That article show you more about american sense of comfort than anything

Wow so do Austrians have this too? Because I remember some really awkward discussions there and there too they had to make remarks out of nowhere which I didn't care about.

kek

Germans still have weird people amongst them though. I once saw a hotel that used to be a prison; and today Germans go there and pay to be treated harshly like a prisoner, receive really bad food and get shouted at etc...

Aso I remember visiting a contract company for work-related issues in Saarland. I told a gentle joke, the Belgians laughed, but the Germans kept silent and gave me looks.

I felt quite uncomfortable, but in the cigarette break they came to me, were really friendly and told me they were amused with my remark.

Apparently it is not done to make jokes on work-time there.

>Be Belgian
>make jokes at work
you honestly thought this was acceptable?

He is completely right.
For example try ordering the same as someone else in Germany with the sentence:
"Ich hätte gerne das selbe".
You will be corrected instantly.

>be autistic NEET
>assume no one jokes at work
Nigga u playin' rite?
Americans joke at any job except for big govt, big institution and robotic corporations. Go to any small business and you will see jokes among employees, not stern autists like you.

Big gov worker here.iterally all we do is joke
>This is why you should be anti government

>be person
>make jokes at work
AHAHAHAHAHA HOLY SHIT

Yeah, we do it all the time, nothing mean, just some light humor, it relieves the tension.

Life is grim enough, you spend half of it at work, it should be bearable.

>make joke near an American
>he reaches for his flashlight

i really can't tell if this guy is being a cheeky cunt or totally srs

this is actually kind of shocking, do you have a high paying job or is this just more of a standard working class type position?

It's all true but I still hate people like that "look at me I'm so americanized, these silly Germans haha look at how succesfully degermanized I am can I be accepted now I just looove the sophisticated Anglo humour" yeah we get it.

Shh, don't tell the Europeans or they'll ban light.

>banter with a German
>he replies seriously

the feeling is mutual

I am biochemist; still doesn't matter if I am amongst workers or "middle management".

Let me guess, you are CEO?

who would do that
it's colloquial speech nobody cares

eh I guess it's just another thing to add to the list of differences between Europe and America

how come germans don't have humoR?

Danish influence

life is not funny

>anglo humor
>sophisticated
You don't get ANY jokes, holy shit. It's so foreign to you, you think it has to be this elaborate mechanism you have to formulaically WORK with.

not really

Can you shows some sketch or something that Germans find funny? Subtitles are a must.

I made a habit out of always saying "das selbe", and I get corrected time and time again.

The best German humor is unintended humor like:
or pic related

danes don't really have any influence anyway i guess you're right

...

youtube.com/watch?v=_6baVmWhpqo this hahahahaha

youtube.com/watch?v=d8Bgfqh2TXU this

To be fair some parts are stil funny. It just sounds a bit awkward because the actors make these un-natural pauses to make room for the laugh track.

Sorry that was shit desu.

probably a turk

you just don't understand it

it's funny for danes

>Germans aren't funny
youtube.com/watch?v=Tqd4aPs5WTA

That's just a shitty joke and I wouldn't have pretended to laugh about it either. Maybe just a short haha for politeness' sake but not more.

wtf

It's not like our work suffers because of a light-hearted pun.

I've read stories about a guy getting sacked because he held the door open for a female collegue, and this was considered male chauvinism or something similar.

However I always thought that such a thing was an extreme example. I hope you're not telling me that in the States everyone at work is terrified of saying a wrong word or doing something to "offend" a woman/minority/etc... ?

That would make the atmosphere unbearable.

From the article:

Shortly after moving back to Germany in 2012 [...] I took my kids to the Berlin zoo. The children were two, four and seven at the time, and had already developed a keen sense of irony (particularly the eldest one) – or at least they understood that dad doesn’t always mean things literally, because, you know, it’s funny. So we queued for our tickets, trading silly jokes. [...] we deliberately spoke German, to help us acclimatise to our new home. In a mood of levity, we approached the ticket window.

The lady behind it informed me that the price for the elder two was such-and-such and the little’un was free.
>“What if I pay you a bit extra and you keep them?”
I suggested. The kids snortled and started naming prices that might clear the market.

The lady stared back, horrified. Then, slowly, she leaned forward to look at my children, who stiffened.
>“Your dad does not really mean that,” she said.
>“He does not really want to sell you.”

holy shit that's so true (at least in BW).

Also I hate it when people answer the question "Kannst du bitte ... (Could you please...)" with that "funny" reply "Ja kann ich. (Yes, I can)" without doing anything. It's so annoying.

>Ja kann ich.
I do this if I want to be a real annoying cunt.

>Is there also any non-Jewish comedy in the US?

I remember some french? user telling this story where he? was in a train in Germoney and he was talking a lot to everybody but germans didn't reply back and they were all in silence and suddenly he said "jesus, why are you so quiet? Are we heading Auschwitz?"

kek, would pay to be there

Apparently the woman replied ironically herself. So?
