What was the internet like in the early days? I mean the early early days, like 80s and early 90s? I got my first connection the late 90s.

Lots of MIDI files and animated GIFs
Too many nerds. Glad it got to the point where everyone could connect and share ideas.
Well there was no google or ebay or amazon (didn't exist till (1996/7). I got my first connection in 1997 (dial-up) and web pages loaded a hell of lot faster due to lack of heavy graphics/flash shit like they are now. God how I miss those days sometimes, just click open the page and there it is. no damn flashy shit or a million fucking popups or some streaming ad for buying some junk that you don't need.
It was way more pure. Almost none of degeneracy like anime and lgbt.
Sites were simple and easy to navigate in without trillion pop ups
way less advertising
>websites were faster
You must have been 8 years old
>few months ago
>find my old 4shared account
>check what's in it
>folders full of midi files
>porn gifs for ants
>badly drawn FFVII Tifa & Aerith hentai porn
>shitty DBZ hentai
>low res Great Teacher Onizuka and Tenchi Muyo episodes
>Linkin Park, Ramones and Offspring songs
>RPGMaker2000 games
>Tibia screenshots of me killing dragons and doing random stuff with guildmates
>nostalgia hits so hard I almost started to cry wondering what went wrong
it's like a time capsule!
I had a recording of my dead dad on google voice that I listened to once
fuck that got me depressed so I deleted it
you needed to dial into yur isp.
nobody used it they were all busy playing UMoria
No women or niggers. Very, very few minorities.
So there weren't any safe spaces. And the government wasn't all up in everyone's business.
This happens every time something cool gets invented, some bureaucratic greedy cunt has to come along and enact un-ending authority and regulation until they completely ruin and destroy it.

Public FTPs and BBS's.
I didn't think WWW was a big deal. Thought it was going to fade away into obscurity like gopher. Who cares about text when I could be downloading sexygirl07.jpg instead?
In the 90s it was gopher, email, and newsgroups, and only academia, no general public.
Not really, webpages really didn't load fast unless they were literally just basic HTML (and even then, it could take a second to load). A commercial-grade website would take a good few seconds to load up at least.
Nope.
University connection at that time myself. Everything loaded instantly.
Gopher from a prompt was all you could do to search, though... that did suck.
No.
>What was the internet like in the early days? I mean the early early days, like 80s and early 90s?
The internet was not open to the public until 1991
>confusing the internet with the web
>thinks he is qualified to correct anyone
>finally move from parents house
>recover 40gb HDD with win 98
>plug it in a pentium 4
>full of emo 200x360 pictures forum signatures and my teenager pathetic messenger logs
>a bilion LMAO GTFO STFU PWNED NOOB pre Sup Forums existence images
>destroy it with a hammer and fire after running over it with my car
>acutual social networks and smartphones was a decade yet to be made so nothing of it will ever be in the internet
>mfw
it would have been easier to just put it near your vacuum cleaner bro
That fucking deckstar drive survived like 2 decades in the bottom of a bucket full of legos, tapes, cables, magic cards and junk, a hammer was the bare minimum
university and college levels of shitposting
Speak for yourself, intelligent nerds is all I want to tali to these days.
>swallowing the bait
Anime was plentiful, it was just only among anime sites. Usually someone would cobble together their shitty uploads onto a simple page that would last for years until businesses took over.
All I have is some folders I refuse to purge that lead as far back into childhood as i can go. Then I have a photobucket account full of uploads around highschool
Its very tasty, do you have more?
No idea, I was a consolefag in those years, I used internet for the first time at my relative's house in 1996 and I got my own internet only in 2000, it was a dial up connection with username and password, installed from a CD (probably AOL), it was slow and expensive, the phone bill skyrocketed.
>mfw there's a non-zero number of people who are old enough to remember those days, and still come here.
How do you sleep at night?
You had to pay per minute you were connected till AOL came out with unlimited for a set price.
whats wrong with coming here
Everything
like a baby (poorly)
Shit, largely text based and slow.
It was great because government and businesses didn't want or understand it.
It went wrong when it got fast enough for people to milk it like a cash cow
