Dumb smugposter

>using packages older than time itself on a desktop computer
>"being productive"

What does "rice" mean in the context of OSes?

>relying on the debian "security team" to fix vulnerabilities

Use testing or unstable

Everytime someone mentions Debian, someone mentions it's old. Are you guys really this new or why you don't know about testing/unstable which is modern enough?

I unironically use stable. I don't get the appeal of muh bleeding edge. I can think of maybe... three packages where I've needed something newer than what's in the repos. And for that there's backports or just grabbing the source and compiling it yourself.

Ewwww, debian has systemd, and SJWs.

If you are fine with stable, then of course you should use it

My point was that every time someone mentions Debian, they call it too old. Are they not aware of unstable or testing?

It's part of the bait, since Debian testing has no real drawbacks compared to, say, *buntu or Mint, they have to find something to shitpost about.

I won't argue if you mean just stability

Why are Debian libs so out of date?

You can't even use peoples code because they always require newer versions!

The answer, of course, is that its a freetard extremist distro that isn't meant for desktop use and should be relegated to the OS of food service industry scales and camera security systems.

It means you install as much asian software and have as many folders with chinese cartoons as possible

OR I could just use a different distro.

>He doesn't know about backports
Ladies and crossdressers, this is neo-Sup Forums

Debian stale

THIS

The only reason Debian is stable is because it's outdated. Why use testing or unstable then? You'd just get the same "unstable" shit you get with other distros.

Off yourself, tripfag

>not filtering them using the conveniently included tripcode

This.
using Debian 8.8 jessie stable right now.

>he wastes time making shitposts on Sup Forums about how "productive" he is

>Ladies and crossdressers

>Not knowing about testing/sid repos and glorious apt pinning for maximum control
Go back to arch

Other than having shit security and freeze phases that last few months and basically force you to switch to something else or to unstable, no it doesn't.
Just use ubuntu you retarded newfag. You are not impressing anyone by using plebian, other children at your college don't even know what lunix is, they will not judge you.

You don't fucking know what stability means.
Fucking Arch can be just as stable in the sense that nothing crashes.

What stability in Debian and RHEL means is that ABI is stable and patches and features are backported without breaking it. That means if you compile a program for Debian 8 when it came out, it will run just as well on the day it gets end-of-lifed even after all those patches/updates.

FUCK OFF WITH THE MUH STABILITY MEME ALREADY

>Arch
>Stable
Are you even trying ?

fuck u widow
mercy best grill

>debian
>two year old stale packages with no features
>laptop overheating/rapid draining
>have to fuck around with visudo
Fedora is the only choice you dumb nigger.

thing is my guy why use a fork to cut something when there's many knives out there. Debian is meant for stable use not bleeding "testing"

What about the best Arch kernel you dumbfuck
base-devel-lts
it delays shit by like a week like Manjaro, ensuring perfect stableness.

But I am. I am considering a switch to Slackware or CentOS though.

Oh please! If anything, openSUSE has the best testing procedures ensuring maximum stability even for the bleeding-edge rolling Tumbleweed.

>using a gnu/linux workstation

Mein amigo are you high

Linux servers, Windows workstations

>Debian
>stability
take one Slackware and call me in a month

I'm not using a distro that refuses to do dependency resolution for me.

fuck off archfag
Swear you guys are the reddit of ditros

>slapt-get does deps
>gslapt does deps
>sourcery does dep
u a dumb

>debian
>stable
>dev kills himself after 14 years
The software might be stable but you aren't.

>not using Debian Sid
Embarrassing desu.

But i riced my debian

I used to run Gentoo on all of my machines, and it was fun while I had the patience for it. I also learned a ton by breaking shit.

But nowadays I just run debian on everything.

Main reason is, it's easy to write ansible roles for debian-based systems, there's plenty of frameworks and helpers like debops.org/ which make it a blast.

I still sometimes feel like I miss the ability to easily compile anything I want in any version I want with any patches I want, but ah well.

Stability and compatibility is more important for me now.

Also, AWS EC2 has a wealth of debian AMIs.

Windows 7

>He likes the swiss healing slut
I'm so sorry for you user...

So this is what autism looks like...

kek

Only posers fight over distro. Real niggas care about DEs.

But I am confidently using Ubuntu 16.04. The most stable GNU/Linux distribution that there is

>smug generation loss

Slackware > CentOS > Debian Stable > OpenSUSE Leap

last week unetbootin on debian unstable didn't even work (blank window)
>unstable distros
lmao

>unetbootin

is this 2005

If I wanted productivity, I'd be on Windows.

too many games to distract me

gotta get that golden pachimari

Wait what?

Arch is stable, you can fuck right off. Been using it for two years, and I upgrade every other day, or at least once a week, and I'm always sure to check the archlinux.org front page before doing so to see if there's a problem with any update that requires manual intervention.

That is the extent of any "maintenance" I have had to do, and I have had zero problems with this as my main system for two years. Why are there so many tech illiterates on Sup Forums who pretend like Arch is difficult to use or install? The official installation wiki is just one page of instructions for fucks sake

>using anything other than rhel

arch has frosted-tip-hair hobbyist developers

First of all
>LURK MOAR REEEEEE FUCKING NEWFAGS
Second of all
It means you customize it to the fullest extent

if this is true I will format my arch partition right now and install gentoo

How about security updates and patches?

>mercy

Calm down you fucking autist.

>productive
>no oob wifi or non free software

bunsenlabs is the comfiest of all

Fuck off Moon2

>not using ethernet
>needing nonfree sfotware

>productive

dude

I don't "produce" anything on my computer

nobody on Sup Forums does

it's all a meme

>using the product of mentally ill racist (((Ian Murdock)))
No thanks.

>why u not use dabien it stabl bro
>just use dabien unstabl ar u stupid

Don't you know how linux works?

Of course there is security updates in stable, just not feature updates.

/r/unixporn

You can use devuan

> nobody on Sup Forums does
THIS is the real meme. Computers aren't as expensive as cars or guns, but still, you need money to buy and maintenance them. While we're at it, why not work with something you like? So, this is how some of us end up working in IT while still on Sup Forums.

>why not work with something you like?

Because I might become to dislike it then. I like computers and tech as a hobby, but for money I drive a truck

>tfw running unriced Arch

>not running RHEL

I don't want to have to upgrade every other day. "Stable" means that most days, there should be no updates and nothing should change. When there are updates, I should be able to just install them without checking the website for problems or doing any fix-up work. After the updates are installed, I shouldn't notice whatever it was that they changed, because they shouldn't be making major changes, they should just be patching security holes.

None of this describes Arch. Stuff changes all the time in Arch. Sometimes that stuff either breaks, or you have to go figure out if it'll break something and do something so that it won't. That's why Arch is called "not stable" and too "maintenance intensive".

Sorry but PPAs are just too convenient.
