I use macOS, which is the best of BSD and UNIX with a great DE ontop of it.
Linux has better scheduling for handling user interruptions which is better for UI and Desktop.
no netflix
Windows 10 is better.
Not really.
Actual support for my hardware.
Run whatever you want, as long as it isn't m$.
macOS is a completely different system which has some stolen code from FreeBSD.
Because OpenBSD is better and more comfy on the desktop.
A typical FreeBSD developer uses MAC and runs OS X. A typical OpenBSD developer eats his own soup.
Not as user friendly as a lot of Linux distros. I already waste enough time trying to figure linux out.

Protools
why would i use freebsd when gnu linux just works?
comfy, botnet, CIA nigger, meme, Ryzen, Vega
Prove it
I ran it in a VM once.
Because I use Windows Vista.
I don't want to read all the documentation
GNU and Tux are cuter than bestie :3
Openbsd is better

Oh, I forgot docker.
And systemd.

at work I do tho
I would like my hardware to be supported
not to mention systemd

Puffy is cuter than both

i do op!
i just wish openbsd had jails and zfs

Less software
Because it somehow manages to be shitter than lolcucks
what software do you need that it doesn't have?
means jack shit when userspace devs don't use it correctly

You can watch anime on almost literally any device manufactured after the year 2000.
dishwasher anime when
But can you run FreeBSD on it?
Honestly? I can't imagine it's that far off.
In theory, yes. There aren't going to be easy to download and use ISOs for you though.
Because CentOS is better
I prefer license ecosystem that actually promotes freedom
> In theory, yes.
Nah, look at the list and compare it to en.wikipedia.org
Because OpenBSD is the best *bsd.
None of the potential benefits make enough of a difference to me to be worth the extra work.
...
My hardware was made in the last 5 years.
I thought this whole Internet of Things bs was mostly products that relied on the ARM Architecture though? It doesn't matter how many architectures Linux or FreeBSD support, it matters the percent of devices the ones they do support cover.
(And for all I know, for FreeBSD it isn't much, but if someone wants to do all the work and explain it for me that's fine by me.)
and compare this to the amount netbsd supports...
It's still less than Linux, most of it is some extremely outdated shit like Sun2 or fucking VAX, and it looks like doesn't even support AArch64. "netbsd support a lot of platforms" is a stale meme from the late 90s.
It's more than Linux. The Wiki page is listed by machine, not by CPU type, imbecile.
I can read, m8. It's still more for Linux even if you count each machine separately (57 for NetBSD, 70+ for linux), it's more if you count supported CPU architectures, it's even more if you drop all the platforms production of which stopped before the year 2000, and it's a total disaster for NetBSD if you look for recent platforms like AArch64 (Raspberry 3 for example) and RISC-V.
I mean, what's even the point of arguing here? Platforms themselves only care about Linux for the last 15 years or so, and the NetBSD project doesn't have resources to port it to everything by itself.
i tried it, it made my laptop overheat due to poor power management.
did you try using powerd user
Throw him into the swimming pool so he can have his yearly bath.
> stolen code from FreeBSD
you can't steal code from them.
Apple uses some of their code according to the BSD license. They contribute some code back.
Actually, it is preferable to have tech companies use code that works and is well tested for years instead of writing their own shit.
tl;dr: BSD > GPL
I refuse to use something with Berkeley in its name.
retard
I'm surprised you found out how to post here
FreeBSD, NetBSD, and OpenBSD all include instructions for obtaining nonfree programs in their ports system. In addition, their kernels include nonfree firmware blobs.
Nonfree firmware programs used with Linux, the kernel, are called “blobs”, and that's how we use the term. In BSD parlance, the term “blob” means something else: a nonfree driver. OpenBSD and perhaps other BSD distributions (called “projects” by BSD developers) have the policy of not including those. That is the right policy, as regards drivers; but when the developers say these distributions “contain no blobs”, it causes a misunderstanding. They are not talking about firmware blobs.
No BSD distribution has policies against proprietary binary-only firmware that might be loaded even by free drivers.
No drivers.
No LUKs
No LVM
We release our software in ways that are maximally free. We remove all restrictions on use and distribution, but leave a requirement to be known as the authors. We follow a pattern of free source code distribution that started in the mid-1980's in Berkeley, from before Richard Stallman had any powerful influence which he could use so falsely.
We have a development sub-tree called "ports". Our "ports" tree builds software that is 'found on the net' into packages that OpenBSD users can use more easily. A scaffold of Makefiles and scripts automatically fetch these pieces of software, apply patches as required by OpenBSD, and then build them into nice neat little tarballs. This is provided as a convenience for users. The ports tree is maintained by OpenBSD entirely separately from our main source tree. Some of the software which is fetched and compiled is not as free as we would like, but what can we do. All the other operating system projects make exactly the same decision, and provide these same conveniences to their users.
Richard felt that this "ports tree" of ours made OpenBSD non-free. He came to our mailing lists and lectured to us specifically, yet he said nothing to the many other vendors who do the same; many of them donate to the FSF and perhaps that has something to do with it. Meanwhile, Richard has personally made sure that all the official GNU software -- including Emacs -- compiles and runs on Windows.
That man is a false leader. He is a hypocrite. There may be some people who listen to him. But we don't listen to people who do not follow their own stupid rules.
I PREFER OS X AND OPENBSD
Ports are a poor mans Portage
Running a free program on a non-free system is a good thing though. Promoting non-free programs on a free system is bad as it polutes the freedom.
No support for my integrated graphics, had to use some shitty shit driver that made desktop usage almost okay but not quite.
No support for my nvidia optimus card either.
Because OpenBSD exists.
DragonFly.
> win10
>misuses green text
No drivers
Can't read USBs (or takes way too much effort if possible)
Tries to fork everything from Linux, e.g. docker, wine, etc
>less power efficient

>security is dubious compared to linux
>cuck license
>literally no hardware support compared to linux

>absolute torture to use on slow connections because all of it's thresholds before timing out are way too low for some reason
>screw you if you got a dedicated gpu younger than five years
s/install/install and set up to the point of having X and a DE going
Also the installer is absolute dogshit.
I've used BSD a bit and I actually really love it. Unfortunately it has limited driver support which keeps me from using it as a daily driver
The PS4 and Switch run FreeBSD.
because i'm not poor, and i use payBSD aka macOS™
He looks like a goddamn sassy negro woman
How on earth is that cute?
I might switch when redhat fubars Linux beyond repair with systemd.
As of right now I have muh debian fork with muh sysvinit so I'm good for the next few years.
Also I don't like the license, I'm a sworn stallmanite.
Guess why lol
Because I use macOS
CentOS and OpenBSD are better.
but I do
Ayyyyy it's basically the same thing but ayyyyyy
they don't fucking promote it you stupid freetard nigger
it's not like you go to openbsd.org and it tells you "HEY INSTALL ORACLE'S JDK" or some shit
>yfw you managed to get your anus ravaged not only by Apple, but also Sony and Nintendo
>yfw PS4 got cracked and the Switch is soon to follow
At least it'll be /comfy/ to install a real OS on the Switch.
1. Way less support than GNU+Linux
2. Licenced under a permissive licence.
I primarily do server programming in Go. FreeBSD currently has an ongoing kernel issue causing the runtime to panic. Once it's resolved I'll move back to FreeBSD from OpenBSD.
I have a FreeNAS server running ZFS RaidZ2.
because i have an AMD GPU
