Is x265/H.265/HEVC good, or not? I only really care about the quality of the picture, not worried about filesize. My new laptop supports 265 hardware decoding in MPV so I'm considering getting 265 instead of 264 for any future movies I rip/download.

I thought that required savant-level intelligence or dedication in order to get working. The way I heard it described was "By the time it works you won't want to play games anymore."

Why should I use XySubFilter?

Also I can't find the difference between these two pictures; one is with madVR default settings in MPC-HC, and one is using Enhanced Video Renderer (custom presenter) which is the default setting in MPC-BE.

Also why tf does MPC-HC not save screenshots at the video resolution (1920x1036)?

pic related is mpc-hc madvr default

It's also worth mentioning that madVR lagged a lot until I used restore default settings.bat.

What are the list of not botnet updates for win7 and a guide on how to rice it as well as make it perform the best???

Is there a service that allows me to throw paltry sums of money at young white males to develop FOSS support for my obscure hardware and GNU+Linux distro combination?
If not, could one of you NEET losers make one?

you can't compare scalers with two differently-sized images

Managed to get MPC-HC to take a full resolution screenshot, but had to go into fullscreen and use Alt+I.

i must know

different frames

I believe it's gotten easier, but my hardware doesn't support it, so my curiosity has been mostly academic. It's still the best option for most games outside of the steam list, unless you're willing to put up with a dual boot. Linux is probably never going to get the momentum windows has or even the artificial pull that apple creates. But if you're not specific about which games you want, it's gotten a lot better these days.

How do I get MPC-HC to show the same frame? Sorry for being a noob at this.

Subs out yet for that movie?

There are coder for hire sites all about. If you want some one who can reliably and quickly get things up and running for your unique combo of hardware and OS, though, paltry sums of money are probably right out.

Windows puts out an everliving shitton of updates. The only known ones related to telemetry were put out a year or so ago, but microsoft has probably slid a few under the hood since then, and there's really no way to tell. You can look up blackviper's shit if you want to pre slim your install, but that's mostly about reducing the amount of disk space it takes up. There's not a lot you can do to improve performance over stock setup.

I restarted my computer and Universal Media Player won't start anymore. How fix?

yeah, i'm using beatrice-raws and 35mm subtitles.

I can pastebin the subtitles. pastebin.com/JybuZHtb

It's from 1080p 35mm release. saves you from downloading a 4gb file like i did

Yea I'd do it but I'm mostly just playing whatever my WinFag friends play. I'd be content with Dota, TF2, CSGO and Minecraft if that's all they wanted to play, but it's not.

I'm mostly not interested in it until it becomes braindead easy so I don't have an excuse to not use it. I've mostly resigned to the fact that if I wanted to absolutely free of surveillance, I'd need to live in a different country, but I could get something resembling privacy if I had an old thinkpad with like Qubes or something on it and always worked through a VPN.

There's a certain amount of privacy that I'm willing to sacrifice for convenience and another amount is just inevitable, but honestly GPU pass through is still just too much effort, even if I am being really lazy.

you know you can just download the subtitles separately. It seems like 35mm is just a simple R1 job. I'll wait for the proper subs. Thanks anyway.

I mean if you've got the hardware already, you might as well fuck around for an afternoon and see how far you get. You can always restore from a system image. If you really prefer linux for 90% of your shit, it might be worth it just for the performance/awesomeness bump.

proper subtitles from amazon UK are already out but they're shit

How much are we talking? I consider $49.99 the upper limit for paltry.

They're not proper then are they

On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the best, how would you rate this?

>$199
>Intel Core i5-2400 3.1GHz Processor
>8GB DDR3 - 250GB SATA Hard Drive (5400RPM)

Keep in mind that I'm broke as fuck (can only afford $250 max). And this is a Refurb unit.

amazon.com/Dell-OptiPlex-790-MiniTower-Refurbished/dp/B01HTSQFBI/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1495594780&sr=8-6&keywords=mini tower dell

Unless that's per hour, you're better off doing it yourself, rather than getting cheap "help."
What are you trying to do, anyway?

You can do better. Craigslist is alright if you know what you're looking for. 9/10 of the time they aren't a rapist.

What do you mean by "proper subs"?

ones that aren't shit

How are 35mm subs shit then?

I'm not American so I'm not really willing to trust a Craigslist user to follow through with a deal and ship it to me. I'd much rather have it handled by a company like Amazon.

Wow, sweaty weirdos are way more expensive than I expected.
>What are you trying to do, anyway?
Use GNU+Linux without having to make changes to my lifestyle, learn to do anything, or spend a lot of money. Seems like a bit of a crap chute now that I say it.

Yea I might. Biggest obstacle is finding the motivation these days. I can't find the motivation or drive to anything anymore. Whenever my friends aren't online I just do creative writing to alleviate the boredom.

I really can't be bothered to care too much about what OS I'm using as long as my stuff works and I can't feel the NSA breathing down my neck. The NSA spying is kind of inevitable at this point, I guess I'm kind of just aiming for the sweetspot placebo where I think I'm at least trying to avoid the botnet without actually giving up my convenience.

so my gpu got a dvi d and a display port 1.4
and this old monitor only got a vga port
how do connect
halp

without having to make changes to my lifestyle, learn to do anything, or spend a lot of money.
The classic engineering choice: here are three things, pick two.
You can adapt to the software available on Gnu/Linux, learn new things and spend little to nothing.
You can use the available software, spend a lot, and learn nothing.
You can learn a lot, spend a lot, and use the software your used to using.
What software is indispensable for you?

I hear ya. Motivation is a fickle friend. Some times I can't even get it up for games. But somethings gotta give eventually, right?

Mostly I just find linux nicer to use in general, but if you've been learning all your tricks on windows it can feel like a step backward at first.

I'm trying to reformat my computer that was running windows 7. I don't have my installation CD and I'm thinking about just upgrading to windows 10.

Is it possible to torrent windows 10, put it on a usb and then reformat my computer using that?

They're R1.

amazon.com/HP-AS615AA-Displayport-VGA-Adapter/dp/B0025ZUF8K

pastebin.com/smjvLZN4

No they aren't. It came out before official retail subtitles came out.

Why do you get the notion that they're R1 anyways, and what's wrong even if they are R1?

I need a new phone.

I want a new phone with VR so I can watch PoV porn The Way it Was Meant To Be PlayedTM.

What phone should I purchase in order to do this?

I mean, I can use both competently. It's really not a question of which I'm better with. It boils down to compatibility with software I want to use. I tried to move over to Linux for a while and had a decent time of it, but my old shitty computer didn't handle wine well and GPU passthrough was still a novelty and kind of horribly documented.

I'm hoping someday VR/Brain scanning gets good. I'd honestly throw my life away at this point to get a shot at the Jumpchain CYOA game that's been occupying most of my writing. It just feels like putting in more than the minimum amount of effort into life isn't worth it.

In addition, it literally states here that it's original.

nyaa.si/view/925156

>got a virus
>got rid of it
>tons of folders left behind
>mostly empty, with a few text files

Can I just delete these like any other file? They're annoying the heck outta me

There's no particular software that isn't replaceable or on Wine, just weird "plug and play" things I plug into my laptop like multi-disc burning towers, electronic keyboards (the musical kind), and what-have-you that Linux just has absolutely no idea what to do with because they were designed with Windows and sometimes OSX in mind.

>they're original subs
My bad. But I'll wait on proper typesetting.
>what's wrong with R1
No quality control. Official subs and official manga translations have been inferior since the dawn of time.

How long are you willing to wait though? There's nothing wrong with waiting, but idk I sort of feel that 35mm is the best we're going to get unless some other fansubbing group picks it up.

Is there a good manga reader on Android?
Bonus point for Open Source of at least proprietary but no ads.

I think the problem is you have to be putting in a certain amount of effort already for things to not feel like that. It's the same thing that makes it unusually hard to kick an addiction. The stuff that would help pull you out is the same shit you won't get near until you've already been working at it a while. The human brain just isn't good at fixing this kind of shit.

Thank you so much. I'll see if I can figure out how to do this all.

I have one more question: I have a USB that is currently acting as a windows 7 cd. I want to wipe it so I can make it a windows 10 cd. How do I wipe it?

Tachiyomi

Honestly, you're hosed. You can search online to see if the hardware you're using has already been supported on Linux by some one, you can beat on the manufacturers for support, or you can pay through the nose for people that can reverse engineer the existing drivers for Linux.

A simple format would work. Or just let the w10 media creator do it.

It's roughly half the filesize for comparable quality to h.264, so if the filesize/resolution is similar, the H.265 rip will look better.

For what use case? Would you have any budget to do upgrades to it?

I think I'm understanding that experiment now, where they provided the mice with all the shit they'd ever need and then the population ballooned to a peak and then all the mice became apathetic and stopped the instinctual survival behaviors and the colony died out.

And that ties into the pyramid of needs. I have all my basic physical needs being met, I can't self-actualize so I feel like I'm stagnating and I'll just die off. I feel like it'll get better once I finish college and get a full time job I actually care about.

I guess I just need my friends to be happy more than I think or claim that I do. It's times like this I almost wish I had a desperate need for acceptance and a complementary follower complex that would make me do things to actually self improve instead of just working a dead-end IT job for the experience and money and then coming home to shitpost and play Vidya whenever is convenient for them.

I guess I'll just write letters to the various Chinese nerds and keep sucking up to the Jews in the meantime while I pray no malware fucks up everything.
How the fuck is this a hobby for some people?

I just downloaded and looks great, thanks.

can you guys recommend me a quick and light gnu/linux distro to do some torrenting with? im familiar with fedora 25 workstation and would use that + installing vuze but less resource usage is really preferable here

there's no operating system on the system right now, it doesn't have to be a live cd or anything. i dont want to spend a whole bunch of time getting it ready either so while >install gentoo + rtorrent would be light on resources eventually it isnt really an option

That's a perfectly solid web-browsing and word-processing machine, they're designed for offices and 8 gigs of RAM will let you do a moderate amount of multitasking. That HDD is going to fill up if you download series or BDRIPS though and it's not fast enough to do video editing. If you like dwarf fortress you're going to love it but you're never going to get a card in there that can play the witcher 3 because it doesn't have a big enough power supply and the case won't fit a standard sized one.

Where can i look for database learning?
No bullshit, i want it from the get go to teach me everything i could ever need

A cousin of mine bought me the gear vr and so far everything looks like shit.

I can wait for decades. I've got a backlog to go through

Puppy is hella light if thats what your goal is......but imo id do a mint or ubuntu......not super light but they are litterly plug and play

I hear ya. As a kid they never tell you that change is like the holy grail of adulthood.

>How the fuck is this a hobby for some people?
They're as passionate about fiddling about with things until they work as you are about using those same things to do some task with them.
>malware
Backup your work. Have three copies, on two different media, with one copy kept off site.

Mostly programming/development. I already have a monitor so I wouldn't need to spend any additional cash. No room for upgrades right now though.

Thanks for the tip. I eventually plan to make upgrades when I can afford it but based on what you said I guess this isn't a great option in that regard.

I guess I'll just use a cheap used laptop until I can afford a proper rig. Thanks.

Yea.Spice of life and shit. I just feel so decidedly average and it hurts my soul even if that statement was (I don't think it is) false. I'd up the stability of my life now if it meant hopping onto the Jumpchain and going to just about any of my favorite series and fucking around for a while before going somewhere else.

Back on topic, after I reinstall Windows on the SSD, would it be worthwhile to reformat the drive I'm currently using or can I just delete the windows folder to free up space? Just trying to save myself the effort of copying over the minimal media and contents of the drive over if I can just delete windows and be done with it.

Literally anything if yo can figure out how to install your torrent client. Basically what said. Ubuntu and Mint are utterly braindead by linux standards and have good support for end users.

Yeah, you can just delete the system files etc you don't need any more. There's no reason you would need to do a full format to a drive you're not installing an OS to.

How do I disable/delete Java on Linux Mint? I tried to find it on my system, but I couldn't, even though Whoer says that it's there.

>but if you've been learning all your tricks on windows it can feel like a step backward at first.
people who know their shit with windows typically have a harder time than people who don't really know much about any OS
it's a bit of a shock to find out their "computer skills" are really just "windows skills", and much of it doesn't directly translate over to linux
regardless of how good you are with windows, when you first start using linux, you're pretty much back to square one, and this puts a lot of people off

Am I retarded or does this actually mean anything:
>print document from Word 2013
>occasionally takes over 1 minute to create print data and start printing
>print document straight from pc (photos) or from Google Docs
>takes 1-5 seconds to create print data

word documents require rasterising, photos don't as they're already rasters

Yea that's what I figured. I was thinking about some meme with the boot sector/partition or something retarded like that but if it's not set as the boot device that's irrelevant. Sure I'll be wasting the tiny space where the bootloader would go but it's fucking miniscule in the context of terrabyte drives.

This exactly. I always get tripped up since all of my command line skills I got in Linux. It takes me longer to do anything in cmd than it does in bash because Windows command line tools and syntax are different from bash. Any actual scripting in Windows beyond one liners and other similarly simple snippets is beyond me since I never need it and whatever I do need scripts for it already exist.

I dont even.

I feel like I'm being electrocuted by my laptop.
Is this a thing?
It's a t420 if that matters.

Yeah it is. I wear indoor slippers (not sure what they're called in English sorry) to make myself grounded.

some people really need to learn to find same/similar items to gague how much people are willing to spend on an item

the only way you're selling a cd writer for $100 now is if it's for some obscure machine
a common, late 90's ATAPI drive doesn't cut it, these are by no means hard to find practically if not actually free

>indoor slippers
slippers?
i haven't heard of outdoor slippers, the closest thing that comes to mind would be jandals (also known as thongs or flip-flops)

What is the best alternative to Xender on Android? It has become adware trash over the past two years. Transfers have become slower, probably so that they can show more ads.

Your electrical wiring probably has improper earthing/grounding. Check with a licensed electrician.

So I am mid build and am about to install a 140mm fan, but I can't see the screws to install it with. Do additional fans usually come with the screws, or do I need to buy them separate?

>monitors went black
>fans span up to max (I'm assuming GPU fans based on the monitors turning off)
>restart pc
>"Your pc has crashed yadda yadda, your CPU clock speed has been set to stock speeds"
so is it my GPU being shit or my CPU? both are old and I've had issues with both due to OCing

nvm I found the screws

Which is closest to processor?
>A) Assembly language
>B) Instruction Set
>C) Syscalls
>D) Java library

Database learning? Just learn SQL from w3schools and you're set!

I'm joking, the above is bad advice. Check out db-class.org.

Instruction set
t. non-programmer
>I know a very tiny bit since I'm a security major
>Java library is far removed from the processor
>Syscalls are something that the program does to get something done
>Assembly language is a low level language that takes little effort to translate into actual work done by the processor
>Instruction set is something specific to the architecture or some shit like that.
>I don't know what I'm talking about

Sometimes on games ( on linux ) cant Alt-tab to other windows, there is a way to force to show the desktop with only the windows key?

(im on xfce4 btw)

maybe, though what i do is just run everything in a fullscreen window (that is, a window that is equal resolution to my monitor, which most window managers treat as fullscreen, with no borders or tray visible)
there's no downside to this like there is in windows, compositor indirection still works, and so does v-sync

s/indirection/unredirection/

It's called anchoring.

That's normal.

Has anyone ever heard of bugs, in my case centipedes, messing up computers? Do I need to do anything to bug-proof my tower pc if it is sitting on the floor, or should it be fine? There are a lot of centipedes in my house...

How do you even get a virus? I try but can't.

try ctrl alt d

Ants can get in it. They're attracted to electromagnetic shit. Keep your place tidy so you don't get ants. Don't touch centipedes and spiders. They eat bugs, which are getting in if they are. If you remove centipedes and spiders, they won't be removing their prey, and then you'll get more bugs, followed by more centipedes and spiders coming to eat them.

What's an inexpensive capture card to stream console shit to twitch for a couple friends.

What is the difference between RAM and pagefile?
