I use it on my desktop and laptop. To my knowledge it's safe. At the very least it hasn't gotten any of the "updates" that so much as asked you to "upgrade" to 10.

No one keeps track of updates for Windows 8.* The OS is garbage. Install 7 where you have multiple options of staying up to date and without any telemetry/gwx updates.
