situation is basically the following: France spends too much on social security and has crazy high taxes, their economy isnt competetive enough to sustain it though. now the government wants to reform workers rights (more leeway for companies in scheduling and firing people), and said workers are chimping out.

that's one way to look at it. Another is that the government is deliberatly making our social services inefective, to then claim we don't have enough money to sustain them and transfer said service to the private sector, making us buy what we already paid for with our taxes in the process.
