We're having problem with pgpool. My understanding is that we get a ton of idle connections and the connections stay idle for ~300 seconds. Meanwhile, other db connection are impossible and causes the slow loading (it's basically waiting for the idle connection to die). I'll try to have idle connection last 45 seconds (or lower) as a temporary fix. We could maybe increase the number of connection that pgpool accept. For permanent fix I think we have to set the db.SetMaxIdleConnection to never retain idle connection. I may be wrong though.
