Surely HE will find a way around it?

who cares. ad blockers are so good these days google can't stop them

>Google will let publishers ASK people who use ad-blockers to either enable advertising or make a payment to view content without ads.

CLICKBAIT headline, don't give the shill views.

TL;DR they're going to offer people using their ad network the option to monetize anti-adblock technology that already exists, while also introducing their own adblocker into Chrome.

Now that I think about it, what if they're right?

Why do we hate ads in the first place? Because they are intrusive, are pushing something that we dont give a shit about down our throats.

But some of the ads are getting smarter (just like in the South park episode) - on Shillbook I see some very interesting ads and I sometimes don't even notice they're ads! Like, I've became interested in cybersecurity lately, and all of a sudden I see posts about cybersecurity classes (or whatever they're called in english) in my city. Creepy, right? Sure, but hell if they already know so much about me they could at least figure out what I want and connect me to the people who offer such services. Which is exactly what they're doing.

Wasn't that the very reasons ads were invented? Google might be doing a favor to everyone. Maybe one day we won't even need adblockers anymore.

Shoo!

>hurr durr I read headlines ONLY

read the article pajeet. They're offering an option to pay instead of see ads/use adblockers. Literally nothing is being taken away, and a new option that will be convenient for some is being added. Calm your tits.

>an article about blocking ads uses clickbait
really makes you think

now if only I could pay to not get these fuckin captcha everywhere, I would do it

literally who?

To be honest, I would be perfectly happy seeings ads, if ads didn't constantly use an entire core of my CPU making my fan spin up like crazy. As it is, the Internet has become unbearable to use without an adblocker.

we can vote here to indicate major web problems

It's just a matter of time when everyone of use are required to use state issued ID card to log in and use any internet service. Just like in China. Censorship is going to be rife and everything will be highly commercialized.

Screencap this post.

Literally the same thing theyve been doing except they offer a choice to pay. Probably possible to block just like the anti adblock scripts of today.

>get adblockers under your control
>get paid content under your control
>make paying for content mandatory
>add ads on top of it

/neo-g/ is too stupid to realize this: paid content will never replace ads. It will be a selling point during introduction, but once everyone pays for content on the Internet, ads will come back. This is capitalism after all.

Look at print. You pay $5 for newspapers and magazines, do they come without ads? Hell no, pages are littered with advertisment.

Look at Pay-TV. Their proposition was ad-free TV, now they have ads everywhere.... even super annoying split-screen ads and shit.

pi-hole that shit and move on.

If they do this, then ad blockers will add a feature to also block ad-blocker-blockers. And nowadays you can do adblocking on a router level, so it won't be as easy as not allowing certain browser extensions.

I have my mom set up with Chrome + uBlock Origin

She'll go anywhere on the internet without a second thought, will download/try to install anything if it seems worth her while.

uBO steers her clear of most forceful sites, or keeps them at bay (by throwing red flags on sus sites and such).
Chrome itself is watchful (she doesn't care about botnet).
And she doesn't have admin on her own computer.

In a sense I'm trying to distill her browsing experience as much as possible to avoid my own headache later if something breaks.
Universally blocking advertisements was an attack vector is an easy starting point

>If they do this
It already exists you fucking retard.

I don't see the problem. Why would you use anything made by Google? It's like you want your information harvested and sold.

is this even legal?

can't wait for websites made in 100% WebAssembly

>allow ads
>some shitty video/flash ad gives me Russian malware
Kill yourself.

Sheel sheeeeeeel!

Yup. Even in muh gaymez you can see this. Big AAA 60 dollar games that have microtransactions in them. It's the same trend.

This is a good thing.

This has already been a thing websites have done for years. Its called a paywall.

Fair is fair, if you can block their ads, they can block your access. You have a right to block ads but no right to acess any particular private website.

Ad blockers are the least effective they have ever been in "web 2.0" history. Not even uBlock origin can stop certain embedded ads, pop ups, or redirects.

Every now and them a successfully blocked ad or popup triggers a ghost click of the url the ad uses, forcing a redirect simply for tabbing our and back into a page.

We tried this with porn as an advanced age verification in America back in the 90s. Supreme Court struck it down as a violation of the First Amendment.

The "are you ar least 18/21" yes/no barrier that has no legal ramifications for minors who lie and say yes is litteraly the maximum restriction that the US, either state or fed, is allowed to mandate for simple access to adult content.

And adult content access has only a purely theoretical constitutional right comsidering the Miller Test still isn't technically abrogated.

>Just like in China.
South Korea doing it forever.

So google is playing the adblock angle, bloody corporate whores,
