CPU's has gone stagnant in clock frequency , so the only way to upgrade your CPU is to get more cores. You could argue that you don't _need_ more clock for your facebook machine I guess.
Because I edit videos every day on my PC and I don't like sitting around waiting on it to finish.

Multi-threaded games are becoming the trend and even Intel realizes that this is the case; the i7s are turning into the new mid-range processors.
Dual-cores going to be obsolete very soon. Quad cores are still viable, but their significance is waning. Hexa-cores and above are becoming the new standard.
