Is there even a DE that can compete with GNOME?
Is there even a DE that can compete with GNOME?
Any of them that offer Font Settings
At being the worst?
No.
No and never.
>Is there even a DE that can compete with KDE?
fixed
Any of them that let you pick the color Black for your background
xfce or gtfo nigga
Any of them that don't require writing JavaScript to customize the appearance
I like it and use it every day, but god damn 1 GB or RAM after a clean install is way too much
My own.
Gnome is on a league of it's own when it comes to flawed design and idiotic defaults
Budgie
i3
Aqua.
Honestly, as a winfag that likes to play with linux ditros in a vm, gnome is the most clunky, uncostumisable and heavy DE i've used.
Gnome + Dash to panel is literally perfect
Beat me to it
I'm using GNOME but interested in others. Does any other DE have a similar task-switcher?
>half the shit that makes it useful doesn't come with it
literally any other DE competes with it
GNOME is the best at being horse shit
I actually like Gnome.
Init D however...
No other DE will ever be as good at being shit.
>Is there even a DE that can compete with kfce?
fixed fixed
I guess this post isn't ironic... I-Is it? I can't tell anymore
How do you remove that LOCATION icon on the topbar? It's driving me insane
XFCE
I don't understand... what is good about gnome? the lame activities tab? that wonky desktop switching window.. the fuking mac doc? I don't get it. in fact, I don't get what's NOT bad about it
this
It's sleek
Most people who hate Gnome just want their tired winXP clone desktops, people hate change
t. Gnome dev
>t. Gnome team
I don't think this is correct. that has nothing to do with the reasons for me and i assume others not liking it. Gnome is not a as easily customizable as others and feels bloated to me.. not saying it necessarily is.. just feels that way . compared to what you can do with others... looking at you xfce.. and my desktop doesnt resemble XP in the slightest
People that use gnome and kde should consider their life choices.
reconsider*
t. Gnome3 user
correct. winfags should just go back to windows. start menus are fucking gay
How did you get the window buttons on the panel?
I had XFCE installed because it just works and i was pretty busy at the time. But a few things annoyed me and XFCE didn't really respond to my bug reports.
XFCE can't middle-click taskbar items to launch a new process (windows 10-style behaviour), and the screen lock is very slow since it calls out to the session manager. Thunar doesn't have overlay icons for git/hg file statuses, xarchiver can't preview a file (like F3 in 7-zip) and crashed a lot (but xarchiver was forked and my distro carries the non-updated version, that's not xfce's fault).
Installed KDE to see if things were better.
KDE is AMAZING. There are so many cool features. Vista-style Win+Tab is there as an option, i can have my taskbar middleclick. Right click any window border > advanced > "lock this window to X desktop at Y position, prevent resize, prevent focus stealing". Overlay icons work in dolphin, previewing files works in Ark. Screen locking is actually fast since it doesn't call out to the session manager. The design is tasteful, the animations are fluid, there are literally thousands of options, i reinstated all the keybinds i was used to, shift+f4 for embedded terminals in dolphin is just Cool,
TL;DR install KDE
> Compiz
> no window decorations
Is this 2017 - 8
This tbqh
>XFCE can't middle-click taskbar items to launch a new process
Using the mouse, really? Your entire posts make it seem like you're entirely reliant on clicking through GUIs with a mouse. Just type it in terminal. I can't take your post seriously when you sound computer illiterate. DEs are not a tool to rely on, they're decoration, a crutch at best.
Cinnamon, MATE
>The design is tasteful
t. KDE dev
Breeze is pretty fucking neato desu.
>2017
>still using gtk
i dont like gnome
I would use gnome but
>systemD
I'm tempted to try KDE Plasma though and just cherrypick the essentials because gentoo
Shieeeeeeeeet you like KDE?
how the fuck did you know
kek
>All that wasted screen real state
This
Yes.
this
get out fucking reddit

I fucking wish Budgie worked for me. The panel always fucks up if I put it on the bottom.

You disgust me
install gintoo
Nope
>Xfeces
No, nothing can compete
How can anyone take Apple seriously after fucking up MBP and the iPhone?
The second GNOME transitions to qt it's game fucking over. Fuck GTK and it's bullshit incompatibility.
>settings>privacy>location services
>on a QT based DE
>not using Qupzilla
Step up senpai
thank you but still no luck :(
I really lik GNOME, except for window management. Lik why they can't adopt Windows 7-10 taskbar lik normal people. The Activities overlay is stupid and unpractical.
>Is there even a DE that can compete with Unity?
fixed fixed fixed
That looks just as horribly integrated as Firefox, it actually look worse, lmao.
Why the hell can't they just remove the fucking useless titlebar that wastes space? Specially since the browser is also written in Qt.
This.
I hate gnome so much.
Is there any reason to prefer GtK? Asking as a non-developer
RIIIIIIIIGGGHT
I can't use Firefox because of this and videos play like shit.
Those are tags, each color is a different tag.
You don't, if you want their hardware buy stuff from < 2015
Or just use a hackintosh
gnome is designed for tablets, its just too bad that the developers and the users dont realize this yet.
inb4 arguing it
look at the fucking start menu.
Now look at your phones start menu.. see a difference? didnt think so.
XFCE is semen daemon. XFCE is greatest. XFCE is 99.9%.
Yes, LXDE is the best DE.
mah nigga
Is there any DE that can compete with krunner?
this
dwm
>picrelated
>gnome is designed for tablets
it really isn't

Your tier system is fucked.
Assuming the computer has a mouse and a keyboard, you can split the roles of these input devices into the roles of what you do with the computer.
You could argue that you should just support both so the user could use what is easiest for them, but I would rather split the categories into two tasks: Tasks you are familiar with and tasks you are not familiar with.
Tasks you are familiar with is things you do frequently and you want to do as fast as possible.
Here I would prefer to have good keyboard support.
Tasks you are not familiar with is things you do so infrequent that they might change every time you do it and there might be new features you would like to know about when you use the application.
There, I would like good mouse support as you spend more time reading and exploring than you do giving input to the application.

I wish redhat would update gnome for RHEL
backport when
>I need GUI font settings, because I'm too stupid to do this in terminal
Why you even try using Linux?
dash to panel?
spbp
Could you post the filters for that Duplicates smartfolder?
Yes. macOS with Spotlight.
This, xfce master race.
>xarchiver
Use engrampa from MATE
On that note also use Atril and Eye-of-MATE
Gnome is the most modern and polished. Every other environment has screen tearing.
Explorer.exe
KDE
Those Dolphin icons are horrid and don't fit the theme you're going for.
