Try it a few times in a VM before installing on your main system, get comfortable with how things work and once you're confident just go for it. I'm still running Windows on my desktop machine but my Thinkpad is running Arch and I find myself using it more often than my desktop because it's so much faster and more efficient. I have my arch configured to be as lightweight as possible so it boots in about 13 seconds and only uses 190MiB of RAM while idle

I don't backup. I actually don't mind losing files because I realise I didn't need them in the first place and allows me a fresh start. Although my music is on my seedbox. And all important documents I have as hard copy (ew).
