus which is considered the best one. The author of that plugin though advocates using atom bindings for the more advanced shit.
If all you want is basic vim control, it should fit your bill.
>>Better looking
>nope
yes
Looks like shit
looks awesome*
nice design, reminds me of TempleOS.
One of the reasons for using vim is that you don't have to switch between mouse and keyboard. Also what exactly do you mean by mouse control? You can use your mouse in vim just fine.
>uses only 66% of the avaialble space
Visual studio code is far better.
I can toggle the gaps and still more than you with your shitty gnome
how do you get the status lines flush with the bottom? Mine always has a gap
:set mouse=a
See I wouldn't mind if I could get it like this, but getting to this stage is a gigantic pain in the ass. I have work to do.
Gvim probably
Any actual developer knows Atom is not usable, but if you spend time to master vim, it's very feasible.
In my project, I don't care what you use as long as you are giving the source, so why do you?
Last time I checked the vim keybindings plugin was garbage and only supported the most basic/common of operations. Also, Atom can't handle large files (over a few MB). It just freezes up. If I wanted a GUI text editor I would just use Kate or an IDE.
installing nerdtree and adding the option set mouse+=a isn't exactly a monumental task
I agree about Kate. It's pretty gud. It also supports vi edit mode too.
