US Internet

Why is US internet so shit?

>The EU got internet way after the US, so their infrastructure is newer and therefore delivers better speed.
Bullshit. We had internet before fiber, and have replaced old infrastructure to achieve today's speeds.

>We can't do the same in the US because our country is too big
30x the size and population means 30x the subscribers which means 30x the money, i mean 90x the money, your ISPs charge you about 3x compared to EU ISPs. There's more than enough resources to expand fiber.

What's REALLY stopping the US to become first-world when it comes to internet connectivity?

Because it is run by leftist government officials instead of private citizens. Fortunately Trump is fixing that.

works fine for me

The isps have no need to improve their infrastructure since they have so little competition and still charge their customer exorbitant prices. They can pretty much do whatever they want.

dumbasses will say because it's so big.

But it's only during recent years that the US has been catching up.

>30x the size and population means 30x the subscribers which means 30x the money, i mean 90x the money, your ISPs charge you about 3x compared to EU ISPs. There's more than enough resources to expand fiber.
"fiber" doesn't help everything when circuits are still copper, all these dense areas need asics upon asics upon asics upon asics upon asics, 20 layers of redundancy, 20 ports dedicated to more throughput than a port can allow on its own

the way population is distributed is why things suck

>What's REALLY stopping the US to become first-world when it comes to internet connectivity?
first word is an alliance status

Having shit internet is a good thing. The faster your internet connection is the easier it is for governments to spy on you.

that's retarded. why would you say that?

>30x the size and population means 30x the subscribers which means 30x the money

Except everyone lives 30x further apart, in small, scattered, local population centers, farm towns, when not in a suburb or a city. So 90x the network cost.

90x the network cost should be ok though with 90x the money, no?

>the way population is distributed is why things suck
most of the population is grouped into a few cities. you could provide a fiber connection to millions just by installing fiber in the top 10 cities.

Trump has done absofuckinglutely nothing to help internet quality.

Nothing.

At the very least Leftists stopped corporate fuickwacks from fucking everyone in the ass and going turbo-overjew on everyone.

Post proof that trumps helping internet, at all so far.

I might take your shit with more then a grain of salt.

found the cuck whiteboi

bitch fiber is "installed" in the top 10 cities, that's how those distances are connected in the first place

the local consumer having "fiber speeds" is only going to make a more congested network, again from being a problem of throughput on the damn switches

a switch might be rated for 40gbps out a port but it's only able to handle about 200gbps, and then you need another switch, and that switch needs to be connected to two other switches, and when that maxes out you need another two with 4 connections going to each one, and it expands to a point where it isn't fucking viable

When Yuros say they only pay €20 for a 100/100mbit connection I cry every time, its just not fair bros. that service is like $100 for me, not even symmetrical.

Eat a dick honkey.

the FCC crawling up cable ISP asses in the past several years got my local ISP to fuck off with their Broad-Band Limitation and subpar Up/Down speeds.

Show me some good that Orange Julius looking motherfucker has done for my Internet infrastructure.

I do like that he told the Paris Accords to go get fucked tho. I'll give'em that.

>Hurr 'merica you have to reduce your coal plants and shift 3m jobs overseas, while poointheloo and wesellyourdaughters explosively evacuate their asses into the atmosphere for 13 fucking years.

Hold up son, I'm a local municipality and I won't even let you run wire without a right-of-way permit, allow me to charge you double what your network would cost for that permit.

1mbps has been deposited into your comcast account

I don't see why it matters whether 10000 switches need to be in the same place or spread out across the country.

>bitch fiber is "installed" in the top 10 cities, that's how those distances are connected in the first place
they installed it in those cities when other countries were finishing installing it throughout their entire country.

yeah that's for sure

Europe is small. Small!
America big. Bigly!
More cables needed for bigly town! More expensive! Hard do!

seems like other countries figured it out

You cant actually be this stupid

youarethisretarded.jpg

says the retard

what are you even fucking talking about
fiber isn't some kind of magical connection, it's just a fucking wire made of glass instead of copper

we've been running it for decades, it isn't cheap to run copper any notable distances, because you need to keep shoving new powered links in there
by the time you got off dial-up as a resident, you were already taking advantage of fiber links

Competition is stifled by blood sucking (((lawyers))) yet again

>le free market
>le no monopolies

arstechnica.com/business/2014/04/one-big-reason-we-lack-internet-competition-starting-an-isp-is-really-hard/

>This switch can do about 250GB/s throughput
>What does it matter if we run the entire city through just that? It's connected to a few other switches 2500 miles away!

>Hurr 'merica you have to reduce your coal plants and shift 3m jobs overseas
Those plants will be reduced when tech progresses.
What is cheaper a proud white american or a curry/chink nigger? So yeah these jobs will be shifted anyways.

>while poointheloo and wesellyourdaughters explosively evacuate their asses into the atmosphere for 13 fucking years.
I actually agree with this point.

again...
other ISP's in other countries already figured it out

By which metric, specifically, are you measuring "shit internet?"

...

europe isn't a relevant region to the internet
the united states is where anything important about the internet happens

everything is hosted in the states, everything goes through level 3

America is actually a corporate socialist country. Take a look at Walmart for example, one of the biggest companies on earth has their employees go on welfare essentially being funded by the government

Of coarse they'll shift and progress, but let that happen on OUR terms.

Not fucking passive aggressive/Proxy Warfaring nations terms.

Fuck that shit.

>everything is hosted in the states
for now.

i'm sure one day they'll figure out why they have an electrical shortage and turn it all around

>most of the US internet is copper
>which means it's max download speed is 200Mbps
>it's currently more than enough to not max out ISP switches
user is saying that somehow if everybody were to switch over to fiber, we would destroy the switches.
sure okay buddy

I find it hard to believe anybody is this retarded

and then you show up and surprise even the village idiot

...

>Why does it matter xDDDD
>Bottlenecking
>BUT WHY DOES IT MATTER RETARD OMFG WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU
good job

...

Bottlenecking
[citation needed]
we aren't bottlenecking now.
yet somehow if were were all to upgrade there would be a bottleneck.
makes perfect sense.

...

...

...

>What's REALLY stopping the US to become first-world when it comes to internet connectivity?

Ma-Bell. It's reforming like the T-1000.

Government lost it's teeth and won't break it up for consumer benefit again like they did the first time.

Hyper-capitalism is inevitable, it's only going to get worse.

...

i was paying TWC $75/month for 20Mbps down & 10Mbps up about 2 years ago.

...

>telecommunications corporate mono/oligopolies that dominate any given region; you have maybe 1-3 choices wherever you live - all priced high enough so it's barely tolerable, and quality is low enough to maintain the desired profit margin

>all superior fiber infrastructure is owned by the big communications companies, but ultimately unused because "fuck you, use the shitty cable lines instead"

>active lobbying to prevent any smaller companies from competing or using/creating any infrastructure; have to live in the middle of bumfuck nowhere to be away from Comcast/Spectrum/ATT - even then, the internet plans suck harder

The ISPs control the nation's communication lines like the fucking mafia. It's a big "take it up the ass or be left in the dark" sort of deal.

They won't upgrade the network just because Korea or elsewhere has 100x faster internet. There's no valuable profit to gain from that because there's no competition in America. When your business dominates the market for a particular service, you're naturally going to cut corners and make the whole thing barely working enough to meet minimum expectations as a functional service, and priced just tolerably high enough to back the consumer into a corner without losing them completely.

boo-hoo. I'm at $45 for 60/10 and no caps.

Korea is fucking tiny, dude. Does not compare.

Oligopolys, unfair competition, and deregulation ruined american internet. That new pajeet fcc corporate ball fondler put in place by big corporate ball fondler Trump wont fix anything

really? europe has good internet? go to italy and tell me that lol

last time i paid 45 dollars for internet was back in 2005.
TWC
must've been about 5Mbps down and 1Mbps up
just took 10 years to quaduple the speed and double the price!
fuck yeah, innovation!

I dunno, my state just got 34 million to improve rural internet. They got nothing under the Democrats.

I was paying about 65$/month for 12 Mbps just last year. I know a guy that was paying more than that for about 5 Mbps with monthly caps.

WHY ARE CELLULAR PLANS SO SHIT

Fuck Telcos

Cool anecdotal story, really convinced me.

...

>tfw live in BFE and can only get "3" mbps (never goes above 0.5).
>no competition in my area
>open up a T-Mobile line with unlimited data
>great LTE coverage
>T-Mobile bottle necks you if you go over 30 GB per month in "high congested areas"
>In BFE so I'll never be in a congested area with that line
>only other T-Mobile user in my area is some cunt that posts scat on /mlp/ (I inherit his bans when my ip address swaps on occasion)
>Literally use 300GB to 1 TB per month of data on my phone with no repercussions
>Currently seeding torrents
out jewed the jews

and whats the problem?
if our sub-par copper connections is adequate, why would a faster fiber connection be worse?

core

>They got nothing under the Democrats.

>200$ Billion Dollars
>Nothing

muniwireless.com/2006/01/31/the-200-billion-broadband-scandal-aka-wheres-the-45mb-s-i-already-paid-for/

Germany is gearing up to crack down on "wrong opinions" on the internet.

While the German opposition is saying this is a totalitarian move to curb freedom of speech online, the minister of the interior disagrees: "The point of the proposed legislation is that statements that violate the law must be deleted," Maas said. "These are not examples of freedom of speech. They're attacks on the government."

dw.com/en/german-justice-minister-defends-controversial-anti-hate-speech-legislation/a-38900261

Convince what, fuckface? I thought we were bitching about shitty internet.

Don't live out in the sticks, and don't live in really expensive cities. That's all I've got to argue.

if the average person is using 20Mbps on a 100Mbps copper line how is upgrading to a 1000Mbps fiber line going to overload the switches?

no

>lets stop corporations from influencing the internet!

>ok!

>proceeds to legislate it into the clutches of the government so that they can control it, the same government already full of corporate lackeys and lobbyists

MAYBE WE SHOULD, I DUNNO, STOP FUCKING RRYING TO LEGISLATE THE INTERNET PERIOD

or maybe we should just accept that capitalism is not suited for shared infrastructure.

>implying the corporations aren't just extensions of the government on the most important issues

In Capitalism government exists to protect those with property.

USA already is faster than most of the world.

FACT.

Most of our Cable companies already deploy DOCSIS 3.0 and are already upgrading to 3.1.

The Telcos like Verizon and ATT are deploying real 1/1 gigabit internet to many areas.

Sorry to burst your bubble.

>MARKETS CAN ONLY BE 100% REGULATED OR 100% DEREGULATED
>ANYTHING ELSE IS FUTILE

And here are by states.

And here are the shitty Yuroclap internet speeds with their greatly """"regulated"""" internet. (terrible speeds and censorship)

>The country of origin for this technology is further ahead than late adopters

>Therefore logically, we should be content to take fat dicks up the ass

>it's not even that bad
Fuck all these people. I get 100mbits in rural America for $50/month.

Forgot my image.

62€ per month for 1000/100 fiber connection. Finland

>12-15 Mbps is bad
>Price isn't a factor

I guarantee you shitslavs aren't paying anywhere near equivalent 80$ USD for 12 Mbps, even if both the Shitslav and Merifat are living out in the boonies.

Its obviously Shlumpfsterfire's fault

>Implying they are
Nah, it's the other way around, you know that thing called lobbying? They protect those with property because those with property have the resources to be "persuasive".

>shitslavs aren't paying anywhere near equivalent 80$ USD for 12 Mbps

Neither are Americans. Also Slavs and Western Yuros are probably paying $8 for a gallon of gasoline. What's your point?

These averages also include the majority of Americans living in buttfuck nowhere contributing nothing to anything and happy with their DSL line.

>80$ USD for 12 Mbps
1gbps up/down plans are less than that in America. Nice try.

Lets all agree to sort our trash!
>years pass
Hey guys, why are you enforcing me to sort my trash?!?!?!
Look at ! He's not participating!

If the reason for laziness is laziness, all we would do is sit on trees and shit, fucking burger.

100mbits cable & phone, 15 upload which is sub 5 upload most of the times

for 160 USD

I'm being sodomized. D:
I want to move to the outskirts of virginia so bad and find an area services by Verizon. SO BAD.

>geographical region totally doesn't have any play in the pricing

comcast wants 50 dollars a month from me for 15/3

>12-15 Mbps is bad
That is bad. When people were talking about how much better the speeds were I was thinking thay'd be in the hundreds of mbits.

>I represent all of America

American outback is fucked. Even if you pay 10,000$ out of pocket to get a cable laid in the ground that the goverment paid ISPs billions of dollars to do literally decades ago but they just pocketed that money, you'll still pay out the ass to use it.
And god help you if you think Satellite is even an option.

>8$ Gas

Try ~3.50 USD per US Gallon
globalpetrolprices.com/gasoline_prices/

Less than I'm paying.

Don't use Comcast. They'll either drop prices, up speeds, or sell their stake to a different company. Welcome to capitalism, also known as the purest form of direct democracy.

Cause you live in the middle of nowhere yet feel entitled to cheap and fast internet. What a cunt.

Here's what rural people living in socialist France have to use.

Then move out of your shithole you stupid fuck.

WOW
IT'S LIKE AMERICA IS ONE CITY

>That is bad.
I was paying about 60$ a month for 12/5 Mbps in a decent sized town.
More than decent. It plays games and streams video just fine. Never had problems until people wanted to stream multiple Netflix accounts at the same time in full HD.

>Don't use comcast
then I have no internet because theres no other ISP in my area.

>different company
there are no different companies
>capitalism
this isn't capitalism, no one is competing which is the entire root of what capitalism is.

>this is what people in france have to use
>slower than 91% of france
no apparently the french DONT have to use that

>ONE CITY
I live in a small town of 25,000. The biggest export is potatoes.

It just goes to show it's not a national problem, but a local one.
