Hey guys, i have an i7 920 @ 3.8 ghz. Should i jump onto ryzen 1600x? I can also buy an old XEON w3680 6c/12t then OC it to like 4.2-4.5 ghz and it'll be 6 times cheaper than building new am4 platform. What do you suggeest? Oh, alsmost forgot, for games only.
How would OC'ed w3680 perform compared to smth like 1600x or 7600k in games?

1600X would squash that old xeon, dude. Faster in single and multitheaded by at least 35%.

If all you do is play games, just get a 7600K.

Yes, go ryzen, don't waste money on a dead socket.

>If all you do is play games, just get a 7600K.
get the R7 1700 if all you do is play games

Even at higher clocks than Ryzen that old Xeon still falls behind in single core performance, not to mention you don't get all the new I/O and features of a new platform.

get the 5775c if all you do is play games

Most games still can't use more than 4 cores, why 1700?

And that thing is still almost as much to buy used as a new 1600. Get the Ryzen processor OP.

Because most games can use more than 4 cores

TY, but w3680 would be around 100$ for me, while 1600x is around 250.

Have you priced a mobo yet?

Wait two years and buy a used 16 core Zen2 @5Ghz for $50. You waited 10 years to upgrade already so why not wait 2 more years for the bestt an incredibly low price?

Let your budget sense decide.

If you want to pinch your pennies hard, get the X5600 series or the W3600 series and ride it for another year. You'll probably hit 4.0-4.2GHz, unless you win the lottery and get one of the few that will hit 4.5-4.6GHz on air without going over voltage (don't count on it). They're like $30 to $50. It can't be beat as a budget upgrade.

If you have some money to throw around, a Ryzen 1600/1600X is a great step up. It'll be hand-over-fist superior, and you can get it going quickly now that the board drought is over. It'll also cost about 10 times more than the Xeon, assuming you carry over your case/psu/drives/gpu.

I wouldn't bother with the 7600K.

Thanks a lot!
I would probably save up a bit and go for 1600x + 3600 ddr4.

Where is the proof, both of you

Retards who want people to buy new hardware for old games.

WTF

1. what gpu
2. what monitor - if its not over 60 hz honestly it dosent matter

Op what is the rest of your system?

Motherboard
Psu
Cooling
Gpu
Ram

I see alot of bullshit in here, a 1366 hexa core will run games for years on stock, even better overclocked.

The reason I ask about the rest of your stuff is if you got a good motherboard/cooling and psu, you could get a e5649 for $30 and overclock it to over 4ghz+ quite easily..

Even my old x3470 quadcore @ 3.8ghz for socket 1156 can run everything I've thrown at it without a problem, about equal to your 920..

Right now I'm running a e5649 @ 4.2ghz on a r3e with 12gb ram, and I can tell you it won't struggle anytime soon.

I'll be happy to run some benchmarks if requested.. Only have a Gtx770 in there now, will throw in the 1060 6gb next weekend.

No, they can't.

Sell the 1366 mobo,it cost like 300$ on eBay

p6t deluxe
an okay air cpu cooler, cant remember the name; enough to run 920 at 3.8 with 1.3 vcore
gtx 780
6 gb ram
Playing PUBG on all ultra low fullHD, still cant get 30 minimal fps

Oh, and psu is a solid corsair 850w, providing a lot on a 12v line
Was planning to buy a second 780 gtx, if i would get 6 core xeon

In the region I live, its not, sadly

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM:

OS: 64-bit Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10
Processor: Intel Core i3-4340 / AMD FX-6300
Memory: 6 GB RAM
Graphics: nVidia GeForce GTX 660 2GB / AMD Radeon HD 7850 2GB
DirectX: Version 11
Network: Broadband Internet connection
Storage: 30 GB available space

You may be on the edge on ram, not sure. How much of your ram does it use playing the game? And cpu load?

Have you updated to the latest gpu drivers? That game is pretty new as far as I see.

Also, what series psu model (AX, HX, RM, TX, CX, CS?) exactly and how old?

HX series, about 4-5 years
Game's bad optimized, so very cpu dependent

I whould be perfect testing it out for you with my specs , but I dont have the game sadly.

Ditto, I'd love to test for you but unless there's a demo/trial of it I can't take a swing.

This man speaks the truth, too bad they never came out in numbers and jewtlel charged a arm and leg for it
