It just werks.

Who managed to take that picture? Wouldn't it reboot immediately?

Windows 10(tm), the best Windows yet

im a java consultant, current client is the bank i also have my savings at

i have never had the urge to change banks this badly before. you dont wanna know half of how fucking retarded a bank can be

Proprietary software that they've been running for years and years and years and...

A lot of these systems are configured not to reboot immediately.

every one's gonna be that bad, deal with it

...

That's nothing, the grocery store I work at uses Windows FUCKING Server 2010. One of the checkout stations and two of the self-serves constantly fail and emergency shut down, I get a laugh every time it happens during the middle of a rush and we have to merge two big ass lines together with people fighting over their spots.

a e s t h e t i c s thread?

>Windows FUCKING Server 2010

That literally doesn't exist.

...

He's probably talking about MultiPoint Server, which is flavor of 2008 R2

...

My bank uses everything Microsoft because our sysadmin is an M$ fanboy. He even uses Windows Phone and our company phones have all to be windows phones

That looks like an advertising screen.
It doesn't matter what they use on them.

A lot of companies require every line of code to be checked and certified for it to be considered secure software. Thats why WinXP is used in Airbus A320s

>porn on traffic jam
>it was mirrored from win 7 pc
Based.

kek, we had this too

Hola

>PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
kek, is this what happens when you get a protection fault in ring 0 on Windows?

Is that a guy doing helicopter dick?

no, usually means bad memory

That looks like meat spin, did they get fired?

>bad memory
Wouldn't that rather trigger some sort of ECC error instead, rather than an interrupt?

in large organizations like banks the people who decide are usually not the people with domain knowledge.
management comes to you and says they want that ms azure thing and everything else in amazon cloud like deutsche bahn.
you stand there eyes wide open and ask: " excuse me, do i have a stroke?"
they read or hear buzzwords like "cloud" "iot", get wet and decide. no place for techies.

no if the kernel is attempting to refer to bad memory the entire OS will just shut down

I'd be very surprised if the actual transactions went through Windows computers, but that's just a display. It's a waste of money and dumb, but it's not that bad.

Okay, I see that I'm arguing with a literal retard so I'll stick with my original hypothesis that it's a protection fault from ring 0.

Turns out I was 100% right:

msdn.microsoft.com/fr-fr/library/windows/hardware/ff559023(v=vs.85).aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

Almost all of the self checkouts are running on Windows.

Not in banks.

Ylyl thread?

I lost like 20 times. :--DDD

Who control this computers? Shouldn't it use some software or os just for this kind a things other than using a huge monitor with win7?

>java consultant
Do you drink until you black out when you get home from work hoping that you'll never wake up again?

So it's just a use after free they're trying to catch?

It can be, but it can also be anything else. There used to be a bug in SMB that allowed attackers to inject addresses, which would also cause this. It's essentially a protection fault in ring 0.

Yeah it's meatspin. No, it wasn't an employee, just some random person. Apparently they had left some touch screen interface accessible on some media player inside the unit.

>Apparently they had left some touch screen interface accessible on some media player inside the unit.
So someone still should have been fired over that.

>giving a fuck about a marketing display

banks still use ibm mainframes for transaction processing

> A RAM fault is the fault of the OS.

This board is fucking dead in the water.

The important stuff is all probably running on pajeetsuse, the thin clients all run on Windows though cause that's all tellers can use with their highschool degree. Also who gives a fuck about the advertisement kiosks, those are so far down the critical component list that they could be running Android for all I care

I like where the future is going.

>page fault is a RAM issue
You're a fucking retard.

See

Just because it's at a bank doesn't mean banking is done on it. That's just decoration.

>WHY on earth would you use Windows in a FUCKING WARSHIP??
Oh, yes.

>Just because it's at a bank doesn't mean banking is done on it.
What else are they going to use? Linux?

I do actually, please share something.

Yup, but anyone sees a kiosk with a BSOD they know which OS has failed again. It's happened to them too often.
Oh, that's right! It's never Windows' fault, is it.
Pity Windows can't tolerate a few transient errors without BSOD.

This. Redpill us when it comes to banks.

That's clearly 7 or XP.
Not even sure what 7 blue screen looks like, but 8+ screen look way different

Idiots

actually that looks cool

only when the clients suck beyond anyone's worst nightmares, like this bank

they paid millions for a license to use a core system from an external company to handle the banking stuff

turns out that junk is not just made by retards (all parameters to operations are optional strings, even when they aren't, and booleans are the initials of yes and no in an arbitrary one of 3 languages), it also has no unit tests or anything and they constantly change and break shit without telling people. Their own advisors and analysts cant answer our questions about their api

what's the code for that?

thats just 1 example btw. literally anything you can think of, they do it wrong.

they love to reinvent the wheel. a team of dinosaurs made their own transactional method call framework, fucked it up so much that nobody wants to integrate it into their project because of the overhead, complexity, coupling, and interference with unrelated code like unit tests, and act like having 144 maven dependencies is no big deal or even a thing to be proud of

So how long till the banks get fucking demolished by a fat nerd in his bedroom? This sounds like the perfect cyber rape waiting to happen.

Windows 7 looks like XP and before

It's one in the Kernel

virtual machine environments and framework dependent on windows compatible environments for file and environment management.

Banks use it because FUD in the 90s dude.

youve no idea

any website involving freeware or opensource gets blocked for some reason, including tools useful to developers

but there are no messures against plugging in usb sticks or phones. there is no antivirus besides windows defender. last week management emailed a word doc around and instructed people to enable macros in word to make the doc work right

it's a fucking joke

> WE ARE COMMITTED TO EXCELLENT SERVICE

It's Portuguese.

yeah, that image looks so real.

It really depends on where. This is obviously a display screen in an office somewhere, probably just commercial stuff, so windows is probably not a bad choice here.

Really depends on the country tho. I know someone that works IT in a bank and apparently the security of american banking cards are just laughable.

can anybody identify the JAV code?

No, checked it out.

The backend handling the money is either linux or bsd.
This adverising computer just runs windows.
Advertisement pcs do absolutely nothing other than showing a video or photo, which means that windows litterally crashed doing fucking nothing.

>cool sign

The backend is actually more likely some IBM mainframe shit dating back to god knows when, with the occasional incremental change and hardware upgrade.

>40ms to ping a local address
wew nice network structure lad

>cool sign
medium kek

I work in casinos
Windows Embedded Standard and Windows Embedded CE are the two OSes in use today

>WHY on earth would you use Windows in a FUCKING BANK??

- Step 1: The Microsoft salesman says "We have a full solution for you -- just trust us, we provide a solution to all your competitors too".

- Step 2: The bank IT guy either believes him -- or else he doesn't have the balls to abandon Microsoft and try to craft a full solution on his own using various bits of flotsam and jetsam that he might find in the Linux ecosystem.

- Step 3: Profit (for Microsoft, of course)

>being this underaged

>cool sign
o i am laffin

I suspect this as well. Banks that handle their transactions on unsecure/unknown systems probably don't get too much business with other banks.

a e s t h e t i c c

A display screen isn't necessarily critical infrastructure. Just because this was running Windows doesn't mean the banking activity is being managed with Windows.

Who fucking cares?

COMIC SAAAANS

>huehuheuheuheuheuhe

Most ATMs are still running Windows XP

OH GOD MY MORAL CHOICES ARE NOT CHOSEN SOMEONE GIVE ME A TAMPON FAST!!!1oen

They had to shut them all off to fix the problem. I'm not sure why there even was a touch screen interface, probably because it's "offentlig upphandling" (public procurement) which doesn't attract the sharpest bulbs in the box.

you're retarded.

most slot machines and atms are now windows.

One time I was using an ATM machine and it crashed into a Windows XP desktop.

Luckily it rebooted and I got my bank card back.

Evidently not.
>cool sign
lost

Because all the software consulting firms for banks make Windows-exclusive software and have done so for the past 20 years or so. And do you know why they do it? Because all their clients only use Windows. Really makes you think.

Yeah getting a software job in a business you have a direct relationship with is pretty bad. I work at a company making software that basically controls 50%+ of the telephone/internet grid in this country and it's an absolute shitshow, it's the software equivalent of being held together with gum and rubber bands.

> this

...

>That looks like an advertising screen.
>It doesn't matter what they use on them.
The Avertising Dept would beg to differ.
What appears on the lobby screen reflects on the bank.

>I'd be very surprised if the actual transactions went through Windows computers,
Prepare to be surprised. Many ATMs, for instance, run on Windows. Teller terminals, back-office PCs etc all run on Windows. What else do they know?
Since IBM killed off OS/2 they've had no choice. Their IT people are all Windows dweebs and know nothing else. They really do believe the way Windows is set up is the only way an OS can be.
Luckily, all good banks are into encryption, otherwise nobody would be safe.

this
seen enough pictures of ATMs running
what appeared to be windows 2000 embedded

>Shouldn't it use some software or os just for this kind a things other than using a huge monitor with win7?
Believe it or not there are engineers in this world who use Windows everywhere (thanks Ballmer). It's all they know. When all you have is a hammer...
Where a rational person would expect some version of Linux or even a simple stand-alone application in ROM, there you'll find Redmond's famed BSOD generator. And the fact that you see so many very public BSODs should tell you how skilled these engineers are. Probably just using a hastily patched version of the sample code that came with the display.

There are fucking banks? How does that work? I can deposit and transfer fucks?

>banks still use ibm mainframes for transaction processing
IBM or IBM compatible. Running MVS or its successors.
It's practically a requirement for banks, has been for maybe 50 years.

>They really do believe the way Windows is set up is the only way an OS can be
Or maybe they want professional long term support and stable hardware compatibility, rather than relying on a 14 year old german kid writing driver patches?

>> A RAM fault is the fault of the OS.
The inability to tolerate a RAM error (because you're running on consumer-grade RAM with no ECC etc) is the result of running a toy OS.
Real computers with real operating systems don't have this problem. EG Tandem Non-Stop Systems. Very popular with banks. Until Compaq got hold of them.

Basic shit just werks (TM). Conversely they can write them themselves (or could if they weren't stupid monekey who can only push the button without understanding anything).
Anyway you just have to get it right once, the hardware doesn't get upgraded too often in a ad display screens or ATMs and even if it did its the same change in thousands of devices so it's not a big problem to hire somebody who knows his shit for that, then you just let the monkeys copy his solution.
