ENIAC was cool i guess.

Athlon XP 2500+ running 98 SE. I actually got hold of a pretty nice purple coloured Palit Geforce 4 MX440 64MB (the 8x variant).

I also got a system for cheap - turned out to be a Socket 478-based Celeron 2.4GHz (Northwood) with 512MB RAM, a 40GB WDC harddrive,"LC-B350ATX" PSU that turned out to be decent (I can provide pictures if needed), an ABIT Siluro FX5200DT (wish I'd find more ABIT stuff), some generic soundcard and NIC (C-Media and "IC+") and a white Sony DVD-ROM.

they've got a pretty good byte archive too
archive.org/stream/byte-magazine-1992-09/1992_09_BYTE_17-09_Photonics#page/n0/mode/2up

Anyone remember these?
web.archive.org/web/20020204194945/http://www.windowsmedia.com/mg/skins.asp

Here's the last archive of the WMP skins page before it disappeared.

...

Let me just say that the original Ford Ka is the most Y2K car ever made.

>retro
>posts Windows XP
kys underage

Sorry if the 2nd link is fucked.
Here's a better archive: web.archive.org/web/20130505015011/http://windows.microsoft.com:80/en-us/windows/windows-media-player-skins

>9GB disk a Pentium M system

>kys underage
>kys
I can smell the irony from here.

IBM ThinkPad G40 I got for $5 at a Salvation Army. Sorry about the image quality, I used my shitty webcam.

The price tag in case you guys are curious.

wtf is the third pedal for

this fucking car, the only good part was the radio desig, everything else was shit
it's called clutch, every non automatic (aka fun to drive) car have it

>pentium M era hardware
>9gb HDD
what the fuck user
my t42 with a 2ghz pentium M has a 40gb hdd and that was the smallest variant availible at the time

Nice, i got one of them.
In one of the past retro threads we talked about its capability with some shit.
this one in particular:
rbt.asia/g/thread/59879916/
Yeah its crap, not gonna lie, why IBM marketed it as a mobile workstation i will never know, the IGP is absolutely trash, the only thing it has going for it is the desktop socket 478 processors.

And even with a 2.8ghz Pentium 4 the cooler is actually good enough to not be a housefire. It maxed at 65c or something under 100% cpu load after half an hour. Without even getting loud too, under 50c its passively cooled.

still using this one. 17 years now.

I'm the same guy who talked to you, actually.

nice. what are you going to do with it?

Probably install Windows 98 SE to see what it can do on the modern web (which of course would require me to install KernelEx). I'll do it once I get the charger and TrackPoint for it.

Also, is it with the original thermal compound?

Well I never changed it, so I presume so.

Id really stick with XP over 98, you'll have no trouble with Firefox or chrome 49 for shitposting on it
A max ram upgrade for it is cheap too.

...

Dear God.

I already have a Latitude D620 that has XP on it.

just install any 32bit linux distro with xfce DE, it's really light

> retro thread
> people posting shit made after 2000

Kys.

Something new I picked up. 41 years old!

...

>retro computer cat will not stand for this newfaggotry

what an ugly pos

80s green monochrome dash ftw

Here's another good one.

And another.

Get at least an 80GB drive.

if you're going to shit on someone else can you at least post a picture of something other than a babby's first dumpster rescue-tier toshiba notebook?

/retro/ threads on Sup Forums are about anything older that does not fit in other threads, if you are so autistic go to /vr/

see
you're a trip fag, you should know better

All the videos on hes channel are great.

This beast with a touchscreen.

I have a b142, I think it's slightly smaller and has a bigger trackpoint, also touchscreen.

You don't wanna know how retarded i looked in 2006 when i tried to put a cassette tape in my car's MiniDisc slot.
>Damn you Mazda for making me look like an idiot!

>>Damn you Mazda for making me look like an idiot!
>it's not my fault i'm an idiot! it's always someone elses!

The original 40GB HDD died, I'm too poor to get a bigger one.

I have a gameboy and some games.

better pic

Pulled this out of our failover data room today, 486DX server, something I had never seen before. This used to run our IVR apparently. It also has two Fujitsu 225MB SCSI drives, which seem to be selling on eBay for a fuckload more than I would assume they are worth.

> TFW fell for 16MB meme

>that mouse
does it get anymore comfy.

ot some ancient athlon from a friend, tried to start it, nothing shows on a screen. Fans spin, gpu fan is also spinning but nothing. Tried removing cmos battery and replacing it, nothing. No beeps or anything.

Any ideas what could be wrong?

Remove ram and try to see if it beeps.

Honestly, I really want one.
I remember seen one back in the day, shiny apple red slick car from future among dirty gray soviet boxes on wheels.

Doesnt beep. Do i need to check internal speaker?

I presume it's connected.

Tried checking if the CPU heats up? Check for any slight burn marks on it. (early Athlons were notorious for that)

Most likely PSU died.
Also, check motherboard caps, especially around CPU socket.

Is it possible that psu is giving enough power for fans but not enough for pc to start? I might switch the psu also

How to check it, cooler is mounted on top of it, dont really wanna take it off? All caps seem fine

I'm switching to Linux from windows xp; did some shit with ubuntu over 10 years ago and I know why I don't want to use linux...

Is this the right place to talk about computer stuff?

There's no other way to check if the CPU is dead.

>I might switch the psu also
Forgot to mention. I never own athlon rigs myself, but I heard socket A models are quite picky about +5VDC rail.

Changed psu, same shit. God fucking damn it, seems like motherboard or cpu. If it were cpu, wouldnt mobo still beep if no ram is installed?

I let fans spin for half an hour, touched cpu heatsink and it's cold as fuck. How do i know if it's mobo or cpu?

...

1991 and 16MB? That's a server for sure already because of that, the case doesn't even matter

CPUs aren't corpses, they mostly still get warm even if dead, that's not a definitive test

Basic?

Not really. I had a dead Athlon 1GHz and at first I thought it was the motherboard. I then tried to run the CPU with no heatsink (out of pure boredom) and found out it was dead. That and the underside had a darkened spot in the center, just where the core is situated. I found that out by swapping the CPU with hope that it will POST, and with a good CPU (Duron 1.3GHz) it POSTed successfully.

>Basic?
>?
get out

You never had a ZX Spectrum, did you?

>didn't get the point
do like that anons motherboard and stop POSTing

>he doesn't get my point
Watch out for your CPU it might go up in smoke

virtuallyfun.superglobalmegacorp.com/

I'll just leave this here.

>Basic?
What kind of a stupid question is that? Did you even look at the picture?

Whoa, retail XP

Sinclair BASIC.

>only Sinclair used BASIC

How to be sure what's dead, cpu or mobo?

Get another (known working) CPU and test.

unless you have an oscilloscope, the only way to be sure is to get another CPU

Oh Fuck. That's nice user, thanks for sharing.

...

I have an IBM 340 and 365XD, both in great condition minus the batteries of course. The keyboard on the 340 is basically a desktop keyboard. Anyone else have some pre-1997 ThinkPads? The 340 feels especially old with its monochrome display.

bump

Is like to get a Pentium 2 or Pentium 3 laptop for speedy threads
My MMX is too old for XP and the Pentium 4 isn't anything special

bump

Check this out...

>butthurt tripfag
ahah, classic

Finally got this working at a proper resolution.

My old laptop, still got it because of child memories. It's broken tho.

bump

Weren't dell's clitmice shit back then?

Do you have a link to instructions on how to do this?

>Black cat wallpaper
Are you a fan of Joel?

A 386 system made by Nokia!
Preparing to do a clean install of DOS right now

Mine wasn't, always ran great.
I even remember the old keygens I had with the retro music.

>I even remember the old keygens I had with the retro music.
Well, that's out of the blue, but very nostalgic

>build retro gaming machine from old parts I had laying around
>first the 8GB Quantum Fireball with Windows 98 SE dies
>then the 80GB Maxtor with Windows XP on it died
>bought a SATA PCI card
>Motherboard can't boot from it
>I'll have to find some PATA HDDs or buy a converter
Not sure what I expected tbqh
And only 1 of the 3 socket A motherboards I had laying around still worked
On the one hand I regret selling off my nice parts back in the day, on the other they were still worth something back then.

>I'll have to find some PATA HDDs or buy a converter
I have so many I'm building pyramids onto unused furniture in my room

...

I know they're still plenty around, but somehow I've ran out of them...
