Getting DOOM to run that poorly is actually an achievement. Great job, eGPU faggot.

>Unspecified resolution
>Unspecified settings
Nobody cares
eGPUs are fine under very specific use cases
You're an idiot

that's a shit result for doom even if ultra

>~60 fps is shit

Go back to bed, Totalbiscuit.

damn you don't know how to set up games graphics wise.

60 is minimum target these days.
120 is tolerable

It dipped below 60. That's shit.

>~

If it ever dips under, then yes. It is.
Not that a mere 60 is ideal for such types of games anyway.

those are the most fucking ineffecient settings I've seen in a while holy fuck. What GPU is it?

Any source in how you did this?

>120 fps
>on a 60hz monitor
but why?

>Not that a mere 60 is ideal for such types of games anyway.
most of the ignorant assholes claiming this are basically as good as someone without hands playing any FPS. Having 120fps won't change how insanely bad they are at it. Same argument for the mouse, they might as well play with a rock tied with a string to the computer and with a GeForce 2 at 2fps.

If you think anything less than 120 fps is satisfactory, you're a fucking idiot.

I play Star Wars Battlefront 1 and 2 and Call of Duty World at War on a ThinkPad T400 running Windows XP. Works perfectly.

make a thread when you get a demanding game to work

>10-30fps jumps all over the place
>in DOOM

yea it still runs like shit user

>eGPU

Pointless. The current gen of GTX 10xx cards are available in laptops. Desktop performance in gaming laptops has finally arrived.

delete

So what is an eGPU?

My 970m is a hearty contender for a desktop replace and does a great job. and it's the 6GB version too

Will usb 3.1 ever be able to be hooked up to a gpu like thunderbolt?

egpus are still relevant because thunderbolt gpu docks are stupid expensive.

Gaymen laptops with GTX 1060 and above tend to be pretty expensive and loud.

I eventually got rid of my eGPU and made a mITX machine, though. It's faster and doesn't crash in some games like the eGPU setup did.

>60hz on a monitor
What decade do you think it is?

it's GPU that you stick into your Notebook with expansion slot to PCIe x1/x4 converter.

It's the decade where 1920x1080p60hz monitors are cheaper than the desk they will sit on.

>120hz monitor paired with a crusty chinkpad and some low tier gpu
pointless

Probably never. USB sucks at latency, has fairly big data overhead and, crucially, requires driver support from the GPU manufacturer (TB, EC and M.2 use the same register and DMA model as regular PCIe since they just pass PCIe lines through, USB is different)

For the curious, did you find out if these crashes were game related, or drivers, or what?

No idea. I had two different cards (GTX 650Ti and GTX 660), two different laptops (Sony Z11 and memepad X230), tried different drivers, but nothing helped. Some games never crashed (e.g. Bioshock Infinite, Wasteland 2), some crashed maybe once in a few hours (anything Gamebryo), some always crashed within 15 minutes (Stalker CoP).

Well, thanks for taking the time

Bad connection most likely.
I only ever saw the pci express lane shit out when I bumped the cables.

>got a 2560x1440 144hz monitor recently
greatest thing ever desu

Install linux and check for pcie errors in the logs.
Maybe your cables are too long.

>Motion Blur: High

>gamercucks
This has nothing to do with technology.

laptops are basically $1000

you clearly have an i7 based on all the cpu cores so that justifies the price even more

then you purchased a full size 970

all to get barely 60fps

cheapest 970 right now on pcpartpicker is $221.61

so we'll round it up to $1500 price cap to build

>used Thinkpad
>$1000

He paid $500 tops, and that's including the extra he paid for the upgrade to the 4-core i7 processor.

with an egpu?
