Do Germans actually use this?

Do Germans actually use this?

keyboards? i don't think so

US-International ,actually.

correct, in germany we sing rammstein songs to enter text on a computer.

If you actually mean it: Yes, umlauts occur a lot and would be tedious to type without QWERTZ. Also, almost all keyboards and laptops you can buy in Germany are QWERTZ.

Yeah that's how our keyboard look like, and as a programmer I hate it. Parentheses are much less convenient to type.

instead of having dedicated keys for umlauts, why not use alt+A, alt+U, alt+O?
other languages with diacritics do this

>not just switching back to ausschwitz mode when writing to normies

Ö Ä Ü aren't just umlauted variations of O A U that are sometimes used. They are pretty much their own letters. It's like saying "Why have Q as a separate letter when you can just alt+O"

im a programmer myself and i gotta say, depending on what language youre writing in, both layouts have inconvenient characters that are often used, i think theyre actually equal

Unfortunately yes, it's such a god damn pain in the arse.

most people use laptops and most laptops sold in Germany don't let you choose the physical keyboard layout.
even if, not good for their resale value and you can always use some different virtual layout (just stuck with ISO)

I grew up in germany, and got used to it and can't use international layouts now. Ofc some stuff, like the

'

that is often used in english are somewhat hard to reach, but other than that, I have no issues. It's more about what you are used to rather than what is objectively good.

yes
most other european countries use US international except for Belgium which isn't a country and Germany which is still stuck in the 1990's technology wise in more aspects than just keyboard layouts

I bought a chinkpad in germany and I just use US international, it's not confusing if you know where all the keys are

Nice bait.

makes u think huh

>It's more about what you are used to rather than what is objectively good.

Agreed.

t.American

Those often enough are mapped to other things already.

yes, I do, laptops sold here have that layout aswell

Do you still use basic layout or did you remap?

>most other european countries use US international

nope

Thank god that some shops give you the option to get QWERTY though. At least I got the option for QWERTY when I bought my mechanical keyboard.

Yes
Have to change keyboard layout to US-English at work when we're having a support session with Junipers Bangladesh Brigade
Last time I needed to show them something with vim and couldn't find the proper keys anymore, embarassing as fuck

he's outta control
