Everywhere I look its businesses encouraging "women coding programs", and its a colossal waste of money.
>Women aren't good in IT and never will be. Most people in IT are innately interested in the field outside of just work. They spend their own money and time to develop their skills on hobbyist programs. These people are usually nerds and outcasts in high school (and college). Women, on average, aren't interested in technology.
>By throwing money at females they are effectively ignoring real talent and pushing talentless individuals in business roles who won't take extra initiative in their work.
In summary, they could be good but naturally they wish not to be and companies are making a mistake not taking this into account.
What I find amusing is that even if you got women having the same opinions as men, the ratios of above and below average intelligence are different. In the top tier of IQ you'd still be 1 woman to 250ish men. Same goes for extreme low IQ
Camden Brown
Yes, and?
Colton Wright
That's only true at the very top, though. You don't have to be a genius to work in IT. In fact, to make a broad and subjective generalization, I'd say that the majority of men I know who work in IT, while smarter than the those in non-technical fields, seem far less intelligent than the people I know in more academic fields like physics or mathematics, which actually have a larger proportion of women.
I agree that the corporate pandering is retarded, but it seems pretty reasonable to me to think that the inequality in IT is probably due more to societal factors than to some inherent difference in ability or interest.
Grayson Hughes
>You don't have to be a genius to work in IT No you don't but you have to be interested in it. Women are not. No female programmer I had contact with had even the slightest interest in programming beyond what was absolutely necessary for the job.
Noah Gutierrez
Bitching about women online isn't gonna make your penis magically any bigger buddy.
Brandon Jenkins
I agree with you that women exhibit less interest in IT, I just said that it seems reasonable to think that the lack of interest might be due to societal factors.

The fatter iq distribution bell curve is like that only around IQ 180 or so (ie iq 180 individual is very likely to be a male).
But average tech monkey is iq 120, resolving to only minor discrepancy, i think it was 45% women to 55% men in that IQ band.
No, it's not related to iq, but as OP wrote, there are huge social factors. When you have no life in your formative years, you feel like you have no control in your life, so you spend all your time trying assert control over a computer (by programming it) - and it leaves a lasting effect.
There can be other factors at play too. For example, countries with highest female programmer ratios are ones like pakistan. Women there are sidelined in "normal" jobs culturally, so they have to pursue career in abnormal ones. I suspect this is also why there were far more women in computing during the 50s to 70s before feminism and the pill changed the social dynamic to be gynocentric.
Asher Green
>women cannot be interested in computers But that's wrong, user.
James Robinson
>they could be good In very rare instances. It's a statistic outlier for a woman to be a good developer. In every STEM course I've ever been the women were at the bottom of the class and were propped up by nerds that want to have sex with them.
Blake Watson
>woman shit, different than man! >man great, different than woman! >businessmen should be men! men! men! This really is inane
Camden Cook
Nobody is saying women are shit. Just that men are almost always better. That's what happens when you genetically select one gender for attractiveness and the other for success over thousands of years.
Benjamin Cox
For any of the SJWs that dispute this, take for example Venus and Serena Williams. They have been ranked #1 for women in both singles and doubles tennis. Which gave them some grand ideas about how great they actually were, making claims they could beat anyone ranked 200 or lower in the men's division. Now, step back and think about just how big of a disparity that is in the first place. They are the best of the best in terms of women there, but they still realized they were in a completely different universe compared to the best men and knew they were at least 200 people behind them. Karsten Braasch, ranked 203 at the time, knew they were full of shit and not even as good as the top 200 men. So he got a bit drunk, played a round of golf as a warmup, and then challenged them them. Did I mention he also likes to smoke cigarettes inbetween all those activities? Anyway, he handicapped himself to make it more fun and still won 6-1 and 6-2 against them. Afterward he declared they stood no chance against any man in the top 500.
This is the same for pretty much everything else, including development. Women can be very good at what they do, but they're never going to be as good as a man that dedicates his life to whatever they're doing. They're just not genetically geared to do that. When men were out hunting animals, the ones that survived would procreate. Meanwhile women were picking berries. When men were digging in coal mines, the ones that survived would procreate. Meanwhile women were at home raising children. Historically, only the strongest and most quick witted men survived, and women didn't face any of that, which means that even fat nerds are standing on top of thousands of years of genetic bonuses. They weren't selected to be attractive, they were selected to be good at what they do. And they usually are.
Jason Jenkins
In my experience, female students tend to be more interested (and by extension better) in CS than men.
People who have been genuinely interested in the field since childhood > asians > women > men > Indians > Saudis
Asians have zero interest but are studious. Women have some interest and some study habits. Men have less of both. Indians have no idea what they're doing but get by on Stack Exchange. Saudis have no idea what they're doing but get by cheating.
Josiah Baker
Women did tend to die a lot in childbirth, though.
Jayden Scott
That's not how genetics work, at all. Men don't exclusively inherit from their father and women don't exclusively inherit from their mother. There is no dormant vault of "son genes" in every women. There are certain things men can only pass on to daughters, but those are directly tied to the x chromosome, namely mitochondrial issues.
You seem to be confusing physiological sexual dimorphism with some sort of gender based genetics voodoo.
Blake Perry
I've literally never seen a woman at the top of the class in CS.
Right, but that doesn't really select for ability aside from the survivors being better at making children.
Eli Clark
>Men don't exclusively inherit from their father and women don't exclusively inherit from their mother. XY and XX chromosomes, user. That Y chromosome has millennia of genetic selection behind it to make it gear men for specific tasks. That's why when someone gets one of those they are immediately genetically geared to be stronger than women, even if they sit on their ass all day. Women have to work incredibly hard just to get to the same baseline as men.

Dominic Collins
In every single CS related class I've ever observed the majority of women were propped up by men helping them. They do better academically because most of the time other people are guiding them through their work. Meanwhile you've got a bunch of lonely nerds that do all their work themselves. They might not score as high, but since they did their own work, they end up being more successful than the people (women) who needed other people to help them.

Partially agree. Its efforts towards encouraging women specifically is wrong. But not because they target women. It makes sense to target women as they're a demographic that's relatively easily swayed by campaigns and they're not that common in IT. Also one of the major things 'keeping' women out of education is the lack of other women in said education. So it makes perfect sense there.
Problem is that you need people who are interested to really get anywhere. The industry doesn't have issues or major expense with code monkeys. Its the demand for specialist programmers which is high. You can't get those easily by pushing people into university. There's gonna be some effect but it's not substantial.
What should be done is for companies to offer sponsorship to students. Evaluate students interest, find the ones that could help you and sponsor them in some way. Promise them a job, give them part time internship, give them wads of money for signing on with your company when they're done educating themselves. Form their curriculum.
That'd be effective. But that'd have to come from companies. Not these orgs that have idealistic goals.

I don't understand the need of getting women into tech. It's like saying "Lets get everyone who wear glasses into tech". What is the relationship between gender and tech? Literaally nothing. Rather than getting women in tech, why can't there be campaign that gets high SAT scorers into tech, or even get researchers into tech, where they will most probably benefit the industry.
When the code compiles. The gender of the author doesn't fucking matter. Who cares what gender wrote the code? As long as it's efficient and well maintained, I don't see the need to involve gender. Software development has always been a black and white thing. How it got into this state is beyond me.

Women watching the jobs because they pay well and don't require physical labor. That's all.
Businesses want them because the government are faggots that constantly push diversity hires on companies. Companies want to look progressive because it's good shit to tell stockholders.

The average woman works better than the average Sup Forumsento men because she doesn't care, she does what she is been told and gives 0 problems to the company.
Today We have the internet, frameworks & middlewares, hundreds of free libraries with everything you will ever need and high level programming languages that take care of almost all trivial problems. The level of skill you need for the averrage programming job is LOW, you are basically a trained monkey, everyone can be a programmer today.
Also hte most successful and intelligent programmers have always been normalfags that don't bother to code if they are not going to make money from it. The stereotip of the garage amateur programmer that makes it to the top out because of is vocation is totally bullshit. Those kind of people have always been a minority.
The romantic idea of the skilled 90s programmer that runs on cola and pizza and makes 100+ a year at the age 23 is dead The world was not very good in the past and it's going to become extremely shitter in the future. Also YOU AREN NOT AS SMART AS YOU THOUGHT THAT YOU ARE and women are not as stupid as you think they are.
I know it fucking sucks, but get used to it, this is the reality we all live in. We can't all be Carmack.
