Student, age 26 Currently busy with my graduation project for a bachelor degree. Still in the research phase but busy learning Angular and slowly building a backend using Rails with graphql (mainly because I don't like the PHP graphql implementations and my NodeJS skills are trash).

I am moving to czech republic in 3 days to start a job as a ip specialist in application support. Not sure what application(s) thou but since they pay well ( at least in white-nigger-european spectrum ) I don't care. Hope it won't bite me in the ass later. 32 winters have passed.

I was sitting at the desk at one of the IBM places in poland thinking that I will die before I will get a fucking raise when I got an email saying that tieto is looking for IT specialist with linux / mysql skills. I applied and they called 2 hours after. Technical interview was pleasant gentleman conversation ( "do you think systemd is production ready?", "what do you like better ifconfig or ip" etc. ). They made me an offer I accepted and now I am bit more scared then excited.
Ethan Allen
What's the pay looking like? I'm an Americlap and I would love to move to a country like Czecho.
You didn't like Poland? Should be a fun adventure for you anyways.
Evan Perry
Well it's a corporation so it's not that easy to say what the pay looks like. From my experience with previous corporations one person can get 2x more the other guy doing the same job. All depends on how much you will negotiate ( skills, how much they need someone with those skill at the moment etc ). I get ~ 1400 usd per mont net. Is it loathable from burgerbro standpoint? They outsource for a reason so I wouldn't be surprised if it was a slave wage in US. Poland is fine but I want I wanted some change and czech seems cultural similar so it's like playing it safe.

I make ~$1200 USD per month working 28 hours a week on Tier 2 support. I suppose it depends on the cost of living there. I assume that goes pretty far over there. I guess a remote job from there would be the best.
If you are really thinking about it the example numbers are rather favourable.
Brody Clark
Where will you work? Ostrava or Brno? If Ostrava I can already tell you that at least 10% of employees in this unit is Poles?
Dominic Morgan
Ostrava. Thanks for the info. It's comforting to know. You have someone there?

IT was the worst fucking career choice but I have no passion for actual development. At least I'm better off than most people I know.

Actually I worked in both of those places. In capgemini as a part of callcenter. Needles to say it sucked big time and I wanted to end my life. Then I move to IBM as a linux support. Pretty nice job but not the salary. I move to ING - and it's a fucking horror show: agile on a production, manager sociopath etc. 6 months later brb IBM and now Tieto. Thanks for offer but I don't know if it will be possible - I'm living near border, not in Ostrava. Moreover, I don't know if I would be good company for you, I'm only 21. Also good to know that somewhere near me there is someone from Sup Forums

CompSci for careers and personal interest and Philosophy for just personal interest. I basically have my philosphy degree already but i needed to finish one more general ed class.

Yeah, I quit everything 4 years ago. I stayed clean for 2.5 years. In the meantime, I addressed some mental health issues through talk therapy and medication(s). I "tested the waters" to see if I could drink socially successfully, and have kept myself to drinking just once/week for the last 1.5 years... I weened myself off remaining meds and have been free of those for about 2 months. It's been a journey.
I did have a professional career, however, that I am hoping will transfer well into IT. I suppose I just worry about the age factor being a huge hurdle. Coming up on 40 and starting into any new path is tough.
