This thread is about the appreciation of horology, as well as the micro-engineering and materials engineering that are required to make a fine watch, clock, or other timepiece.
Yeah, looks big in that shot for some reason, looks more appropriate in person. 40mm is pretty much my max size.
Jaxon Ross
Ok that pic looks better. It has a nice finishing mate
Landon Ortiz
Indeed, I really was not expecting it to look so decent for $50.
Elijah Cox
Quick rundown on pre-trib rapture?
Jose Edwards
camera distance is causing a distorted perspective
not horrible looking imho
Levi Rodriguez
Someone recommend a strap/band for this $24 cheap watch I got off ebay. 18mm
Luis Baker
Same
Camden Price
One of those red white and blue natos would probably look neat.
James Cooper
Man, the SARB looks good.
Joshua Wood
A simple $1 navy blue nato strap from aliexpress, the only real option for that. The watch is so colourful itself that the strap doesn't need to be striped.
Jackson Reed
Are the Seiko 5 series any good?
Jose Hill
Yeah.
James Bennett
Very cool
Ethan Bell
Thoughts?
Cooper Murphy
I prefer this to all other divers, even the Rolex Submariner and I don't even know why.
Luis Gutierrez
Sexy but overpriced. And the Omega $200 nato strap is ridiculous, good quality yeah but nobody is going to notice the difference between that and a $2 strap.
Dylan Jenkins
I think I prefer all the Tudor designs over the similar Rolex ones, actually.
Ayden Mitchell
>I don't even know why. Because you have taste, my friend.
Daniel Moore
Because Tudor is better than Rolex.
Dylan Young
Thinking of buying a tool set for changing links, does anyone have one they can recommend?
>holy shit people are paying millions of dollars for a Rolex 5517 >hey lets do a special edition of our British Navy And people wonder why Omega resale values are shit.
Ryan Cook
Good is relative. They are very good, for their price. Most likely the best for the price.
I'd recommend just saving up for a SARB, but they are great beaters and cheap, it's kind of a why not.
Lucas James
Phuuuuck me dead I want a SNA411 so bad. What does /wt/ think of it?
Elijah Roberts
Forgot pic
Julian Torres
Too busy for me, but it looks alright
Ayden Foster
test
Lucas Phillips
Dressy as fuck.
Christian Stewart
About to pull the trigger on the snk891 as a daily watch. Not many choices < $100 AU for small wrists I'm afraid. I'd kind of prefer a Eco drive movement but that's a bit over budget at the moment (poor student}.
Christopher Barnes
>I'd kind of prefer a Eco drive movement but DON'T SUMMON THE ECODRIVE TROLL
Daniel Wilson
Decent watch, but not my style.
Alexander Gonzalez
>r/watches I threw up to this pic.
Lincoln Sanchez
I personally like it, will probably pick one up at some point.
Jordan Morris
What do these people think when they buy watches?
Are they like this: >hmm, what a nasty ugly chinese shitter for only $250! And I have only 5 of them already! Le shut up and took my le monies XD
Jason Evans
>wastes his time going to a site he doesn't like only to gather pics to post in his circlejerk thread and make fun of them
I really do pity pathetic freaks like you.
Wyatt Martinez
spotted the mall shitter dude
Cameron Howard
/wt/, post 3 from your collection. - Ch^3 - Fortis B42 Auto - Squale 1521
Owen Ramirez
I haven't got anything sweet, but I'll post my Timex and Spaceview later.
Chase Myers
Where'd that blue (ostrich?) strap come from?
Xavier Russell
>Squale How's it going Tristano ;^)
Thanks, Sincerely user
Michael Murphy
I really like the blue squaleleleanies
Kayden Martin
>this kills the [Overpriced Luxury Timepiece Brand] Hadnt really talked to my new gf about watches, but she was really fascinated in the mechanical movement when she saw it by accident. My last gf didnt give a shit about watches.
Why havent you upgraded your gf Sup Forums?
Colton Cooper
implying I'm even interested in 3dpd trash
Ethan Gomez
My girlfriend isn't really interested in watches, but I gifted her a watch and she took out links by herself.
Caleb Perry
My missus loves the Casio F91-W so she's got almost every colour. She really fancies an automatic watch so I'm trying to push her towards Rototary rather than Fossil
Are any watches made in house if they are only $300-$500?
I don't exactly have the money for an Oyster yet but want a nice non Chinese made one
Jaxon Campbell
I was just reading up on the Seiko 5 movement and now I'm kind of retreating from my decision to buy a SNK809 as my first watch. It seems the movement is really old. Are there similar Seiko field watches that might more expensive but have a better movement? They'd have to be a similar size too due to wristlet.
If I can't find it I might just pull the trigger on the Citizen BM8180 instead
Anthony Powell
Buying an apartment in cash in the coming months. Which watch related items should I buy for my new apartment?
Jayden Gonzalez
Chinese bullshit and maybe Seiko, depending on your definition of "in house".
Noah Adams
>Are any watches made in house if they are only $300-$500?
Seiko. Won't be china made, but at worse it'll be malay-made (under the watch of grorious nippon worker).
Ian Taylor
A wall clock.
Anthony Harris
What fucking NATO and where can I get it? I've been looking for a black/yellow one for ages but can't find anything in 21mm.
Jackson Morgan
My "new" Favre Leuba Sandow. Basic 17j Swiss movement from the '70s, I also like the angular case design and the fact that it's decently small and thin.
Legibility is high, the polished gilt hands contrast the sunburst dial.
Not bad overall, considering the price I paid (~42£ at eBay auction).
Easton Howard
I like it, user.
Jackson Sanchez
not that fond about the colours but the shape is pretty rad
Aiden Miller
Is SeiyaJapan a reputable site? That seems to be the only one that has a SARB
Yes. Bought this buckle from them not long ago actually. Planning on using it on a croc strap for my lord marvel.
Carter Cooper
>It seems the movement is really old It's 500 fucking year old technology, it doesn't go obsolete all that fast. Movements are commonly used for decades.
Gavin Moore
Nigger what? Just buy it on amazon.
Eli Martin
Nigger who cares? It's a 5. Wear it as a beater and be happy like everyone else. And what user said, watches aren't the tech field. Not everything has to be updated so God damn often.
Austin Nelson
Anyone have good or interesting insight on wall clocks or deck clocks?
Brandon Flores
The accutron desk clocks are pretty sweet, but they cost accordingly.
Henry Jenkins
I have one of those on my wrist. I'd love to have a nice big one.
Angel Cook
If you can afford it, they're great clocks to have.
Jordan Torres
I wanna open a 6-notch watchback but have no rubber ball, wat do
Dylan Allen
I believe it. Though how often do you need to get a clock serviced? As often as a watch?
Nicholas Martin
Get a jlc Atmos
Parker Powell
Use needle nose pliers
Eli Scott
Really, it depends; clocks aren't going to be banging around as much, so servicing isn't usually as necessary as it is with wristwatches, but they still require servicing from time to time like any timepiece.
Jace Sullivan
I know Seiko is a great low price brand but how is Orient? Do they pool any expertise from Seiko or is Orient its own thing?
Joshua Diaz
Both.
Brody Adams
$2 aliexpress strap makes me feel nervous
Sebastian Gutierrez
Is $1000 a Bermuda Triangle of watch ranges? I can't really seem to find any watches listed there
Christian Young
There's the SARX line.
Jaxon Cooper
complete newbie lurker, how does this thread honestly feel about apple watches?
Colton Reed
...
Anthony Nguyen
If you study ANY electronics or circuit repairs, even on youtube, you can tell that these things are overpriced garbage. If that peice of shit is anything over 30 dollars, kill yourself. Knowing apple, its probably 100. I didn't check because i dont give a fuck.
Its a ball-less nanocomputer with very little real world application, other than to let others know you swallow cum to pay for Steve Job's yacht.
Aiden Jones
I hate the strap on the Squale, but everything else looks really great.
Cooper Myers
>its probably 100
Try $300, minimum. :^)
Angel Russell
Same thing for mechanical watches honestly
Justin Ross
SARB035 or SARB017?
Landon Davis
Whichever one will attract more qt girls, of course
Ryder Anderson
SARX033 :^)
Henry Young
SARB021
Liam Ortiz
both and it's not even a choice.
because you can find the SARB033 for a steal on watchrecon, and if you look hard enough you can also find the Alpinist for a steal too (but they go quick, so keep your eyes open).
Owen Lee
my god that's gorgeous... why haven't I heard of this until now?
Jack Young
Because it's discontinued like all the good SARBs
Eli Williams
It looks like it's discontinued. That's probably why.
Christopher Long
They're really useful, just not as jewel-y as watches.
I think they're worth it for the health functions alone, I.e. a very reliable heart rate and pressure monitor, which can double as a sleep monitor too. And it has the most pleasant and effective alarm, as it taps your wrist which wakes you instantly without raping your ears with an alarm tone at full blast.
Everything else (apps, etc.) is icing on the cake. For me the most useful "apps" is playback control for music, and maps when I'm trying to walk to an address, so that I don't have to check my phone at every intersection. Also uber, and remote control for your phone's camera.
I think it's affordable for what it is, even when disregarding the watch function. It has very tight tolerances, I guess they could only achieve that at this price point through economies of scale.
>shitty aspect: Battery. You have to charge it everyday. Shut sucks if it's your only or main watch.
